Keep up the great work man I appreciate your channel and I know you will get more recognition because you always have quality content
Thanks Andy, appreciate the support :)
The Herald interior is superbly done, you really get the sense of it being an utilitarian e-war type vessel. That being said it's flight characteristics need looking at to bring it up to date.
Yeah... :(
big drake fan love the herald, very specific role and utilitarian look
I like how the different manufacturers all have their own fan base
The fly by of the Yela asteroid at the beginning of this episode is Epic !!
Game looks so good!
The way you review ships is just mesmerizing and breathtaking... I’m a new subscriber so I’ve got a lot of videos to watch! I just sit back and relax, enjoy a good cup of tea while watching one of your review videos! It’s so soothing
I'm so glad you enjoy!
Your spot on
I bought the herald as part of the invictious bundle (where you also get 120 Months of insurance). Mainly i bought it so if i ever upgrade i have 10 years insurance on my upgraded ship, but i also like the look and hope that soon data running will be possible.
It has great potential, fingers crossed for a brighter future!
got one for the first data-run gameplay, flies like a brick but looks awsome.
Really hope the gameplay works out!
these reviews are so great, just found your channel and it's by far my favourite review format I've seen so far. Not stretching anything out too much, but not skipping over anything either. Awesoeme! I can't understand how you have so few subscribers :P
Wow, thank you, and welcome :) I'm really humbled by just how quickly the channel has grown!
enjoyed viewing - format structure and your voice does work well with calm tones in reviewing of the ship.
subscribed. keep up the good work.
yes - some do prefer the 'industrial/rugged' look.
structure looks good for updating previous reviews in time as game progresses o7
Thank you!
I like the inside of this Drake ship a lot! that’s the one reason I bought it plus it’s a fast ship and with an interesting design! even though I liked the original design better.
It's certainly distinctive!
I'm actually enjoying this ship a lot. Its basically a camper van at this point with the missing data running functionality, but its fast as hell which is pretty meaningful when a lot of this game is flying from location to location. Perfect for bunker running and its got a cramped, but cozy living area.
Only fast in a straight line :D
Love the look of this ship even though it looks like it’s dropped off something bigger 😄
Haha it totally does!
It actually looks alot like the Drake Caterpillar's pilot compartment.
Once seen it cannot be unseen.
There's a lot we still don't know about how Data Running will actually work, but I could see the Herald being a good ship to have for Exploration/Science (since exports of both of those professions will likely be mostly data). Especially if you've got access to an Endeavor - a data runner could land their Herald in the landing bay (MSR is too big to fit), download science data from the data module, and then head off to a Landing Zone to sell while the Endeavor's crew continues doing their field research.
Could be really cool! Sadly I try to focus on what's currently in-game at the moment, which isn't great news for the Herald :(
I used to own a Herald, but decided that it wasn't really what I wanted. Having a function that was limited to just running data, which as you said isn't in the game yet, for me it was a waste of my financial resources that could be better used for something more functional. For data running the Mercury Star Runner will be better as it also has the huge cargo bay that you can run cargo or vehicles. The one thing the Herald was good at was it's high speed. In atmo, it is one of the fastest ships available. With some changes it can be the same in quantum speeds as well. I did like the Herald when I had it, but not what I needed. Thank you for your review of this iconic ship. Have a safe day and we will see you in the verse.
Thank you as always :)
Another great review, thanks.
Thank you!
I haven’t seen anyone say this yet but this vaguely resembles either scarlet overkill’s jet (from the minion movie) or gru’s car.
Oh no, now all I see is Gru's car
Nice review, as always. I honestly do like the ship's look a little, and it is kind of a unique offering. But I agree that until we know what data running will look like, might be best to hold off. Though if you enjoy box missions (and people legitimately do) and/or want a cheap 2 man ship, it might be worth it. It definitely is distinct, which is pretty cool.
Agreed!
2 years from this vid i just got one with the remaining store credit i had after getting a f8, I'm liking it so far to use to get around, and it's claim time is fast... I'm starting a new ccu chain to get a carrak or liberator, so I thought i would check it out
I feel like you undersold how blazing fast it is. It has the fastest afterburner speed. It's just a shame it doesn't pack a Size 2 Quantum Drive, so that it could then share the fastest Quantum Drive speed by having an XL-1. Otherwise it could be a good player taxi to quickly get into orbit and quantum out to where you need to be. Unless they change it, I guess the Mercury Star Runner is the fastest ship with a size 2 QD for now.
Fast in a straight line, once up to speed!
