Since the yarn is hanging on the bottom. You could have went in the back loops to have the bottom of the project inside verses on the outside.

I successfully crocheted this cozy! But mine doesn’t seem as sturdy as yours. Yours seems to me stiffer. It sure I’m explaining correctly. I did use acrylic yarn. Any tips would be appreciated!

Try a smaller hook or a bulkier yarn. I tend to crochet on the tight side, it's easier to manipulate your hook and yarn than your own personal guage.
