Lupe Fiasco has shared his thoughts on JAY-Z‘s much lauded “GOD DID” verse, explaining that the Brooklyn legend’s catalog is too deep for the DJ Khaled feature to be considered among his best.
Speaking to HipHopDX, the Chicago rapper prefaced his opinion about JAY-Z’s latest offering by making it clear that his fandom for the Roc Nation mogul goes far and beyond the average music enthusiast.

#LUPEFIASCO #JAYZ #GODDID - Hudba
Lupe is showing mad respect here. The bars on GOD DID are cold but he been doing this for a minute catalog too expansive...true fans know
Any real JayZ fan knows this verse isn’t even top 10 for Hov
Oooh my God bless you
Not even 20 mayb 30
It’s up there bro. Cuz of the truth in his rhymes from the bottom to the top
Don't matter if its top 10 or not ... Its the message he threw out there along with that Whats Free verse..... Trying to make u a Billionaire with them ppl n ppl still slander this man is Crazy
@@Life_943 As a Hov fanatic, this is easily a top 5 verse if not higher. Just say you don’t understand the double and triple entendres. Some of these verses require you to have travelled & know UK slangs etc
Not his greatest verse, it's his testimony to his success in life
I disagree, if not his best it’s one of his best.
It’s boring.
its not even one of his best just a long ass verse ....
@@MrHowse-rt5bo come back here in 10 yrs
It’s not , but knowing that everything he said is true it hits different.
This isn’t his best verse but probably one of his most important one to him personally. He showed it by how much time he spent on the record. I don’t believe Jay-Z thought it would get this much attention but I’m sure he’s not complaining either. Question, I wonder is it fearful to be this famous? This is why 3 Stacks retired. But at the same time, it’s a blessing to be revered and respected this much that people take the time to listen to whatever you have to say. That’s a responsibility right there. All about having a balance.
The way he just kept on going though 😯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🏡
Its not that deep
But we all know that he will never be revered as Tupac ! ✌️
👍
@@siyabongabhongoza939 Yea I agree. We all are one of ones though.
When he started talking about how "when he hears Jay z rap, he starts rapping" dialogue, that was, I think, one of the greatest compliments to say to an artist who you admire and inspires you. Jay was on his cappadonna winter wars bag lol

4:44 was my favorite Hov album. Refined, honest, and reflective
I agree it was great but man blueprint was insanely beautiful
I don't think it's Jay's best, but it's about what he's saying that makes it a great verse.
Well said
you are a wise man
Thank you, Lupe. Most people want to comment on hip-hop but don’t really know the history. I don’t see how anybody could be a true student of hip-hop and conclude that that’s Jay-Z’s best verse. And that’s not to isolate people or shame them, but at the same time, they don’t HAVE to make big sweeping claims if they’re not 100% informed. They could easily just say “Jay snapped” and leave it there lol
Cappadonna Winter Wars verse is undoubtedly the best verse ever when it comes to long verses... Picking Jay's best verse is like picking a favorite child.
Prodigy - Apostle's Warning
Jay also mentioned and got into depths into this verse like he did on Seen It All talking about his journey with Emory, Ty etc it was not just “business and billionaire” it was all a hybrid of his early life pre music and music and business success whichs makes the verse very special!
Agreed!

I think there's a miss understanding here with fans saying his best verse. They actually mean to say at 52 years old his rapping better then alot of this hot rappers and interpret it as his best. Anyone that cares about hip hop knows jay has done better verse.

Jay-Z’s greatest long verse was the opening to ‘The Dynasty’ album
Is it Jay's best verse....no...but U heard what the GOAT Lupe had to say and Ima double down on that...it's a dope verse compared to what's out here and because we haven't had Jay do 90 bars in years it's a bit refreshing and the fact that Jay verse created a whole diatribe is amazing in itself...one verse stirred up all this conversation....this is what makes it FIRE

Its always going to be people that complain about everything and anything. I guess some just can't relate. One word q tips.
The problem is people overhyped the verse from the jump when it’s really just a solid verse nothing more in the first place. And this is coming from a big Jay fan. It was the same thing with his what’s free verse. It was overhyped. Hov has had way better verses

I didn't hear anything but praise from Lupe. The fact is perspective. Jay's verse was and is phenomenal but a lot of this generation don't know the barred up Jay and how many classics he has. For those that like to downplay the verse they was going to do that anyway under the guise of it's my opinion and that's cool. Lupe simply separated the old Hov and Jay now... and they're both great.
People don’t talk about smile enough. Truly one of his greatest verses ever.

