Ray Davies always impressed me as a singer and songwriter. I waited on his table at the restaurant I worked at in 1980 in Seattle WA. I was thrilled to have met him.
I've noticed that as the music plays I remember every note and every word from my teenage years. A.m. radio back in the day used to overplay things. I didn't mind when these were overplayed.
They had such good guitar riffs, saw them only once,in LosAngeles, don't remember what year exactly, but they were all together, and they started with L. O. L. A. Lolllla!
I've always thought the Kinks were by far the British Invasion band that held up best over time as far as never sounding dated. When "You Really Got Me" hit the airwaves I was 7 years old and immediately grabbed my Grampa's rusty stringed warped box guitar from the basement and learned the bass/vocal lines as well as possible and have played guitar ever since. I'll be 60 in a few weeks. I once heard them called "The Beatles for grown-ups" and seriously can't argue THAT one! GOD SAVE THE KINKS!!!
Effortlessly melodic rock music. Ray is one of Britain's finest pop music writers.

Very cool
It was the first lp I bought when I first came to London sixty years ago.
The whole package!! Ahead of their time and getting better with the years.
Far ahead of their time - hell, they literally defined much of what was going to come in rock!
They invented hard rock metal.
As well as several of the classic rhythmic chord progressions....
Ya and they were sort of pre punk,Ray Davies was a radical dude.
A collection of great songs by great trendsetting English band!

All Day and All Of the Night was their debut single in the U.S. It had an astonishing hard rocking sound, that riff is unforgettable.
It wasn't their debut single - You Really Got Me was.
Whatever it was, this is what I’d say: Thank you for the day!
I really got this,
and still have!

Undoubtedly the best 60'S band. One horse race. Ray even made sinusitis sexy.
Michael Igoe - "Ray even made sinusitis sexy" LMAO! Good one.
Cheers, friend.
And to you! That's a great observation. It makes Ray quite unique.
Thanks ! Ray was brilliant.
Yes, indeed!

Another great quintessential British band...No leopard skin leggings or hairspray here...All you silly Americans take note...
Half of this sounds like the Ramones. I can't believe these kinks were so derivative
HaHaHa, behave, the Ramones were shite.💩
Derivative? The KInks were around about 20 years before the Ramones.
