"It's not right discriminating against people because of radiation or whatever."
Five minutes later: "There are some freaks in Four!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bigotry is just a step away... 🥰
The irony of every second of the reaction after that statement.😆
To be fair, the show leans into it with the sinister music and camera work. They desperately want you to be suspicious of vault 4.
Little reminder: Wilzig said Vault-tec's most humane product was a cyanide pill. 💊
I loved that it tasted like Banana- meaning somewhere, someone was concerned with word-of-mouth and customer retention.
I wonder if the banana it tasted like was Gros Michel or Cavendish.
@@caffeinedelusions in our reality fake banana is based on gross michel...maybe they're the same.
@@caffeinedelusionsmore than likely the gross Michel, as the Cavendish is going extinct, and the same hypercapitalism that causes the shortcuts that causes Panama disease also afflict the world of fallout, arguably it would be even moreso in the fallout universe... and since their apocalypse happens 53 years from now, it would have had even more time decimate than the Cavendish population.
Well, it did taste like banana...
Yay episode six. Now we can finally refer to our main heroine by her true name: Goosey
golden goosey Lucy
Goosey. What about Gary?
@@immortaljanus garrrry *he said calmly*
😂
"Loosey Goosey"
It was a pun he was making.
Nobody got it.
(**mutters under breath, : "He didn't get it"**)
Cooper's movie poster of 'A Man and His Dog' has to be a nod to the 1975 film 'A Boy and His Dog'. It's about a teenager and his telepathic dog that are roaming a post apocalyptic Earth and comes across an underground vault of people.
It is, the show runners have confirmed it IIRC.
That teen was Don Johnson.
A Boy and his Dog at the End of the World. By C. A. Fletcher
@Dularr, wrong story and wrong author, it’s just A Boy and His Dog by Harlan Ellison, which is from 1969 and later adapted into a movie in 1975.
I should add that the original story by Harlan Ellison and the movie heavily influenced the original developers of Fallout.
My boi Maximus running around with a charisma of 1 but those oysters made him feel SO confident.
He also has the idiot savant perk ticked.
And somehow he has Intelligence of -25.
With some things, yeah, but elsewhere that’s not true, he was smart enough earlier to stand up to Knight Titus’ order to go further into the cave to investigate without armour.
@@joeb918 100%
I feel like he's rocking a luck build.
The difference in how people approach Maximus and The Ghoul's actions is an insightful reminder that being cool, confident and charismatic will let you be forgiven for almost anything. The most harsh ethical and moral judgements are reserved for those who vacilitate and lack confidence.
Yes - it's interesting to watch the effort people go to to justify The Ghoul's mostly unjustifiable actions.
I mean, I think there are often different expectations between heroes, anti-heroes, and villains- Maximus is set up as a hero who is failing to be what he's supposed to be, The Ghoul seems to be set up as a villain (or, at best, an anti-hero) which means the rare times he does something good, it's him exceeding what people expect from him.
Reminds me of the double standards between Omni-Man and Homelander.
Both are objectively terrible people, but they will lavish all manner of justifications for his behavior on Homelander despite him being the most self-serving bastard and rapist in that verse.
Meanwhile they will tear hard into Omni-Man when at the very least he believes/believed (I haven’t watched season 2) that he and his people have been saving the Universe one civilization at a time.
The "President" was named Sorrel Booker, a fat man wearing a white suit, with a white bowtie.
Boss Hogg, in the Dukes of Hazzard TV show, the corrupt leader of Hazzard County, a fat man wearing a white suit, with a white bowtie. BTW, the actor that played Boss Hogg was, Sorrell Booke.
Nice catch
I loved this homage. I guess that means we’re both sharp … and old.
(golf clap)
Nice one
The actor also played Goran in “Barry.”
@@jeffreydrozek-fitzwater4649 And Errol in True Detective. Phenomenal job as both, and they're wildly different characters
Here's something fun - The moment when Lucy unfurls the New California Republic flag is also when this show finally lets us hear the proper Fallout theme music in all its glory.