I got to say Jay Z it's so GOAT that we can't even miss one feature he's on
Sounds like he was coming around towards the end, like he has his personal, technical favorites but like he said, we don’t get 4 min Hov verses and he was hittin em every bar. Definitely in his top verses 5, 10, or 20 but it gotta be up there
For Jay being 52 and still dropping verses they crazy as hell, the break down of Jays verse is nuts 🤦🏽♂️
I don't think it should be that surprising especially if he continues to write and practice. Younger Baby Boomers and Genxers created hip hop. Why wouldn't they continue to be good at it? The older they are the more points of reference they have, and life experience. As we continue to see, several of the greats still got it. It's up to the fans to not practice ageism and let them shine.
You ain't supposed to be able to write music at 52?
I agree it’s tight in this time but it was still Legendary
That was a display of the greatest “MARKETING” of a best verse. DJ Khalid’s on his press run sold it too everyone as the BEST JAYZ VERSE of jays career that whom said it and social media ran wit it
Lupe probably just made Jay's streams go up w/that breakdown.. and that Ari Melber piece was🔥
Thank you Lupe! 🙏🏾
Hov and Lu in my top 2 oat, I know Lu said he’s not a fan but a child of Jay. It’s cool to see him get all giddy like the rest of us fans when discussing Hov 😂
This is why DJ Khaled can never win a Grammy. No one even talks about the body of work we are talking about Jay's verse. A verse completely eclipsed the whole project.
You kind of remind me of Kendrick's control verse.
The dynasty intro, 1st verse on imaginary player, Real OG'S, never let me down 2nd verse, every verse on the track no hook, Hola hovito 2nd verse, 2nd verse from Allure. There is too many
"God Did" may not be his most significant verse for a rapper's rapper but his most exemplary socio-political lyrical manifestation. Better than what he did on Meek Mill's "What's free." I've spent weeks decoding the poetry and symbolism in this verse.
Can you break down his lyrics please
I wouldn’t be surprised if Lil Wayne put that beat on Carter’s six and rap the full beat because lil Wayne love Jay-Z also
Can I Live,Dead Presidents 1&2,Song Cry& his verse on Young Jeezy Seen It All those verses alone will kill that God Did verse! Oh yeah All I Need from Blueprint, I mean D’Evils, Heaven on Magna Carta Holy Grail. Like I don’t listen to him anymore like I used to and I’ve listen to all of his stuff. I read the lyrics for God did it was a light verse. His What’s Free verse on Meek Mill album was insane! But again to me personally #1 is Can I Live on Reasonable Doubt.
"Love you no more" verse was one of his best 🔥💪🏽💯
One of his best is on Diamonds From Sierra Leone
His pressure verse from food and liquor is better than the god did verse.

Jay Z is a five percenter, which he is affiliated with the Five Percent Nation was formed in 1963 by Clarence 13X, who was a member of the Nation of Islam but he split from them later. Jay has been studying this since his teens. The Five Percenters believe the black man is God. Rakim, Busta Rhymes, Public Enemy, Mos Def, Nas, Jay-Z, Jay Electronica, Brand Nubians, Wu-Tang Clan, Big Daddy Kane, Nore, AZ and others. That’s why his nickname Jay-Hova was given to him by his mentor Jaz O plus it also mean God MC. Jay also grew up in a Christian household and his grandfather was a preacher. When he found out that his grandfather molested his aunt when he was younger, it made him reject religion but after studying Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity, he forgave his grandfather, Jay felt like he found his place in this world. And he of course he also believes in God. I mean he thanked God from one of the award shows years ago.

He is right. That Marcy Me 1st verse is a god verse. It’s a masterclass in MCing. But honestly every verse on Reasonable Doubt and Blueprint is better from a lyrical point of view. Jay Z is the master of double entendres and God did has a few but it’s not fair to compare this verse to any other verse from any other rapper because JayZ has the luxury of explaining and having think pieces and interviews about his verse. That’s not fair. If I get to explain all of the jokes then is it really funny? That’s the key to the gift of MCing the ability to take a message from the heavens, the ether and bring it back to people and communicate it in and effective and witty way. If I have to explain the nuances of the verse I just spit did I really do my job as an MC? A verse should be complex enough to be witty but simple enough to communicate to the masses effectively
