  • Caroline and Ola spent years sailing their first Linjett 35, so when the time came to build the second one they had a lot of great ideas about how to improve the design...both inside and out. Best of all, many of the fixes are super simple and user friendly. KISS: Keep It Simple Sailor!

About 20 seconds into the description of the preventer, I backed up about 3 times to try and understand how it was rigged. After I gave up, I found that Drake had Ola go over it in detail. Thanks Drake! Great video. This guy (Ola) is amazing. Their boat is amazing. I'll be watching this again for some other ideas like the hinged companionway hatch boards with the removable seat. Great stuff!

Ola and Caroline are a very inspirational couple. I watched all the videos you did with them. I really appreciate how you took the time to ask the questions I was asking myself as I was watching. I also appreciate the patience you had to create this video series with an insight into their own thought processes behind the decisions they made. You allowed them to tell their story in a way they may not have been able to tell on their own. By doing so, you gave all of US the privilege of meeting them and learning from them. Congratulations to Ola and Caroline on a brilliant boat design and build. And Thank You for putting this video series together. I am a better sailor and cruiser as a result.

Great Video! Very informative, I was so impressed with how Ola and Caroline set up their boat. The preventer, the hinged hatch, and the v-berth door which doubles as a magazine rack how cool. Love the Orca. You did a great job, Drake, on the interview! I had to stop the video a few times and sketch the preventer design.

Thanks Mark, glad you're enjoying the interview with Ola and Caroline. We're really loving all the beautiful work they did on their boat (That wood inlay on the head door!!!) and have even taken some ideas from them. (preventer anyone?) We're hunkered down at the moment and just acting as though we're on a long ocean voyage...with the added benefit of sporadic internet. You stay safe as well and take care. ⚓-Monique

And that preventer rig looks like a lovely companion piece to a barber hauler for a foresail. (I really love the idea of being able to control and trim sails with JUST lines and inexpensive parts that are easy to keep spares of. Blocks, lines, low-friction rings = $$, traveller tracks and cars = $$$$$)

great interview and boat tour, drake's interviews are always so chill and thoughtful 😎 well designed boat, thought about an ultra-warmed head and warmed wet locker many times, somewhere on my todo list. cheers to these cool sailors ⛵️

Being able to design a boat a second time after having lived aboard for some time is such a cool opportunity! I just think of all the little tweaks I would make aboard Paragon if given the chance. And yes, LOVING that warmed wet locker. What a cool idea to be able to access if from both the cockpit and inside the boat. And that preventer system...that's something we're seriously considering. It's on the list! (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique

Thanks, we're in the same boat. We were planning to sail back to Svalbard again this summer, but instead we're grounded in the UK hoping to have enough time to maybe sail to Faroe and/or Norway if the restrictions are lifted this summer.

@@drakeParagon Færøerne and Norway should be possible later as they are hit less hard with the virus than UK and especially the south of Europe. Not sure if there are any sailing restrictions for pleasure boats in my home country Denmark at the moment at all. The northern parts of Jutland, Læsø and even Anholt could also be interesting for you.
Me, I prefer to go south ;-)

Hi Drake! This serie of interviews with Ola & Caroline is awesome. I have enjoined it very much. Ola is a very smart and handy guy. I’m leaving a tip at your paypal . My question: I have seen 4 long wooden planks that are lashed on the stanchion post of s/v Relax. What are they used for? how?

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  Před 4 lety

      Hi Javier!
I’m so glad you enjoyed our interview of Ola and Caroline aboard s/v Relax and thank you so much for the tip!
Those wooden planks that they had lashed to the stanchions of Relax had two uses. The two wider and shorter ones that were amidships were fender boards. The other two thinner and longer ones on the bow were for pushing ice away from their boat. The two ice pushers had a finger-length metal spike in one end that allowed a better hold on the ice.
They left Greenland before we did and gave the two ice pushing planks to us before they left. Thank goodness they did because we had to use them to push away several large bergy bits that came into the harbour.
Also, at one point at the southern tip of Greenland we were tied up to a cement pier covered with huge tires. A bad storm came in and we were really worried because storm winds and waves were bashing Paragon up against those tires.
That’s when Éanna had the great idea of using those planks as fender boards!
I emailed you 5 photos of how we used those planks. They are frames taken from an upcoming episode. :)
Thanks again Francisco! We’re working hard on the next episode and the tip really means a lot to us.
      Take care,
      Drake