As much as I'd been enjoying the score and soundtrack for the show, I'd also been waiting for it the whole show and it was plenty satisfying.
For clarification; it's the theme music from the game
Not fish in the birthing tank, they had four legs like in episode 3, and the large creature you could see through the window in the lab. Also, I think the vaults are loaded with hundreds of years worth of supplies, at least the good vaults were… and remember what the purpose of Vault 4 was said to be in Cooper’s commercial.
I love the scene with the Ghoul and the "President". He took golden rule to heart there a moment owning up to destroying the super duper mart, when it was actually Lucy. He lied to protect her. (It was his fault she was in there tho) 😅
I doubt he was protecting her, he just knew he'd been caught red-handed and making excuses wasn't going to serve anything.
I just assumed he lied because they were not going to believe him anyway. They found him sleeping peacefully surrounded by a stash of drugs and the freshly dead bodies of the stash's former owners. The sheriffs didn't seem like the types to presume innocence.
Nah... nobody will believe a girl destroyed that mart. No matter what he said, his reputation proved he can tear that place.
In the games, Vaultsuits do provide a small amount of Radiation resistance, however it doesn't do much.
Hence the funny look & nod Cooper's wife gave to the other Vault-Tec guys when they did the first advertisement and Cooper was asking if they really block radiation.
Vault suits are more meant for individuality stripping and medical monitoring, the medical monitor integrates with the pip boy and gives readouts, thats what the box on the lapel is
"Welcome to Vault 4, just understand, we're not an Arby's. No free food"
"Arby's was a restaurant. They didn't give out free food."
Ha… Wrong franchise
How dare you? That quote doesn’t exist. That entire episode doesn’t exist. Ya hear me?! It doesn’t exist! And I didn’t cry like a little baby when I watched it.
Goddammit, Kevin!
@@AngeloBarovierSD - Wait.... what? I feel like I'm missing something here.
@@phydeux The comment was tongue-in-cheek, written from the point of denial, because the episode being referenced was emotionally-impactful for me.
@@phydeux I was having a bit of fun mashing up references from Fallout with a reference from The Last of Us Episode 3. Pan-post-apocalypticism.
Don't make assumptions on preconceptions... The Overseer said 'We'd prefer you not to go to level 12' He didn't forbid it. There are no locks on the door. No guards. No restrictions in the elevator...
The dog breeding and experimentation was the Enclave, not Vault-tec.
creates so many questions about Dogmeat...
So the massive thing floating in the window was the same monster axolotl creature that nearly ate Lucy, and swallowed the head.
Gulper
"....nearly ate Lucy, and swallowed the head"
That almost sounds inappropriate.
Especially when taken out of context like that.
"Not no more he don't, unless he's a coward" 😂💀
Fun fact: the phone number on the aceeen actually works… tip: don’t have your volume turned up all the way.
I love that they did that 😂
It works if you text it as well. Something about a upcoming update/announement in "x" number of weeks
The hubs and I stopped the show to call the number. We had it on speaker when it connected.
Let's just say, our dog has finally forgiven us for the resulting audio-bomb. 😅

Is this vault great?
Yes.
Is this vault horrible?
Also yes.

I quite like the decór.
"It was a huge bomb." LoL 🤣 that was great explosion of a joke. 😂
Some people just can´t stand the heat.
@@PROVOCATEURSK its either they get the joke or it just goes up in flames.
I thought it was pretty rad.
Sometimes you get the joke; othertimes the joke gets you.
The overseers' comedic career sadly bombed
Maximus is used to living in a world where he can't trust anyone. He likes Lucy, but he's keeping her at a distance because he's seen what happens when you put too much trust in someone. While he's still reserved and not letting her in all the way, the fact that he's still opening up to trust with her is a big step for him.
What? Lucy grew up believing in the best in people & trusting them. She’s just now learning to not everyone is to be trusted. Maximus knows not to trust certain ppl.
@@westfinest20 Sorry, I'm not understanding how that applies to what I'm saying about Maximus. I mean, I see how they contrast...Lucy learning to not trust everyone and Maximus learn sometimes you have to trust someone...just not sure where you're going with it outside of that.
