- A barge crashed into a bridge on the Texas coast on Wednesday, forcing the closure of the only roadway to a small island off the city of Galveston and spilling oil into the river.
No injuries were reported and the Pelican Island Bridge, almost 100 kilometres southeast of Houston, remained standing after the barge ran into it.
The collision comes amid heightened concerns in the U.S. about the vulnerability of bridges after a cargo ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March, killing six people and resulting in its collapse.

Another one????
"I'm not worried about it" .. "I don't know much about water systems". Yep, sounds about right.
This is just to add, I am a full bore conspiracy theorist. I think last month’s eclipse and the aurora borealis in Arkansas the other night were both staged. I just don’t no nothin about water systems. And I am not worried about the water. I won’t drink it cuz I drink Perrier. So lay off.
Well, given the bayous and waterways in that area, the oil spill might be an improvement in water quality... Remember that just upstream of this bridge is most of the refineries in North America. Stay at home orders for accidental release of chlorine gas is common in that area, there are subdivisions where tap water can be ignited...
corruption is criminal
Smoking that grass again
Accident lol 😆
They need to start holding these people accountable for destroying our infrastructure
DEI hiring is our strength people
3rd time, first train derailments, the airplains, and now bridges
One of the boeing whistleblower suddenly showed up dead with a bullet wound in the head.
Don’t forget the food processing plant fires
Lmao, with all the advancements in modern technology?
And people think we're smarter now, HA.
That me in the film clip!
Damn! it actually is... did they spell your name wrong?
What the hell is that thing

At least it's not San Antonio:)
Morals and advancement are twins
Weird
Charles Barkley " Them beaches just to oily for me now"
The beaches in the area are usually hard enough to drive on and if you dig down through the sand, you'll see layers from the many oil spills in the area.
Charles Barkley is going to love this one.
Oops!! No trains for sure !!
dafuk is that thing?
It seems like a pretty stupid way to transport fuel in the first place. I wonder if like large ships, a barge is required to be Double-Hulled ? I'm sure the energy/fuel company has lobbied to have as few restrictions and overhead costs as possible.
Furthermore, any navigable waterway that has vessels over a certain size (to be determined accordingly) should have piles or bollards to prevent collisions with bridge structural elements. Maximum Vessel weight and/or dimensions should be posted on the bridge. It seems lazy and cheap that this hasn't been done for far too many brides in the USA.
The safest and cheapest way to transport fluids is by pipeline. And guess who lobbies against pipelines all over north America? For the benefit of diesel trains. Lol
This is getting ridiculous...Ban bridges immediately, where is the money from congress for that??????
Banning bridges would be ridiculous.
Maintaining them is the solution.
🤔 Nobody finds this a little coincidental.
"Best day if my life" lol
This announcer has Valley Girl vocal burn
It's like ships are targeting bridges on PURPOSE!!! HMMM........ AUTHORITIES need to look into this.
Another KEY bridge. A Large shipyard is on that island.
The news wont say who the capt is nor who owns the barge
The Pelican Island Causeway is in NO way a "key" transportation asset. It can easily be temporarily replaced by a spare ferryboat or two from Port Aransas just like the Port Isabel Causeway was when it got knocked into the water by a barge tow in September 2001. In addition to some shipyards and tank farms, Pelican Island also has the Texas A&M university Galveston campus and a public park with two World War Two US Navy vessels you can visit. What's your actual point?
@@colormedubious4747 their point is to connect their last two brain cells together to make their conspiracy theories line up.
Maybe you should read or learn to use Google search.
Who owns the barge that hit the bridge in Galveston?
Martin Petroleum.
"The captain has 20 years of experience" ~ Martin Petroleum
The part that was hit, was garbage, part of an unused rail track, while the bridge itself is garbage that was scheduled to be rebuilt in 2025 anyway. THANKS TO PRESIDENT BIDEN'S INFRASTRUCTURE BILL.
@colormedubious4747 so just like the Baltimore Bridge. This RAILWAY bridge had n0 strategic value
@@zombieat There hasn't been rail service across this bridge in decades, but the road bridge is of local importance (and is still functioning). The Francis Scott Key Bridge is FAR more economically significant to a much larger region.
kind of looks like america is falling apart.
You're a coincidence theorist if you think 3 of these incidents in such a short time are accidental.
Pattern recognition specialists is what we are, not conspiracy theorists.
@@deesmith6363 oh wow you can recognize patterns? That's amazing
OoOo! Snappy sarcasm. I like it!
What are you if you intentionally ignore the fact that bridges get knocked off their piers ALL the time? Port Isabel Causeway was knocked into the Intracoastal Waterway just a few days after 9/11/01 by a barge tow and you probably never heard a word about it. We lose a few road bridges here in Flash Flood Alley every damn year. Heck, a flash flood knocked the heavy steel footbridge into the wet weather creek at my tiny Hill Country ranch a few months ago.

I dont want to start a kerfuffle or anything but in all of the incidents that happened lately with the ships and barges , a female was driving the ship in each incident.
Don't they have lookouts for the driver 🤔 reckon they were ALL women 👌
Got a link that proves that?
@@MaryShoemaker-wi4fy yes sorry the navigators were woman. The reason they failed was due to them actually not knowing mathematics.
@@cb613 👌
Not true. The one that took the bridge down was a male. That one lost engine power and free drifted