Another great review, Sir! Actually quite timely, as I was considering this ship for possible career diversification. The Herald comes in at a good price point, for those looking to try Electronic Warfare and Data Running. Keep up the good work!👍
Thank you once again! And yes, price point is actually somewhat compelling
Another great video and I love the backing track!
Ahh thank you - me too! The artist is Chris Zabriskie
drake did attach a cokpit to an engin block, Nothing "looks like" that is what it is.
This ship can't be out runned same as MSR to a degree.
Sort of, I'm not sure what situation that would work out well in though. In space, people tend to quantum drive around. And planetside it can definitely be outrun
yeh the features of this ship are down to the radar and Data storage, a ship like this scanning sectors of space to figure out where all the blips are to be scanned.
right now the utility is like maybe 2 years away which sucks.
it reminds me of the Dying Gull from POTC
An appropriate reference for a Drake ship too
Love your videos and the new chapters feature in CZcams.
Thank you!
Reminds me of the Firefly I love it !
It does have a bit of that feel to it!
Beautiful channel
Thank you!
GOTTA GO FAST!
Since many ships actually go around 1,200, this ship only doing 1,360 with such HUGE engines is a little weird. I'd think it'd easily do 1,800-2k, unless the e-warfare part of it makes it completely unlockable to ships trying to stop it. I own one of these but as the game develops, I'm seeing less of a need or fit for the ship into any role. But damn if I don't love the look of it!
This thing kinda looks like someone strapped the Pillar of Autumn’s rear engines to a wingless Pelican in Halo 😂
Haha so true!
This review was made 2 years ago so i wanted to ask if the Herald got any changes to its role as a data running ship.
Not yet...
@@Farrister that is pretty dissapointing
Another great video, thanks brother
Thank you!
As always, great video! I personally hate the exterior of the Harald but really like the interior. It is well thought out and I do like the ruggedness of Drake.
The Harald!
@@Farrister ? I meant of the whole Drake lineup haha!
Seems kinda weird how the herald has space for 2 crew members yet the only bathroom aboard doesn't have a door
don't like this ship one bit but leaving a comment for the YT algorithm gods :D
Awwwww lol
This is the first ship I want to earn in-game. I have plans.................... Nice review.
Thank you!
Looks kinda like the cockpit on a Drake Caterpillar
Very similar stylings - interestingly in the long term the cockpit on the Caterpillar is supposedly to double up as an escape pod
Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome :)
I would really like a video of this ship doing a full burn
Sadly it doesn't look as cool as you'd hope :(
A right hand door? Perhaps they're expecting to add mechanics of transferring passengers, by flying alongside and jumping directly from ship to ship. Perhaps there are more interesting aspects to this "Data Running," idea?
Haha an interesting concept!
This ship will be nice used with the terrapin
Oooh yeah, maybe!
easily the best interior in game. especially if you like the Expanse show. Feels very much like their ships. No fancy paneling covering up all the areas you need to access in almost every episode.
Best interior? I need to introduce you to Origin ships!!
I had the Herald as a loaner for the MSR and other than as a shuttle from point A to point B, I never used it. I love the interior but I hate the exterior. I don't mind the giant engine/tiny cockpit issue that most people bring up. My issue is the cockpit is in line with the bottom engine but not the top. It would look much better if the cockpit was higher up the body, making it more of an equilateral triangle. The wonky triangle we have now looks unbalanced and unstable.
I hadn't thought of it like that before but yes!
Honestly: if the ship doesn't suit you and your style, or you feel that you wasted your money, just exchange it for credit or upgrade from it. Even if you don't get full worth from it, it's something to minimize the damage. Worked my way to chairman's club by slowly upgrading to a Carrack. And then hating myself for it :-D
Nobody waste money on games and digital content. But in this case, if you did waste it, there are some ways to offset it.
I buy most of mine in-game :)
@@Farrister of course that is the way to go. I don't have the time right now to earn enough currency yet. BUT ever since I stopped smoking I have a bit of a steady cashpool each month. not enough to save (still would take years to by a car) but enough for spending on pleasure like star citizen. :)
@@nilsgerdes6747 congratulations on breaking the smoking addiction - that's no small feat, but much better for your finances and health!
@@Farrister Thank you very much good Sir! It was very hard but you are right: it's worth it. My addiction to starcitizen will keep me clean: no money left for tobacco :-D
I do smoke two cigars a year: new years eve and birthday.
It's a "Get in, get data, get out" kind of ship.
Except no data yet lol
@@Farrister Desperate times call for desperate (smuggling) measures.
Spaceman's gotta make a living.
What they did to the Heralds interior is what they need to do the Cutlass Blacks Interior. Toilet. Kitchen. In a tiny area. With all the wasted space on the cutlass you cant tell me they couldn't do the same there.
