I love The Dave Clark Five. They were my favorite band as a teenager. I saw them live in NYC. All the girls were screaming so I couldn't hear them. Suddenly, they faded. I moved onto 60s rock here in the U.S. They disbanded. I stumbled across them here. I'm thrilled AND realize they were even better than I remember. They are simply a great band. Period. P.S. Mike Smith has the best voice ever!
I’m in heaven at this moment! I’m a teenager again! The Dave Clark 5 were my personal favorite over the Beatles! Don’t ask why, I just did!, they were wonderful! Mike Smith’s voice was the greatest to me.
The earliest successful bands in the 60s were really Vocal Groups. Clear Vocals, melodies and harmonies were the root of their success. The DC5 were a great vocal harmony and pop rock band with that added signature stomping beat!
I remember listening to this group when i was in junior high school and also high school and i still enjoy listening to them i have been out of school since 1969
Loved the DC5's unique sound in the 60s. All were nice looking and clean cut. Such a joyful and pounding sound. Saw them at the Cow Palace in SF. Mike Smith rocks!
This music is so nostalgic to me. They were my favorites when I was in high school. My friends and I were lucky we g o t to see them in person We lived outside new york city so we saw them on the active Ed Sullivan TV show 3 times . We also saw DC5 in concert at the music center of Fordham University in Bronx New Y o rk. They all were such happy days ❤
For decades, I have been searching for "Let's go down to the beach" or "to the beach" by DC5. Heard the song in the 60s on the way to the beach so got the lyrics wrong. Today at last per chance, I found it but it was "at the scene". SUCCESS. "Tell me more tell me more" love it.
One of few groups to conquer America as big as the Beatles did at the 1st attempt.they had a unique style, they could Knock out stomping tunes like,.."glad all over "and "bits and pieces", then could melt you with ballads like,.."Because" and "come home."carnt speak highly enough of the DC5. So sad three of them have now past away but their music will live on forever!
We played this mix for my mom as she passed away in May this year. They were always one of her favorites. She had asked my brother to play them for her a lot in the last couple years of her life. Thank you for compiling this.
Hello Shanna Anderson. Sorry about the loss of your Mom. Music does have away of helping us remember the good days of our past. Be safe and well, friend. Keep listening to DC5. :-)
That makes my heart ache. Your mom had great taste in music. I’m glad she had her spirit lifted listening to them again. May you have peace in her memory.
When the British Invasion took place , The Dave Clark Five were very close to being as popular as The Beatles and who knows , maybe they were just as popular . Fantastic Band . They said when the touring wasn't fun anymore they were quitting . Just wish they hadn't got tired so fast .
65 now remember them when i was about 7 my sisters were teens,i'd put there LP. on & grab a broom & play the thing & dance all over man i'd be sweating & my dad would yell turn that shit off, just kept moving even when music stopped, what a time!!
Dave Clark FIVE HAD great MUSIC!!! i first heard their early music via my MOM of all people!!! When she played the albums, us kid's thought, hey MOM is getting '' HIP '' with the times!!! They played some of their albums for adult pparties in our family basement rec room in the 60's!! HAPPY TIMES BACK THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A great collection of my favorite group from England while everyone else was screaming for those 'rag top' Beatles! Too bad the lead singer, Mike Smith, had to hurt himself riding his motorcycle and eventually died!
Bob, I believe Mike Smith, fell, trying to get into his villa! He forgot his keys, climbed a tall wall which surrounded his home then somehow fell off the top of this wall, hitting his head, straight on, which sadly broke his spine!(paralyzing him!) He, sadly, died in the hospital, perhaps a year after the 'fall'. In my opinion, he was the DC5!
We’re coming up to the 12th year since Mike entered Rock n Roll Heaven,so crank up your favorite DC5 music and celebrate the music he gave us🎶😊💕🎶 BTW Mike’s accident was in2003, shortly after he returned home from touring theUSA with his band.He was in hospital until Dec 2007 and was actually released .Sadly he died in the hospital 2/28/2008... so really crank up those tunes!!
Harry Payton I hope your dad has some of theDC5 records.Your grandfather wrote some great tunes as well as making that sax so important to the “sound” of the DC5.🎼🎷🎼 Thanks for checking in with us😊
I saw your Grandfather in 1965 in Fort Wayne In. The concert was a Christmas present from my parents The Dave Clark 5 sounded mean and great. your Grandfather was a heck of a sax player and composer
I've always been a big fan even though I was born 1960. I have older bothers and sisters and fell in love with the music of their generation. The DC-5 where the best, of the British Invasion.
@@bflo1000 They were until 1967. Which is a real shame because their late 60s albums are phenomenal (I always thought The Beatles were a bit overrated!) But if you want a reference, check out their album "Everybody Knows" from 1967. Great album.
I really love the music of DC 5 I grow up with the DC 5 and I really love Dave Clark drums and the band and I do appreciate your music that you guys have made and I do lissin to the music that your band do and God bless you and your hard work though the years of your music that I do enjoy a lot
The best rock group ever, I love jazz, therefore their sound was different and better because of the the tenor sax. Mike Smith was a fabulous singer and musician. The band harmonized so well together. I really miss them. I have met them three times when they came to Greenville, SC to perform. They were perfect gentlemen and adored their fans.
Maybe they will! The 2020 cd and 2 LP remaster of The Hits is already on Amazon. In the most recent Record Collector interview Dave says that "everything will be coming out over the next year or so." It includes a box set that he's been remastering at Abbey Road studio, as well as the entire catalogue and albums.Guess he's been working hard to get us a proper product!
It makes me feel better and very much younger and you know back in the day during the Vietnam War, besides the Beatles of course they are number one, but if you listen to the DC5 performances it is incredibly phenomenal.
It was weird....I remember when their stuff first appeared on CD in the early 90's (?)....I was in London at the time when I found it in a store there....I am not sure how "bigger" they would have been. I love their music but it represented a certain period. They weren't capable of competing in the world of Sgt Pepper etc, and they didn't have to.
One of a kind. I still have to hear covers of their songs. One of my favorites along with The Beatles and Buckinghams during the British invasion. Up to now , still my favorites.
I liked them better than The Beatles. They had more fans than any other English group. Unfortunately they decided (?) to pull out of the music business at the height of their fame. As a kid it seemed like they simply disappeared. Now I know.
Yeah it was shocking and a mystery especially since The Beatles also called it quits a few months before the DC5 😯 Some stories say that it just wasn’t fun for them anymore, but I also heard that the DC5 had a 10 year contract that was about to run out. That may explain why we had DC and Friends with Mike staying on to help Dave fulfill contractual obligations thru 1971 I’m sure somebody out there knows the right story....
Amazing studio work, a lot of reverb and echo. The song 'because I love you' has always given me goose bumps. Great band. Under rated today for sure.I remember well when they were huge.

Dave Clark 5 and Buckinghams two of the most under rated groups of the era.