Maximus trust ppl. He just knows not to trust certain ppl. Like the fiends. He knew it was something off about them. He trust Dane. He thought he could trust Thad with the secret. Point is he doesn’t have a hard time trusting ppl. Or else he never would’ve took the lady up on the hot shower in vault 4.
@@westfinest20 He didn't trust Dane with anything. The one time he did, he had reservation. He didn't trust Thadius for quite a while, then the minute he did it backfired on him. He also didn't trust the lady...she got him to open up. Again, he's learning to open up because of his exposure to Lucy. Just gotta strongly disagree with every point you're trying to make.
Each vault can be VERY different. A lot of them were used for horrifying human experiments. It's a staple feature of the games: coming across a vault that is abandoned, or populated by ghouls or something, then digging deeper to find out what happened.
I loved how in the FNV and FO3 whenever you found a vault and explored it you found out about its history experiments.
"Gary..."
@@immortaljanusGary?? GARY!
At least wait until episode 7 when they drop the context clue for that.
That "Galaxy news" at the start, is what you used to see in Fallout 1 and 2, the original games before Bethesda bought the franchise.
"why did they put their pip boys down"
Because what happens at flame ceremony stays at flame ceremony.
The blood thing was a little unnecessary, the ashes was freaky enough.
😂
@@immortaljanus Ash Wednesday and communion in a nutshell.
@@immortaljanus Unless they become important later on. With NOlan & Joy you never know. Does blood need to be spilled? (or words to that effect?)
Also, you have to take the Pip-boy off if you are going to remove the top part of your vault suit. Everybody participating knew that except for Lucy.
I love the development of the paranoia here. Learning the lore of Fallout leads you to distrust certain specific things and it's so enjoyable to watch folks pick up on those things/groups/people and draw a bead on what may or may not be trust worthy.
This show is such an excellent part of this world.
37:08 I always love it when you chime in on some dentistry related stuff for some reason 😛 Angie loves space shit and we're all here for it 🤘
"The Govrnmint" is a nod to the huge number of factions and groups you come across in the games (my favorite being The Republic of Dave) 😀
Ah, Dave. Nice voice, good with the ladies too... 😊
All hail Dave, son of Tom.
The pure macho cheese of The Ghoul is just so entertaining to me. It reminds me of every 80’s action star except it feels earned here.
yeah, though I would say he’s like a well acted spaghetti western character.
Great, now I've got "Macho, Macho cheese!" going in my head.
@@KevinLyda 🤣🤣🤣
It's more like a 60's action star in the same vein as John Wayne, Steve McQueen, or The Marlboro man
@@SleepySlannMore McQueen, IMO. John Wayne kinda bellowed his machismo. McQueen just had a smooth yet unquestionable swagger about him.
Goggins has a touch of both legacies. Man can chew scenery and speechify as need. But he can also respond with great and accurate violence.
The music that started, when Lucy lifted the flag, that was the music that plays at the start of Fallout 4. It plays on the menu screen, until you start the game.
It's Fallout theme as FO 3 and New Vegas also use the same theme
@@TARS20Oh boy, you're gonna start an argument. I've seen people get hilariously defensive about this one. But you're right. There are slight differences between games, but it's clearly the Fallout motif.
@@PaulGuyWhat's there to argue about? Fallout 3 and 4 have different themes with the same motif, as you've said. This is specifically from Fallout3 though. Can't believe people would argue about that.
@@fredwinIt's the internet. Put three people in front of screens and keyboards, you'll have five arguments in short order. ;)
That main music theme hinted NCR is a big deal. We will wait for season 2 to wait for follow up on NCR.
Btw, I think “Sorrell” might be an Easter Egg; the actor who played “Boss Hogg” in the 80s TV show “The Dukes of Hazzard” was an amazing character actor named Sorrell Booke - who was the quintessential rural corrupt politician.
Fun fact, the man who played dumb-as-stone Boss Hogg was fluent in multiple languages from his time as an Army Counterintelligence officer
Was not expecting that CSI edit when homeboy took off his glasses 😂
it wasn't fish they were breeding, those were gulpers(the big mouthed thing with fingers in it's mouth). since you were so curious about floor 12 once you're done with the series you could look up a video on what all the vaults were built for, this one isn't really that bad.
Not going to spoil anything, but just a note on the caviar. Properly made caviar is HEAVILY salted, to the point where it, effectively, lasts forever. Russian MRE's (military meals designed to last for literally centuries, in case you had never heard the term) have caviar in them because it wont spoil, and it's packed with protein.
Given that Vault 4 was one of their flagship vaults (ie featured in a commercial, it was a 'tester' vault, and was slated to be staffed by high end science types), it's not surprising it would be stocked with copious amounts of high end goodies, including caviar.
The bathroom bit was because surface dwellers do not have running water or toilets so they often make messesg.
And there are cultures that don't have running water or indoor plumbing. It can be a little humiliating for the people who have to be corrected about that when they're in a modern (or Western Northern hemisphere, at least) setting.
As another piece of culture shock, one time a supervisor was demonstrating to a bunch of new workers how to attach a garden hose to a wall spigot and turn it on, and when the water started flowing quite a few of the people gasped and stepped back a step or two. When he asked what had bothered them, one spoke up saying, "They have never seen a man summon water from a wall before." Now, of course he didn't 'summon' anything, the water was already there thanks to the miracle of indoor plumbing and would have been the same for everyone else, but my point is people don't react to things as they are, they react to things as they (the person observing) are. Show someone something alien to their culture and upbringing and they will try to understand it within their cultural context. So, water from a wall spigot becomes an act to magic and awe. But you have to feel empathy, they began the day knowing how the world works, and suddenly something happens that easily defies their norm and leaves them in a confusing limbo of contradictory understanding to climb out of.
Just wait until.they find out about the three shells.......
Of note; the Overseer of Vault 4 is the voice of Jerry on Rick and Morty (looooossseeeeer) 😀
Reminder about the history of Shady Sands.
In the first game, Shady Sands was the first major quest hub you encounter after leaving the vault. It is a tiny town on the verge of collapse. As you dig around, you find out that it is populated by what's left of Vault 15 (your character is from Vault 13).
In the second game, you find that the residents of Shady Sands were deeply affected by the stranger who saved them, so they founded the New California Republic, of which Shady Sands was the capital.
By the third game, the New California Republic was one of the largest, most powerful factions on the West coast, but as they got bigger, they started to develop a corruption problem. They were still arguably the least bad major faction operating on the West Coast.
Informative.😊
Great summary. Worth mentioning that some 20 or 15 years before the show takes place, the New California Republic tried to expand towards the East, heading into Nevada, but by then the corruption problem had gotten so bad it was basically consensus that they lacked the resources, manpower, and logistical capabilities for that campaign to be successful. Some may even say it was a desperation move, and what became of it is unknown.
Maybe a courier in the Divide launched some nukes, maybe not.
@@CliffSedge-nu5fv You're thinking Long 15, not Shady Sands
As a gamer and a fallout fan, it's still awesome to hear the fallout theme during the flowchart scene.
“Please, if she sees someone, only have one nose….” I laughed so hard at this. Just wait. 🐟 🐟 🐟
Newcomers = Surface Dwellers, are unlikely to have encountered a running water flush toilet.
ok hats off on the CSI miami intro after the sheriff removes his shades... I was cackling and coughing you made me laugh so hard.
"Fiddlesticks"?? Lucy is wearing off on you. I used to work in a bank property management department. We all overheard a speaker call where a bank manager was losing her shit to one of our repair reps, the sweetest, mildest, most proper young church gal you'd ever want to meet. When the call ended she emerged from her cubicle, fists clenched, teeth clenched, smoke about to come out her ears. We expected a torrent of profanity, but all she could manage was, "OH, FOR JIMMINY CRICKETS SAKE!!!!" The whole department bit our lips and returned to our cubicles to quietly laugh up our sleeves. Of course we teased her about it mercilessly, but she was a good sport about it as she saw how ludicrous it was that she hadn't "*♧₩#@&$%!!!"'ed her brains out.
