  • On October 18, 1587, the first Filipinos to come to America landed on the California coast. They were part of the crew of the galleon Nuestra Señora de Buena Esperanza. They didn't stay long, just a mere three days. They left after a hostile encounter with native American Indians, in which one Spaniard and one Filipino were killed. They were on their way to Acapulco, in Mexico, as part of the 250-year interPacific trade between Manila and Acapulco.

Thank you so much Tito Vic and to the Georgia Tech Filipino Student Association for a very inspiring tribute to our history. What an inspiration the Filipinos before us have laid for the generations after them! We are grateful and proud to be Filipinos!