It's a very efficient use of space!
Your view of the Herald "in the here and now" is fair, but those of us that own one know its purpose within the game: acquire data and bug out as fast as possible. If there's one thing Drake does well, it's build a no frills ship with ludicrously sized main thrusters. I look forward to datarunning gameplay and the Herald's position to grab that game mechanic's opportunities.
Yup, it's tough for me to know what it will be like in the future, but I will happily revisit!
Who needed or wanted to know this information
great review
Thank you!
Nice review.
Thank you!
The herald is the fastest ship in the game in a straight line. Faster than all the racing models. Give it respect
Ah I tried to be balanced with that part - and the weapons it has would do well against interceptors or racers too
it literally looks like they yanked off one of the cutlass's main engines and then just scaled it up and slapped a cockpit on to it.
Haha yup!!!
I don't understand why they release a ship that does not yet have a purpose in the game.
The cynic in me thinks the answer lies in the humble dollar bill
very very very very cool and informative. never thought herald is a decent ship.
Thank you!
Very Spacious Interior Kappa
Lol so true
I can agree how the exterior looks, not beautiful for me but interesting. I really don't understand, why data modules have been placed outside? So, if you want to protect something from dangerous environment - you have to put it under a lot of defending layers...
Yeah, not sure I have an answer for that either lol
read that the idea is that you could jettison vulnerable data, so that even if the ship is captured, the data isn't
You know what would make the Herald useful? The ability to remotely hack anyone's crime stat at a satellite, or facility. If there was a mechanism to create contracts like in Eve or trade services for credits imagine how much credits you could make hacking other citizen's cs.
That would be awesome!
It looks like a racing Slug.
Hahahaha racing slug!!
People say it looks like a cockpit attached to an engine, but I’ve always thought it looked kinda like a flying rat
Oh man, now I can't unsee it
yaasss the Herald
Yassssssss!
still sad that data running doesn't have a tier 0 data running still. a simple thing similar to current cargo hauling would be nice, but instead of standard cargo units more like different sized data packet/files to transport. as for the herald, its kinda a dead ship at the moment until some sort of data running gameplay is added. the best way to slowdown is to decouple and face the other direction then use the main thruster to go full speed to stop then turn back the direction you were going. I don't see this ship as a multicrew ship as it has 1 bed(even though it has to seats), CIG makes ship crew based on beds first then if no beds workstations/seats. nice vid
Yeah I would have thought it much easier to implement than cargo!
Is there any reason you can't install a server or two in another ship to do data running?
Unknown - there are no gameplay loops for it at all at the moment
@@Farrister Thanks!
It’s definitely a creepo fedboy van 🚐
lol not heard that one before
Can two people pass each other in the corridor in that ship?
If they don't mind getting cosy!
@@Farrister 0.0 Tell me more!
@@MonteKristof lol NSFW
data running
?
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a Herald should be able to fly. It's wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The Herald, of course, flies anyway, because Drake doesn't care what humans think is impossible.
Drake: just put 2 big engines on it, it'll be fine
While this ship is super ugly imo, it also strikes me as one of the most believable ship designs. It feels like something straight out of The Expanse.
Agreed!
I love Drake, I own just about everyone of their ships. But, not this one. Just don't like it. I'll do my data running with the MSR.
Is there something about the Herald that feels different to the other Drake ships for you?
a useless ship. man i would feel bad for whoever backed this ship. like a ship like this yeah handling and weapons arent suppose to be its strengths but its not even that mucj faster than a racing ship. like if ur not blowing away the competition in straight line acceleration and top speed...whats the point. this ship should quantum anywhere in the verse multiple times at Ludacris speeds. like take the faster quantum drive and the fastest ship. this ship should be 2 or 3 times faster. give it a huge fuel tank and let it be the freaking bullet train parcel delivery ship. outrunning anyone in a straight line. like it got shit shields, weapons and handling. it should win hands down in just going from A to B and doing it faster than anything else. like wth is the point of big ass massive engines and a straight line design then??? no one is using this ship as a cargo ship, no one is taking this for fights...this ship has one job and it cant even do that at the extreme echelon.
It'll be interesting to see what data running options arrive at [undisclosed point in the future] - and how it will compare to the MSR!
Its not the most beautiful ship in the verse
Seems to be the popular opinion!
It's ugly
Some say... But yeah it ain't pretty lol
This isn't a MSR, and it looks like a screw to be honest. There's really nothing about this ship that catches my attention. Buuuut, since I'm a completionist and a collector, I might as well bight the bullet and earn the aUEC and buy it just to say I have it, I guess...
Lol 100% Star Citizen backer