Something tells me Angela is going to go to work and have a discussion with all the dentists and coworkers about teeth being used for ammo in a post apocalyptic society from watching this show. Could be a fascinating conversation. 😊
"A Man and His Dog" is an homage to the 1975 classic post apocalyptic movie, "A Boy and His Dog" with an incredibly young Don Johnson.
I nearly spat my coffee out when she used her lip balm 😂
Oh damnit, 3 times I've watched and this is the first time I've thought to question the source of that caviar. So thanks for that.
The look on your face in the thumbnail is gold 🤣❤️
"There's a lot of money in war."
Yep, war never changes.
Just watched an interview with Walton Goggins and Aaron Moten and Aaron told a story about the guy that played the doctor with the nose on his forehead.
He apparently didn't know that was happening until he got into make-up!😂
That convo of Lucy & Maximus was hilarious! 😂😅😂
It's a blast watching your mind spin up. I can't wait to see you get all the reveals.
AaaaaaaaaAaaAaaaaahh!!! Can't wait!
❤
Maximus is forever at war with himself. He loves honour and has a strong desire to be honourable. He's also had to scrap and cheat and compete to survive and to belong, and that second part will make him do whatever it thinks he has to do to maximise survival/acceptance chance.
The caviar is canned and therefore prewar I assume. Not that there's not at least one cannery in the wasteland already, making oh-so-yummy canned goods.
I cannot imagine how many times they had to practice the opening dialogue between Lucy and Maximus in this episode before they were able to keep a straight face...
The csi edit was hilarious 🤣
Hey Angela! I really enjoyed your reaction, & u got me laughing w/the list of normal body parts on people that u hoped Lucy would find on Level 12.😊 U know, they weren' t conducting an experiment w/Lucy & Maximus. I suppose it was normal human pheromones. I mean, we know they r attracted to one another. I think that Test Subjects sign has always been there. If u remember the commercial, Vault 4 was a Vault run by scientists. That clinic up top was most likely used to trap survivors on the surface after the bombs dropped so they could be test subjects. That's why there is a policy in Vault 4 to take Surface Dwellers/outsiders into the vault. Those pregnant women & other test subjects were in Cryopods. I believe Moldaver might have been in a Cryopod of her own, somewhere. That's why she's not ghoulified. Shady Sands was bombed 200yrs after the initial bombs were dropped, which is 19yrs before Lucy & Maximus' current time. Well, hope some of this stuff was helpful to ya. Until the next! 😊👍
Sometimes it's not just the characters in the show that fall into the trap...
They got me
Yep. 😆 This episode is a masterclass in using the audience's assumptions and judgements to lead them to a conclusion without directly lying about anything.
Fun Fact: The vault Tec phone number in the advert (213-25-Vault) really works. You call it and you will find a Fallout easter egg.
Disclaimer: Not for the faint of heart
"You guys seen Battlestar Galactica?" Why yes, I have...both versions and watched your reactions to the newer one. hehe. 😄 As the Fallout series goes along, it's awesome to get some answers but it also begs more questions. The theories that can derive can be wild. Really looking for your reaction to the next episode.
☺Ya got me with the CSI Miami cut... Thanks for the laugh!

The entire Fallout idea was based on a movie called "A Man And His Dog", where the lead (Don Johnson) calls his dog Dogmeat.

Loving this series, and I'm tiding myself over during the week by watching your The Expanse series, which is phenomenal, by the way.
Anyway, I don't know if you've considered this or not, but it would be really cool to get a series where you play Fallout 4 (totally different story from the show, set in Boston). I know I'd love to see it, and I bet everyone else here would too!
Shes still around probably because she was frozen ( cryo sleep) in fallout 4 the main characters vault 111 they were not told about being frozen only that they had a spot in the vault and were told their pods were decontamination pods/ showers and thats how they got frozen...but the effects of cryo sleep was the test but in the end vault tech was gonna come in see the results than put the subjects down...
You said,”ten fingers ten toes”. My brain went “ten…tacles”. 😂😂😂
The flashback with Cooper is a couple hundred years before Lucy was born. The dog breeding was more contemporary to Lucy's time and was on the surface.
