Thanks, Alex. A friend was having problems with his machine hissing way before the presssurestat shut off. I suspected the valve needed cleaning, the mushroom valve was stuck (Gen2 machine), or the spring was defective. This video was to show him how to take off the safety valve cap (nut) so he could inspect it.

Hi I am running into issues and I can not get anyone to reply to help I have a old model 83 it is loosing pressure as you blink your eye I don’t hear or see a leak anywhere but my port is always hissing and it seems to hiss rather hard. Do I try and get a new spring or what do I do I’m so lost

I'd be glad to help. Do you have a Pro (larger boiler) with a pressurestat, single switch, and factory gauge or a Euro (smaller boiler) with a dual element, double switch, and no gauge?

      From a previous response (edited):
Gen 1/2 Euros (before 1991) will hiss all the time, as they have no pressurestat and rely on the valve to regulate pressure. Just turn it off to pull a shot when it's hissing. Turn it back on before steaming.
Gen 2 Pros have pressurestats which turn off the heating element at a certain pressure. It's not normal for those to hiss all the time. If they do so, your pressurestat and/or pressurestat tube may need cleaning or replacing.

So...if you have a Gen2 Euro and want to reduce the hissing, you may need to clean the safety valve (descale) or replace the spring & ball with a new spring & Teflon mushroom. Some owners have reported that they simply stretch the spring and use the original ball, but if the spring is worn out, you will need to replace it.

My valve hisses all the time. Is it supposed to do so?

[EDITED] Depends on the generation. Gen 1/2 (before 1991) will hiss all the time, as they have no pressurestat and rely on the valve to regulate pressure. Just turn it off to pull a shot when it's hissing. Turn it back on before steaming.
Gen 2 (after 1991) and Gen 3/4 (after 2000) all have pressurestats which turn off the heating element at a certain pressure. It's not normal for those to hiss all the time. If they do so, your pressurestat and/or pressurestat tube may need cleaning or replacing.
Let me know which Generation you have.

@@BrucePappas Many thanks for the quick response. My machine luckily is from 1995, so everything should be fine according to your words. I was a little bit disappointed at first, after having changed all seals. Thank you very much, once again! P.S. Didn't know that you should turn the machine off when pulling a shot.

@@marcelf.284 - my mistake. I just edited my first response to you. Your machine DOES have a pressurestat. It should NOT be hissing after it warms up. The pstat should be shutting off your element. Here are two sources for identifying your machine:
