Notes to add to your James Burton knowledge. He has been inducted into 3 different Halls of Fame, including the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame, and is regarded as one of the best guitarists of all time. James regarded Elvis as a good friend, not just an employer. In recent years (decades?) there have been a number of shows and programs featuring many who knew and worked with Elvis. James refuses to participate in any of those programs that include those people who James considered to have betrayed Elvis one way or another. He has never written a "tell-all" book about Elvis, and has expressed VERY definite opinions about those who did. In his 80s now, James continues to play and tour, and remains a very dedicated friend of Elvis. One of his nicknames is "The Master of the Stratocaster" - and he had a particular pink paisley one that he used playing and touring with Elvis.
He really is a true one and a master. While I believe Elvis had a hard time telling the difference between real friends and false ones, because many showed him only one side of their face, James is one of the few true ones. We know how much Elvis loved and admired him. " play the song James"...

Just FYI, according to fellow musicians, Elvis was "just average" as a rhythm guitar player, an excellent bass player, and a "decent pianist" All basically self-taught. The comment, however, again refers to James Burton, Elvis guitarist and leader of the TCB band. I do not dispute your facts about Stevie, (who publicly declared his respect for Elvis,) as I grew up with him and his music. I am also sorry that you view Elvis in such a negative light. I could write reams about your misunderstanding/misrepresentations of numbers 3, 4, and 5, but I suspect you are just repeating someone else's hate, and I don't choose to take the time and space that I would need to prove how wrong your interpretation is. What do you expect a black man to say about a white man, he was an a$$hole? How did that work out for black men in the past? They were raised to always say nice things about the white man. When Elvis fans see me commenting about Elvis as negative and or hateful are comments Elvis fans don't either want to accept or you don't want people to know about. Why do I view Elvis reactions? James Burton is the guitarist you are thinking of. Still alive and touring even today. I can hear Elvis say “ take it away James” as he goes into his marvellous solos. This is an interesting video where someone has taken the time to fit the words to movements of Elvis, clever but a bit disconcerting in that we know Elvis didn’t actually perform this at Aloha.

Elvis always loved Gospel first and foremost. It was his go to place to relax, find peace and share music with his friends and family. He would sing gospel into the early hours after his shows to unwind. Jerry Shilling said that Elvis’s favourite was “ You’ll never walk alone”!
He also loved ballads with meaning. “ Memories” is my favourite if you ever get time to play it, he sang it first on the 1968 Comeback special in his black leather and it’s very poignant and beautiful. Will be at my funeral🙏👌💕🕺

Elvis's main 🎶Guitar Man🎶 was James Burton. He is still alive actually. He survived a health scare not that long ago.
I am so glad he made it through 🙏 He shines a bright light (he has his own charitable foundation that donates guitars to kids and veterans that has a passion for music but may not be able to afford to buy a guitar).
And fun fact: The Master Of The Telecaster has played on 500 albums of various artists in his six decade (give or take) long career and he still going as of last year (age 83).
James Burton is totally self- taught and started playing professionally at age 14.
He is also a Louisiana native and still calls Louisiana home to this day.
Oh, and Ray, James Burton composed the music to a song that Dale Hawkins would put lyrics to and record called "Susy Q" (1958).
