- A simple, DIY floating shelf design using $2 in parts from the hardware store. There are, of course, commercially available products that may be better but they are almost all for thicker shelves.
Now on Instagram, too! @chrisdeprisco

Love when they say $2 diy when they are using machines worth thousands lol
Word!!!
It’s worse when you NEED the tools they used..like wtf am I gonna use to cut the head off a lag bolt
@@real_mrmime9617 Your teeth.
@@real_mrmime9617 Hacksaw?
Right! I have a jigsaw, and kitchen knives, tell me how to do this with what I have! Lol!
a simple $2 floating shelf. First I take the workpiece over here to this Bridgeport Milling machine ........
How did you get your hands on a drill press for under $2?
5 finger discount...
Lmao 😂
Nice! I did a very similar thing, but I made my own brackets using flat bar and threaded rods, and for the shelf I used 2x8s.
A nice little trick to collect dust when drilling the wall is to tape an envelope to the wall by its flap, just beneath the hole.
Most, if not all of the dust will fall into the into the envelope.
Welsh Dave or just have wifey hold the vacuum cleaner while you drill like the dentist nurse
Cool idea and project!
I love your tiny pallet. : )
Nice,You could have driven in the lag bolts using its hex head and before inserting the shelf into it, could have cut of the head. Much easier and better way.
Nice system. I don't have a drill press, but I can figure a workaround. Thank you.
Amazing !! Redecorating my Guest room & this would be perfect !!! 4:52
Great Video. One of the simplest and easiest floating shelf DIY except for the drill press lol, by chance have you done a weight test. Would you say under 10Lbs or under 20 Lbs, this would help a lot.
Machinist pretends to be DIYer for a day
+Ian R Look everybody, someone called me a machinist! That's going right on the 'ol résumé! :)
oh dick look out hes gona want a raise
I tried this today. The only problem I had was driving the lag screws in straight. Any tips on that? Thanks for the help. My cats and I love the new shelves.
Hey man great video. How do you like that flexvolt miter saw? I am in the market for one right now for my garage so have been heavily considering the infamous Bosch glide given the low profile...but your setup got me to thinking I could just go mobile and not have to worry about clearance...price is similar too... 2:58
can you do a video on how to make a miniature popsicle stick pallet?
Cool man !
Cool stuff! Also, where'd the AvE blue smoke guy come from? Is it a custom design or did you find it online? I'd love to print one is all, haha.
+mistaecco It's my design. I made it a while back just for fun.
Skookum as Frig!
Does it chooch 😂
Thank you so much for this video. Precise, easy to follow, to the point. 1:31
$2 worth of hardware but you also need a drill press if you want your holes to not come busting out the faces of the wood
I Wanna See [A Simple DIY $2 Floating Shelf NO TOOLS] 🙏
"NO FREAKING WAY DID you mortgaged that house that you drilled holes into for just $2!!!???? And bought an entire lumber yard to harvest that fine plank of wood for just $2??? So... you're saying you bought the mining rights to dig up some steel, then an entire machine shop to forge it into a bolt, that you cut the tip off of for just $2!?!?!?! Hm... maybe you should think about changing the title of this video...." HAHAHA!!! Everyone getting on ya about having tools to build this shelf are cracking me up... Great video, thanks for sharing.
Where did you get a under $2 drill?
Would have been easier to just chuck the lag bolt into the drill, and run it in, then loosen the chick and remove the drill, leaving the lag bolt in place :D
ArcAiN6 +1 yea and flatten one of the sides so it won't rotate in the drill chuck
or wait to cut the head off until after you screw it in
Alfredo Ibarra this right here.
Exactly what i was thinking
get out of my mind !
nice!
Nice channel :-)
How did you make the the big IC on the shelf?
I made my DIY CNC mill into a 3D printer and printed it. There's a video about it on my channel.
Is that an Aperture Science logo?!
wow very skookum frig.
UMMM WHAT WHERE DID YOU GET THAT AvE LOGO
I need that in my life
+Cylo's Garage I made it! :P
Come off the 3d files yo!!!!
Chris DePrisco care to share the stl? (Assuming it's 3d printed?)
You may be able to just chuck the lag bolt shaft into your drill to drive it into the wall. Nice little project.
I just noticed a bunch of other people recommended it so... uh... my suggestion is to do something more clever than that if you do it again... Whatever that may be.
Cool so he got a drill press, drill, level, drill bits, stain or primer or both, a screwdriver, lag bolts, vice grips and wood for all under 2 dollars.. impressive
AND A HOUSE
And a camera
You will Need stud finder to screw into walls for strength .. thanks for video
AvE mini figure, I like it!
u can put the bolt on your drill instead of visegrip
Put the screw in the drill chuck!
+Tarjei Hofset Oh, duh! Lol. I'll have to remember that for the next ones, thanks!
Why dont use a plastic sleeve for the wall?
How it became $2? How much those machines and tools that i don't have
liked it just for the intro
Probably should rename it "A (not so) simple, DIY $2 (plus $150 drill press) floating shelf"
You could have used a power drill and put the screw in the chuck.
Def need a drill press!
What’s the thicknesses the shelf?
You should build your own shed instead. 3:21
The easiest way would be to leave the heads on, then screw them into the wall after making your level mark with a socket and ratchet, then cut off the heads...
Not a practical build for a DIY. Needing to drill into center edge is difficult if done by hand. I don’t have a drill press
jatontherun you would use a Doweling jig it will enter the hole automatically
agreed. I bought a doweling jig for this and it worked great.
Screw the bolt in then use bolt cutters easier then using a saw
Could of attached the lag bolts to the wall then cut off the heads.
Drive the lag screw in first, then cut the head off after.
ya i was going to say you should probably run the lags in then cut them off
Angle grinder in the house..
"Today we show you how to make shelves for you to put paper clips and shit"
Honestly hahaha anybody with a mind would know that he only has maybe an 1/8 of wood holding his paperclips lol
Looks like he has 1/2 of a in material and his bolt is maybe a 3/8 bolt funny
My girlfriend likes the "Sex and the City" music.
Oh and lock up nuts and run in with a socket
Hah AVE love it
*2dollars floating shelves* pulls out 499.00 driller/cutter ahahah ridiculous
HA!
Should've clamped that bolt in the drill chuck to screw it into the wall... much faster that vice grips.
Wow dude your commenters are the worst. I for one learned something from this video so thanks!
it's not a $2 diy if I gotta buy all those tools....
Viri Beltran $2 is material cost. I thought that would be common sense to people but guess not.....
Mess
In my first work I always used Woodprix plans.
Never drill in the wall could puncture a pipe. Test with drywall screw first
£2 shelf but £500 tools loool
The title is deceiving! I do not have a $1000 plus woodshop to make a $2 shelf bracket. Bad!!!!
I prefer to build with WoodPrix plans.
No No NO, never hit the WOOD DIRECTLY with something metal!!!, put a wood scrap on the wood and strike IT!!!!
just awful, but gives me some ideas.