Having binge watched this day 1, it's a blast watching other people's reactions as the episodes progress.
I think Vault 4 is the most "normal" and safest vault in any vaults knowing the vault lore 😂
Vault 4 reminds me of a bit from The Addams Family movie. The combination to THEIR vault (treasure vault) "two, ten, eleven. Eyes, fingers, toes" 🤣
Okay, everyone who called and texted the Vault-Tec number raise your hand! (Raises hand.)
I wonder if she'll be suitably embarrassed after watching episode 7. I doubt it, as most reactors aren't.

Lol, another one of the episodes I've been waiting for. I love Maximus's lines in this one haha.
this episode sent her loopy lol
I like the part where Angela got so nervous she ate an entire tube of lip balm
Despite how hardened the Ghoul has become I think there's still some honor in him. Since Lucy gave him the vials after she smashed up the Super Duper Mart by releasing the ferals the Ghoul took the fall for it's destruction.
Also its kind of on him for passing out - maybe he was impressed enough by Lucy he wants to spare her the extra trouble blaming her might cause her. They weren't going to let him go whatever he said I feel, so claiming credit didn't really cost him anything.
@@LoricSwift Also, its far more badass to just say "guilty as charged" instead "it wasn't me, I'm innocent" even though we know that's really what happened.
@@Krucifus ''And here is this other town I shot up too!" XD
It's his fault Lucy was in there in the first place.
@@pollyparrot9447 I think it was a test honestly. He told her she had problems here outside, and that she had best try her luck 'in there' which she did. Either she would come out alive, and prove she was strong enough to face the wasteland, or die, and be spared its horrors and whatever fate awaited a naïve vault dweller. Having your organs harvested really isn't the *worst* thing that can happen there.
And in the end he got his Vials either way.

So excited for the next 2.
Let's be real... in a post-apocalyptic world, I would 100% join a cult for the snacksssss.

Yay, more Fallout reaction! Going to be sad when it's over but, at least we have Season 2 to look forward to!
Also, I loved the explanation of the NCR in this episode and the music sting from the games when they focus on the flag.
Got so happy when I realized it was Monday and you'd have a new Fallout upload, lol. I was also brushing my teeth at the time. Coincidence, or irony? lol
In the games, most of the vaults are horrific. While I don't want to say to much, many videos exist across CZcams exploring the lore of Vault Tec and the vaults. They reach cartoon villain levels of evil.
The lip balm coming out at 28:45 was so funny!
Great episode! I think it's crazy that The Ghoul has Lucy's finger now lol. Aaaand I'm pretty sure the caviar comes from the experiments on level 12... yuck!

The cast is great but Aaron Moten does such a good job with Maximus, I can't wait to see him in more stuff. His befuddled delivery of 'What is this?' was so perfect.
He really impressed me yeah. He did some amazing work here, and I look forwards to seeing more from him in the future.
I really enjoyed his "Everyone wants to save the world, they just disagree on how" line. Quite an insightful statement coming from an "idiot savant".

14:30 The gent talking to Coop at the bar is on an extraordinary series on Hulu called Reservation Dogs. Beautifully done series: funny, heartbreaking and just great to watch ♥ Yes, I am proselytizing. It's that good . Great to do reactions to as well as watch.
For what it's worth, Hogwart's staff sent Harry into the forest for detention.
I could watch an entire season of Goggn pre-war, then again, I could watch him reading the dictionary.
"Take the sheriff's guns away" "Now feed him to the hogs" I cannot tell you how much that writing annoys me. Why stop the sheriff from killing him only to instruct them to kill the ghoul in the next sentence.
It was a bit convenient. Maybe he didn't want blood all over his white suit? I don't know, that reasoning is a bit thin.
He liked Coop, so he could have done it so Coop could get away. We never see Coop actually kill the president after all. So he could have let him go too. But who knows.
It's less about not killing Cooper and more about keeping the sherriff in control.
Don't forget to call the number from the vault-tec commercial.
