In Big Beacon, Norwich's favourite son and best broadcaster, Alan Partridge, triumphs against the odds. TWICE.
Using an innovative 'dual narrative' structure you sometimes see in films, Big Beacon tells the story of how Partridge heroically rebuilt his TV career, rising like a phoenix from the desolate wasteland of local radio to climb to the summit of Mount Primetime and regain the nationwide prominence his talent merits.
But then something quite unexpected and moving, because Big Beacon also tells the story of a selfless man, driven to restore an old lighthouse to its former glory, motivated by nothing more than respect for a quietly heroic old building that many take for granted, which some people think is a metaphor for Alan himself even though it's not really for them to say.*
Leaving his old life behind and relocating to a small coastal village in Kent, Alan battles through adversity, wins the hearts and minds of a suspicious community, and ultimately shows himself to be a quite wonderful man.
* The two strands will run in tandem, their narrative arcs mirroring each other to make the parallels between the two stories abundantly clear to the less able reader.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Alan Partridge is one of Britain's favourite and most decorated unemployed broadcasters - although he does have a podcast. Once the star and lead presenter of Mid Morning Matters on North Norfolk Digital and This Time on BBC1, he is now not those things, but is perfectly happy and comfortably off. It’s not going to happen anytime soon mate. I saw Coogan waking out of a disabled toilets at East Midlands airport one time and I, jokingly asked, when will Big Beacon be free of charge on CZcams. To be fair to him he was pretty cool about the whole thing as he was with some bird and he laughed, patted his back pocket and said “every little helps” as he walked off. It was afterwards that I realised that he’d got confused between Tesco’s and Asda’s. Either way, it was kind of funny. The bird was fit but a bit spotty.
typical 🙄
What in earth even is this comment
@@james2156 Think you mean 'on Earth' (not 'in earth').....but seriously you don't grok the point of Coogan's jest? Guess you can't be British.
Classic partridge@@james2156
Lovely stuff!!!!
This made my laugh til I cried. Footnote: not literally.
I listen to Alan Coogan every night as I go off to sleep. I always have the wierdest dreams (never wet) and wake up refreshed and ready to face the new day with vigour and "go get 'em champ" positive vibes.
.... Don't You Mean 'Steve Partridge' Old Bean 🏴 1:42
@@TS-1267 of course it's Steve Partridge. Oh how we laughed (except grandad Graham).
Ew
I saw steve coogan in my local baths, he was doing widths 😂
Nice trousers Alan....
I saw Alan once. He was standing outside a garden centre. He didn't look happy - but he had new jeans on.
I'm not paying £27.99 for an audiobook when I could just buy the hardback and read it in Alan's voice. Or in Edmonds'.
worth buying for £10, laughed my ass off.
... Spider Nugent is Back on the Cobbles So He Is....
Rhinocerine
First couple of partridge books wee excellent. The rest, like this one, are just a basic critique of politics and not a character study.
Really dropped off.
Alan Partidge writes novels?
ALAN PARTRIDGE??? Off the telly?
Hair like Scargill, always going on about Norfolk even though he lives in Suffolk, looks like a tobey jug, that Alan Partridge?
Put the whole book up for free you cheapskates

@@dobtoronto You could say me...maybe....but I suspect I don't rate on the scale Google make wrt profits.
You’re the cheapskate Neil
@@james2156 "every little helps" ;-)
I hear you, and I think about Coogan, his writing team, the publishing company - they put the work in@@neilharrison01
