I turn the magnetic pincushion upside down and pass it anywhere I may have dropped pins- carpet, sewing base of my sewing machine, under my cutting table, etc. I love how the pins jump up from where they are hiding and onto the container

I have more then 60 pin cushions lol, my favorites are the small ones that are easily moved from room to room, and the bird ones with the small pincushion that has the bird bill that holds fabric like a third hand

I found this video quite charming and enlightening. Who would have thought that the subject of pincushions would be this interesting? Good jobf!

The magnetic holders that orient the pins head-out are *much* more convenient!

Yes definitely getting that one. New to me.

@@lindawhite843 I used to have a Grab-It, which was one of the first pinholders with a strong magnet. But it didn't orient the pins and they all stuck together in the center. With the improved holder, the pins stay separate and the heads hang over the edge for easy access.
I don't know how it deals with needles, because I store needles separately.

I'm really fascinated by it. Losing my sight so already using pins with large colorful heads. I have a magnet handle and rod that extends far to help collect pins. I want to sew as long as able so I buy every helpful gadget! thank you!@@sparkyheberling6115

Love my wrist pincushions. Although I have to be careful they don’t press on the emergency call button on my Apple Watch!

I recently made a pin cushion from an antique sugar bowl. So many options! I liked the magnetic one with the cover and lower compartment, really clever and useful.

There's even finger pincushions! Similar to the wrist ones, but in miniture. Great for hand sewing where you move 4 or 5 pins along as you sew (or even 1 or 2 like for EPP or appliqués). 💖🌞🌵😷

The snap band pin cushion is neat as well as the one that looks like lipstick

Thank you. Sewing over 60 years and you taught me something new. Pin cushions used to be filled with a hard ingredient to keep pins sharp. Am I that outdated? Living in Florida's humidity my pins and needles often get dull. I enjoy your videos.

The "strawberry" on a tomato pincushion was an emery bag. (Emery is an abrasive used on some kinds of sandpaper.) You stuck the needle in and spun it between your fingers to sharpen the tip of the needle. But you couldn't *store* the needle in the emery bag or it would get rusty.
Given the extra-fine fibers used today, I don't know if emery bags do a good enough job of sharpening, or if they leave the needle too rough.

Thank you so much! I remember rust but so long ago I wasn't sure. It seems when making them the inside material was suggested same. My memory isn't so good these days. lol. All our fishing hooks changed to required material to protect fish if one left in. So many new materials today. With my arthritis I like those new "clips" replacing pins when possible.💜@@sparkyheberling6115

Thanks for sharing! Can you please tell me where you found the white dish with the storage underneath? 😊

I really like the blue magnetic dish where the pins point in, but I can’t find it at the Hemline site or on Amazon. Do they still make it? Do you have the zebra code for it? Thank you.
