  • Why does it make sense to use complicated acronyms, symbols and words to describe who we are as people? If we are all merely human beings, why does the LGBT-community insist on using complicated pronouns and acronyms that sets them apart? In this TedxTalk, activist and diversity trainer, Fahad Saeed, will explain why it makes sense to use inclusive language, why minority rights should concern the heterosexual majority and how words that can seem complex, can help set you free as well. Fahad Saeed is an expert on diversity and inclusion. 13 years ago he co/founded Denmarks only organization for ethnic minority LGBT/persons. In his daily life, he works as a communications consultant. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. People see categories as boxes that restrain you. I see them as pixels. Sure, you can do a human model with a few pixels... but to represent a real person, you’ll have to use a lot of them. And maybe there are boxes or categories etc... that only represent you partially. Maybe you only partly belong to the views people have of that category, and that’s okay. Those pixels help have a quick understanding of you... but no categories can ever truly replace getting to know a person, and that takes time, and work to repel prejudices. Categories, if they are numerous enough and leave room for self definition, help make a more rounded human being than neglecting them altogether

As long as one human needs it, it becomes a human need. Accessible curbs on side walks are a human need. Dignity, privacy, nature and tampons are human needs. They don’t stop being needs just because everyone doesn’t need it. Only one human has to need it to fall under this umbrella. I am not trying to erase people or there uniqueness. But I worry about what happens to our societies when we arbitrarily divide ourselves. I think it’s dangerous. I also want to point out that change is hard and painful and expensive but as humans we have not shyed away from it. those ramps were brought into reality by individuals of varying identities and they are also benefiting individuals with varying identities: individuals with various mobility concerns, individuals who push stroller ... so to answer your question. Stop trying to cram LGBT down the public’s throat. If LGBT is your community that’s great. No one cares, but people are starting to resent the community as they are trying to tell the general public how we need to live our lives.

You completely missed the point of the talk. Telling us that "no one cares" is simply your way of saying that _you_ don't care, and you _wish_ nobody else cared. Nobody is trying to tell you how do live your life. But they are asking you to see them for who they are. And that really bothers you.

Aaron Rosenberg I can respect your concern but I’m not some bigot. I have friends, good friends in the LGBT community, and I’m not using that as leverage for this topic. What I don’t care about is the daily media grind to bring this as a talking point as if the average individual is out to get the LGBT community. If they were then you would have a case. I care about the fact that we all have our struggles in this world but it’s impractical to try and make our struggles everyone else’s. We are all different in various ways and we should all be entitled to be different in various ways. If someone tells you you need to respect this individual because x, y, and z, I’ll take issue with that’ll day. People need to earn respect from there piers, not force it. I care about all individual but respect need to be earned, not forced! Please don’t tell me what I care and don’t care for.

If you want to dedicate your life to an invisible deity, feel free. That's freedom of religion. Unfortunately, you believe that others must do the same thing you do, and that is not true. As an atheist, I'm still open to the existence of a deity. If only someone could produce the evidence. But any deity that requires worship-a truly diseased concept when it comes down to it-is a corrupt deity, be it imagined or real, and I would never want anything to do with it.

Is this supposed to reason your god into existence? It does no such thing. It sounds like a confused threat.
"Anyhow your allegation that I want to tie other's beliefs to my belief is invalid..."
Nonsense. You said, "We must be worshipping him alone." That's _we_ , presuming to tell others that they must follow your mythology.
"....because it is one part of my belief (as I am bound to it by Quran) that Islam mustn't be enforced and people should not be coerced to accept it."
So, you contradict yourself. By the way, you are most likely "bound to it because you were given no other option as a child.
"Moreover your self-contradiction is detected from two desires, one that you can accept the evidence of Allah, two that you don't want to accept His right to be worshipped."
These two things are not contradictory. Just because a god might exist would not mean it requires worship. If your Allah existed and demanded my worship unconditionally, I would spit in its face.
"So it is concluded that you don't want to discuss Him from true intention of accepting the concept of His presence."
That is only bad poetry. I will discuss something's properties once it has been shown to actually exist. Don't pretend that hard work has been accomplished on your behalf. It never has, despite millennia of desperate and brash assertions. Your work is cut out for you, and your baseless assertions are lazy.
