I’m so sorry for your loss. I too lost a son in unnatural circumstances 4 years ago. It doesn’t get easier. I’m heartbroken for this family. I’m grateful she has the courage to speak about this. It will be a long road. The driver needs to face a jury and suffer the consequences of his actions. A mile and a half? Reporting “vandalism”? MTA has had enough time. The longer it takes, the more culpable they are. So awful. 💔🥲

As a former bus driver I can't imagine how you could not see someone unless it was at night, no street lights, wearing black clothes in a storm. In a bus you are sitting up high and have good visibility ahead of you. The driver should have seen him long before he got close enough to hit him.

I’m so sorry for your loss as well. I can’t imagine the pain. I think it is different fro losing a spouse and I lost mine 15 years ago, I still grieve and believe I always will. I lost 3 pregnancies. I don’t think it’s the same.
A friend recently lost her daughter shortly after giving birth to her second child. I can’t imagine her pain. Her love now will be dedicated to the two children. 😢😢I presume and vm life will never be the same.

With all of the cameras on that bus and at least one witness, it's ridiculous this has gone unsolved. I'm glad his mother has gone public to fight them and force the information to be brought forward.

hopefully the passenger on the us will see this report & do the right thing by coming forward & assisting the police in investigating the incident. Shame on the driver for not doing the right thing & owning his mistake & being honest about what happened.

Never walk near a roadway with traffic too your back. Too many distracted drivers looking at cell phones or adjusting radio dials instead of looking ahead of their vehicles!
NINE cameras and a black box and still no info? How can you hit someone and not see them in your side mirrors and wait for a mile and a half and then say you were vandalized??? That should be a crime right there. Such a shame, especially to have to go to the news to get answers and help.

I'm so sorry for this mom's loss and for every parent who has lost a child. The pain is unimaginable.
Stop and think for a moment: there is a MTA bus involved in a fatal incident, and there is no official response aside from a boilerplate statement from an PR hack after more than six weeks after it happened??
You'd think there'd be a coordinated investigation by the local PD and/or the LASD. After all, this is a public agency, not some civilian driver. There is a protocol that a MTA operator employee has to follow in a case like this. The sole passenger on the bus should have had their personal information given to a law enforcement agency that should have been called to the scene.
This report throws up more questions than it answers.
Agreed, this has 'very strange' written all over it.
And notice the wording in regards to the police... they said they're working with their "partners" in law enforcement. That, and the lack of action by the police at this point speaks volumes. They are protecting this agency and bus driver. It's in their own interest to do so.

Dad loved Bonanza. This would have made him so sad. "Little Joe's" grandson killed by bus. Driver claims sabotage. Any bicyclist in that lane would have been killed too.

Drivers of all vehicles keep growing more aggressive and carelessly dangerous to get from point A to point B. Being kind and courteous on the road is lost in this era. Huge condolences to this mother. Celebrity tie is not necessary to showcase. A mother losing her son from a dangerous driver is the problem.

There is an inverse. Fair and kind is moving over for faster traffic who have a right to pass. Trans depts across the nation encourage passing to ensure optimal good traffic flow.
I see people out there offended at the "crazy drivers!" who are merely passing.
I saw a video of a Canadian vanlifer who Oh so subtly passive aggressively veered left TWICE as 2 separate vehicles safely passed him. Called them "crazy drivers in a hurry!" Soap boxed all about it as he felt everyone should he at his wavelength and stay behind him. Slow drivers who prevent passing have control issues and it causes anxiety in others just trying to go about their day in a reasonable and safe wavelength that just happens NOT to be the obstructing slow driver's wavelength.
Be kind. Move right for faster traffic. I do it. I'm not in the business of controlling people and creating a powder keg behind me, innocent lives back there.
I'm tired of driving at a nice peaceful pace and cars come up from behind and a nearby car won't let them pass and now we're ALL jumbled up together. It's dangerous. Stop that..

