    Good morning, so we have been watching since your Eastwood days..been a while. I have a question about how you chose your shock location. They seem close together . Modern trucks moved them more outboard for more stability. Was your choice based on space, shock length or something? Anyway….keep doing what you do, we have enjoyed watching you change over the years

    Matt you are living the life. All those cool cars. If I had that little roadster pickup as a parts runner I'd find a away to for parts about ten times a day. Awesome rides and content.

    Hey Matt,
    Nice job on the shocks !
    you are spot on with your thinking as to doing stuff from your own mind as well as your own parts collection.
    I grew up having to do things that way and still prefer to build rather than buy on most things.
    COME ON SPRING !

    Your going to need more spring travel if your going to use it as a truck. The cross member bolts hit the rear end. If you put a reverse eye spring in it you'll get the lowered look but you'll have enough travel.

    Roadster pickup looks cool with chrome shocks.
    How did you determine the angle for the rear shocks? I'm sure it wasn't the W.A G. method.

  • @ldnwholesale8552
    @ldnwholesale8552 Před rokem +2

    Aaaaagghh, put the shocks closer to the wheels. They do bugger all that far in.
    As for flipping shocks?? Most only work one way. And you should know what end of the vehicle they were intended for. Shocks are made in different rates for diffent vehicles. A front shock for a 'normal' coil spring car is a LOT firmer than one for a leaf spring rear. Leaf springs tend to friction damp so only need a soft shock. They are driveable without shocks at all. Though I would not recomend doing so. A stiff front style shock will make the car near undriveable

  • @scottmeeker9971
    @scottmeeker9971 Před rokem +1

    shocks are not doing much at that angle, and so far from the tire....they may possibly be upside down as well...

  • @SeymourBalz
    @SeymourBalz Před rokem +1

    Shocks need to bd mounted as near straight up and down as possible!
    Percentages of its ability to dampen are lost with every degree of tilt.
    There ARE charts available !
    Yours appear to be running at a 25% loss , at that angle.
    One can compensate by using a shock with heavier valving.
    But .."shoot" for straight up.

  • @bluedog373
    @bluedog373 Před rokem +1

    Doesn't look to spiffy to me. You basically have no bump because the spring shackles hit the rear end and you have no droop because you installed the shocks at almost full extension. On top of that, I think they are too far inboard and when you mount shocks on an angle you reduce their effectiveness. The chrome looks nice...JMHO
    "With the exception of a few specialty shocks, you should never mount your shock absorbers upside down. Typical twin-tube shocks are simply not designed to function upside down for many important reasons. Attempts to do this will likely result in poor shock performance, premature failure and potential damage to your vehicle." from Gabriel....

    If I was half my age and had some, discretionary income, I would be at your door with cash in hand to buy a flathead, hot rod of yours. Why not now you ask, simple, I’m a seasoned citizen now, limited funds, plus, I would have more time to drive and enjoy a classic ride.
