    Oh I'm so excited to start!!! This makes it even more worth it to me to learn this year 💗 also, thank you for going over something so basic yet extremely important! The silk integrity is really important for any weight bearing, even in baby slings. I honestly can't wait to wear out my first one to turn it into something to wear already 😅

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 2 lety +2

      Definitely! We're trusting the silk to hold us up and keep us safe, so it definitely needs to be maintained well and retired when it's showing signs of wear 🙂

    I know this video was from 2 years ago but i am planning on surprising my granddaughter who has been living with me for over 8 years she is a contortionist and does aerial silks in a class but i want her to be able to practice at home does the place your hanging your silks from need to be 8ft tall or higher and does it matter if the silks touch the floor because we have room for the silks its just i don't want to ruin the silks if its not meant to touch the floor she still doesn't know that i bought it for her i also worked in construction and stuff so i know how to safely attach it to the roof

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před rokem

      8 feet is quite low for silks, there would still be some things that she could practice, but unlikely to be able to do drops. For reference, where I train, the ceiling is 13.5 feet. At that height there are still some moves that cant be done, but in general and for beginners that would be a good minimum height. It doesn't matter if the silks touch the floor, for some moves you need more tail, so if the silks aren't long enough you wont be able to do the move.

    thanks a lot for the video! I am trying to find Figure 8 and unfortunately I see only smth like 128kg, which is definitely not 7 times of my weight :) Do I need to really find carabiners and figure 8 which can hold up to 7 times of my weight?

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 3 lety +1

      128kg for a figure 8 is REALLY low. Most I've seen are 30-50Kn which is approx. 3000kg-5000kg. I would definitely not use a figure 8 rated for only 128kg. This means that it will fail / break if you put more weight than that on it. I have never seen aerial hardware rated this low before.

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 3 lety +1

      (Long answer ahead haha)
      If you're just getting started, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend you do face to face classes. You need to learn the basics and all about the safety aspects of silks before you practice at home. In a class your instructor will be able to spot you and make sure you are doing everything correctly. Even if you've got someone at home who can spot you, unless they are familiar with silks you could still get yourself into trouble.
      If you are going to buy things online and try it yourself anyway, then I would recommend buying from a reputable seller, (fire toys and aerial essentials are two popular stores) rather than Amazon. If you do decide to buy from amazon, make sure you do thorough research, ask for certifications / testing records etc.
      The other places will be more expensive, but it will give you the peace of mind know that you've purchased quality products.

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 3 lety +1

      It's hard to say. You'd need to get a professional to come out and check it and have someone install the rigging to make sure it's safe. Might seem like overkill, but if the riging fails when you're inverted and you land on your head that could be devistating. If that's not possible, you can look for a small indoor rig 😊

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 2 lety

      Easiest thing to do would be to get a rig. They come in a lot of different heights and sizes and a lot of them are adjustable. For example, my rig can be set up from 1.6m to 7.6m (5-25 feet) high. Obviously with smaller, indoor rigs, you wont be able to do some of the bigger drops, but it can still be really useful for conditioning, poses, spins and learning the wraps. Hope this helps :)

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 3 lety +2

      I got my mat from Clark Rubber. It was a bit pricy, but your safety is worth it. Mine is 180x180x30cm and cost $699 at the time, plus I could pick it up (shipping on big mats is expensive).
      Whatever you decide to go with, make sure it's designed for falls from height. I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than 150x150x20. If the mat is too small it only takes a bit of sway for you to move out from above it. Hope this helps.

      Definitely need one that is designed for falls from height, to absorb impact. The mats usually come with a height rating, e.g. For falls from up to 3m. So it will depend on how high you'll be going up.

    What about ceiling height? Is there a minimum for that and does it have to be HIGH?

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 3 lety +1

      It really depends on what you want to do. For some basic conditioning and poses you could probably get away with 2.5m (8ft). My studio ceilings are only 4.2m (13.7ft), everything on my channel I've learnt at that height, although some drops are REALLY pushing it at that height (like candy cane). My rig is about 7.8m (25.5ft), I haven't learnt anything that needs more height than that yet.

      @beepbeep6500 Před 3 lety +1

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 3 lety +1

      Most ceilings are at least 8ft, once you factor in the rigging hardware, crash mat etc. that's all going to eat into your space, so I wouldn't go lower than that

    • @beepbeep6500
      @beepbeep6500 Před 3 lety +1

      @@AerialBon yeah, I wouldn't try to go lower then the minimum you said, but thanks for the advice! And about weight, does weight factor into how high or low the minimums/maximums have to be? Or am I just overthinking this whole thing?

    • @AerialBon
      @AerialBon  Před 3 lety

      Weight doesn't matter, you just need to make sure the rigging point is strong enough. another thing to consider would be how much stretch your silks have, because that will take up some space too

      While it's possible to learn through CZcams alone, I definitely recommend face to face lessons if at all possible, especially if you're just starting out. Face to face lessons allow you to get instant, direct feedback and you've got someone there to ensure you're doing the wraps correctly and safely. Once you've got some experience and general knowledge and understanding of the apparatus, it will be easier for you to learn from online tutorials.

      Most ceilings aren't designed for load bearing for aerial and it can be dangerous to do a DIY solution. That's why most people who practice aerial at home recommend using a portable rig / A-frame that has been designed specifically for that purpose 🙂