The roads are made for vehicles. There was plenty of room beside the road for pedestrians. Why are so many people walking and jogging in traffic, when they can walk safely anywhere else?

Its not uncommon in PV. Many roads don't have a sidewalk and cliffs down to the ocean r on the other side. Many people jog and hike this area.

It is so confusing, it sounds like the bus driver hit him and planned on leaving him like a stray dog that had been hit. Then as an afterthought reported vandalism as a cover from the damage done. What people do when they think no one is watching shows their true nature.

Bike lanes aren’t safe and they really shouldn’t exist. Bike lanes and walking lanes should be away from the road so vehicles can’t strike them. But the fact that the bus driver lied and said the bus was “vandalized” when they killed a person should be considered criminal. They left the scene of the accident which should be considered criminal. The fact they haven’t turned over the black box says to me maybe this driver intentionally swerved into that lane to hit him on purpose…they obviously don’t want the footage seen.
Yes, it's that mile or so after contact was made I have the problem with. You hit a bird, cow, deer, train, car, pedestrian, what ever, you immediately stop and figure out what it was you just hit. Both the young man and the bus should not have been in the bike lane. But I support the woman, her father and her fathers grandson, in this case. She is suffering and that's difficult to watch a mother who just lost her child. And nobody seems to want to help her. Sad.

@@LCx829 - By the looks of that lane, you could not pay me enough money to walk in it and especially at night. The bus driver may have thought someone threw a rock at his bus and that is why he pulled over so far down the road.

I walk against any roadside traffic. But that's just me. I cant trust what I cant see or react to. The bus driver should've been charged with involuntary manslaughter. How does one not see pedestrian on shoulder?
It depends on time of day and weather conditions if the driver didn't see him. It's been times I almost hit someone because the sun was so bright and hurt my eyes. Sometimes you may turn a corner or loop and boom there is the sun in your eyes. Such a tragic way to go out. May he rest in eternal peace 🕊️ and may God give his mother comfort 💞

Why would this driver lie ? That’s very dumb. I’m a driver for OCTA and there are cameras directly in the front window that look out so it definitely caught it and it doesn’t take this long to review just the one video. Driver was wrong for this. MTA know they in big trouble. Major lawsuit. And the passenger was probably a transient or friend/family riding with driver on that route. Probably why they can’t find the witness/person. That’s wrong. RIH young man. I adored his grandpa
At least as far as this report indicates. We didn't have an actual official report about the length traveled after the impact or the driver's statement about vandalism. We have those words from the grieving mother.
I just have to play devil's advocate here and wonder how much of that story is played up. Yes, there should be a official statement by now but someone walking alongside a road and that area hit by traffic would not be that uncommon.

Thats how the roads r in PV. There r many roads with no sidewalks. There r curves in the road and sheer drops on the other side. The bus driver was probably hugging the side of the road too much on a curve and encroaching on the bike lane. Very sad, God bless that yong man's family. May he rest in peace 💔

Tragic bus accident? What a way to word it. I know bus drivers such as Greyhound are on their cell phones while driving.
Here in Orlando, Lynx bus drivers get in big trouble if they're on their phones or even seeing holding a phone. They have a camera pointed directly at the driver's seat.

This is a direct result of the lack of proper pedestrian infrastructure on that road. If it has a bus with bus stops then there should be wide enough sidewalks for people to be able to walk comfortably. You can see it the video there isn't even 2 or 3 feet of dirt on the curb, no wonder he was walking in the bike lane. . . .
Maybe there aren't any bus stops on that particular section of the road.

@@flipmode7 here in LA there are bus stops every 2 or 3 blocks and sidewalks of course but this happened next to the shore where there are long sections without any houses or businesses.

I live in the area. There r many many streets withouth sidewalks all over PV. There r sheer drops to the ocean on the other side of this 2 lane road. The bus driver was probably encroaching on the bike lane to ease the tight curve of the road. Very sad. Condolences.
