- Mina's vocal range during her peak (1960-1969), in these years Mina was for sure one of the TOP 5 greatest vocalists. She could easily create a very light girly sound, like a lyric soprano, or embody so much weight and body that she would sound like a much heavier type of soprano, she had an almost transmorphic voice. Also her extreme versatility would allow her to sound completely different depending on the genres she was singing, for example, when singing jazz she would have that Ella-like sound and when singing rock she would have that gritty Joplin-like sound. Technically she could do pratically whatever she wanted, she had great dynamics and could sing in any volume she wanted even singing mezzo-piano or piano 'belts' without switching to M2 or straining, I can only think of Barbra Streisand, Kate Smith, Sandy Patti and Marilyn Maye, sopranos who were also able execute this feat, only a few others could. Her low register is fantastic for a soprano, being extremely consistent down to F3 (consistency below has increased over the years) and even being able to project this note. Her head voice volume also is huge, she could easily sing fortissimo with it. Her agility is good, but more on the ornamental side, most of her showcases of agility are through portamenti, though she has good staccato. Her legato and breath support speak for themselves. The applicable links to most of the performances I researched in case you wanna make your own study on her LIVE vocals will be left in a pinned comment.

The greatest singer in the world.
Fantastic
Ciao bellissimo video, dovresti ascoltare il brano di Mina Non ho.parlato mai del 1971 fa delle note molto basse, ciao e grazie
Never heard of her before (I’m just not so familiar with Italian singers) but she seems like a strong vocalist!
Just to get the idea who she is

Hey, thanks for your work! I recently found out your channel and I started watching your videos little by little 😄
I'm glad you appreciate so much Mina. Like her, I'm Italian. She was really a force vocally in the 1960s. Later, from the '80s she has experimented more with mixed voice and lower register, reaching 2nd octave notes in chest register and vocal fry (M0).
Didn't she perform live "Champagne Twist", where she hit a G6 and "La banda" with C6s in head voice? 🙂
@@jennyrebecca4daysold Yeah, I know what you mean regarding her voice qualities 😃
There are some hypothesis about her withdrawal, such as body change, public fear related to inability to replicate the young vocals. I also think of competitiveness/rivalry between singers: she could have lost the reputation of best italian singer, after the new upcoming singers debut at that time.
One of my faves is Annalisa (singer-songwriter both lyrics and music, mainly in collaboration), who has often been compared to Mina. She has covered many of her songs and has some Mina vocal features. She received a long vocal training from a jazz singer and pianist since her youth and learnt to play some musical instruments. She can sing a lot of different genres, now into the elettropop and dance music, for years was underrated.
Annalisa compared to Mina?😂
@@orliolli I'm not sure that Annalisa can be put near Mina.
In Italy we're still waiting for someone who can replicate Mina's vocal achievements but it's very unlikely to happen. At least in the near future.
@@marklanders6833 You're totally right!👌👏🧑💻
@@francoruggiero6685 I mean, Mina's voice is a miracle. And miracles are as rare as a diamond among trillions of sand grains on a ten-mile long beach.
She's phenomenal as always. What about these performances: C6s in "Tristezza", D6s in "Cubetti di Ghiaccio" and Bb5-C6 in "Sette Uomini D'oro"
@@jennyrebecca4daysold Yes, it's head voice.
Cubetti di ghiaccio live? Where did you find that?
@KajiVocals I just realized that all the videos I mentioned with the actual footage in them are no more around. I guess I can upload some of them later
7:17
Dramatic lyric soprano.
What’s the song at 14:36? please and thx
La Verità. She officially recorded it much after this video (in 1984)
@@muziksever8367 thanks very much
Are you alive?
Yes, but I have a job right now so I can't spend too much time producing videos here anymore for now, sadly.
i mean, it's normal if you in your 20's and try to earn some money. Just asking for clarification. Like is everything okay or not.@@jennyrebecca4daysold
Yes, I'm fine, thank you for your concern, what about you?
well, it's getting better. I also trying to finish my job tapes that i have. A lot of Nilsson. And some studio works as well. But it's certaibnly getting better.@@jennyrebecca4daysold
What's her highest belt note from the chest? Is it above F5?
Belt is F5, mix Bb5, at least from what I heard
@@jennyrebecca4daysold Thank you for the answer.
Also, I've heard her go above that. If I find the material, should I post it here?
You can
@@jennyrebecca4daysold Between minute 6.48 and 6.49 (I've set the link at the exact time already) there's the third of three short sounds she makes, and it the highest of the three:

In here, the sound she makes with her voice is more in the background. So pay attention to it. It's at 0:50 and even later in the song, but I've set the link at the exact time already:

The other moment I had in mind was the end of the duet with Caterina Valente but I had forgotten it's already in your video 😂😂😂
First is a F#, and it's a belt yes, the second is probably a B5, but it's head voice. Thanks for pointing these out!
ma nn ha mai taciuto in 85 anni.....😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
