Good guide. The problem with Greatsword is it depends on the algorithm of the monsters attacks on higher grades that makes it hard for players that use GS as their main. Like charge attacks that take up too much of the timer or burrow attacks + charge like diablos that take too much time for a GS main to take down in the long run if its 7* onwards.
Problem with Melee users. I have a Rathlos do his running charge attack the whole battle. He was running all over the place i couldn't catch up. Timer ended, try again.
Very helpful video! I did not know about the slap at all, very interesting! (also great sound effect) Would love to try greatsword more but I find myself too impatient in practice!

Currently playing a focus build with pukei helm, Rathalos chest, Diablos gloves, Rathalos waist and jyrua boots. Looking forward to replacing Diablo gloves with black Diablos gloves. Agree with an above comment lock on isn’t necessary - you can just aim better. It’s more quality of life. With my set I get: - health boost 2 - focus 3 (will be focus 4 when more jyrua show up or focus 5/resentment 1 when i get black Diablos gloves) - weakness exploit 2 - heroics 2 - last stand 1 As a charge blade main from the mainline series I wanted a weapon with a high skill ceiling and had always looked at great sword with envy. So I’m glad I’ve been able to pick it up on mhn.
@@shawnzyplayshaving recently hit 7* with majority of my wespoks still being Ele 5.5, Lock-On definitely made the difference for me. Reliably hitting more attacks where I needed them helped me push through my Urgentd rather than infinitely restarting and "aiming" better :)
@chaunchochongyunmains5547 maybe lock on helps at the beginning but when you're very confident of the positioning, you can swap it out for even more dmg.
I'm very used to guard stance in main mh games. GS not able to enter guard stance is disappointing, but hey the tackle is intact and act well as defensive maneuver. I wonder if offensive guard work on tackle!
No, offensive guard doesn't work on tackle because tackle is not a guard. To be fair, using guard in the main game with GS is pretty bad anyways cause it reduces sharpness and you should usually try to avoid guarding with GS if possible.

On avg, you apply status buildup once in 3 hits. gs is slow but to compensate it, when you actually apply status buildup, the number is bigger. Damage ticks itself is based on % of the monster's hp. Poison is not bad.
To me. With the resenment is not available right now. I will go safe, positioning and 5 focus to hit monster with charge attack, roll and do it again, wait for opporturnity to go TCS. I do not often use tackle, it causes chip dmg and I am F2P player, so hell no I am gonna tackle through monster attacks. It also had not good frame like iai counter of LS. I tried multiple time to charge through monster roar like diablos but I can't. Fun tip: you can turn on gyro scope for GS. It will make GS hit monster more easy without lockon skill.
Nice guild, thanks. I'm currently struggling to defeat 2 Purple star Diablo in Main story line. Had a grade 6 Paralysis Hammer but I'm unsure to upgrade it further. Mainly I do not have enough time to kill it off. Do you have any advise for weapon types that can work?
Yeah you definitely need to upgrade it further. Only elemental weapons can pull off hunts being lower grade than the monster. Para poison and raw needs to be upgraded further.
Dear Professor I have a non-related question about bow. I am HR 70 in 8 star monster and am having trouble with Pukei G7-5 Poison 3, Focus 4. I can only handle a few 8 star types. I wanted to craft Tobi lightning bow for the Pink Rathian event, and was also thinking of transitioning to Diablos bow too. Is it recommended to go Diablos or try to get Pukei bow to G8?
*My Diablos bow is only G6-1 now, while Tobi is G7-2 (aiming to get it to G7-5) I got the hunch that Diablos is the way to go for end game, just base on intuition
I would suggest not to invest in diablos at this point. 8* onwards is really the point where raw dmg drops off and elemental bows start to really shine. If you really want to, I rather you just upgrade your poison bow a little more while starting to pivot to elements. For starters, perhaps you could go with fire. Rathalos Bow is really good if you have a full fire build. You don't even need to upgrade ur bow much for 8*.

How do you move your character forward nearer to the monster without releasing the hold power stored? Or is it I have to move the character near to the monster before I hold and store power?
For GS - you cant do it in main game. You also cant do it in mhn. For Hammer - While you get to move around while charging in main game, you can only move towards the monster while charging in MHN. In MHN, it is automatic. Once you start charging, your hunter will move towards the monster.

@@ixactan69 dmg wise, GS should deal higher dmg but it may be alot harder to really land the strong attack(true charge slash). The weapons are balanced. With GS, you need good skills to land hits. When you actually land hits, you get rewarded for it with good dmg. It is easier to land hits with hammer (compared to GS) hence the dmg is slightly lower.
Is it a mistake to Upgrade the Jagras GS to 5 rather than go for Jyuratodos GS? My build is a mess because I keep getting different kinds of armor pieces and weapons because I enjoy all the melee weapons a lot. still at HR 42
It's easier to hunt for jagras instead of jyura. So while the dmg is lesser, at least you get a decent weapon capable of clearing some monsters now. Also as long as you're having fun now, everything else is secondary.
I think either long sword or bow. Both can really keep the dmg ongoing. Bow can slide around while long sword can counter the monsters attack. Gs and hammer are strong but I would consider them advanced level since you'll need some knowledge of the monster's movements.

If timer is the issue, perhaps charge less or upgrade weapon. If hunt fail because you kept getting hit, the only way is to keep going and you'll learn the monster's moveset..
My gs at rarity3 level max. I think i always use charge attack too much for more damage but instead getting hit also. So is it worth to change my main since I love gs but due to lack of damage and survivability during hunt, I miss a lot of monster that I really want to take them down..@@shawnzyplays
@neotdoongZ if you like gs, stick with it! Do less charged attacks and only do so when you have a good window. Also, did you use the shoulder tackle move? It's great!
spirit gauge that is affected by focus is only for long sword. its that sword icon gauge below the hp. (check out my LS video :P ) Concentration affects the speed in which you build up your special attack (that big yellow button).
just my own experience. It is weird that i can use gyro for bow but gyro for melee makes me wanna puke. I've heard similar statements from melee players who started using gyro on bow lol.

With the GS, I feel fine without lock on, I wish I could say the same about the Hammer, but the kulu tax lives on!
Guess we could switch that out for other stuff. I thought lock on will be good, especially when using special attack

I think it largely depends on your playstyle. If you prefer to go with charged attacks, then focus would be better.

Slugger affects the stun dmg. In the case of gs, only the shoulder tackle(to monster's head) deal stun dmg

Question: Do you think the equipment skill Guard works for the Tackle? Or is it only for S&S?
Only for sns and other future weapons with shield (lance, gunlance, charged blade).

Go near the monster, tap on the button at the top right corner to turn on gyro. Then physically turn 180deg

Resentment for status/raw great sword. If youre using elemental then use elemental armour set
