  • Amhrán Mhuinse | Amhrán traidisiúnta ar an sean-nós le tras-scríobh/liricí
The singer is either Sorcha Bean Uí Chonfhaola or Sarah Ghriallais.
The melody is transcribed up an octave and into the key of C. Just one verse has been transcribed. Here is a link to the full recording: • Sean nos Amhran Mhuigh...
“Amhrán Mhuínse” or “Amhrán Mhuighinse” is a traditional sean-nós lament from Connemara in the West of Ireland. The song is sung from the perspective of a dying woman, who wishes for her body to be returned to the remote Connemara island of Maínis or ”Mweenish”. Taimín Bán is the name of her husband. It is unknown how old the song is, but it is thought to be from the nineteenth century. The melody is probably much older, and was used for a variety of traditional songs in Irish and English.
Is cumha sean-nóis traidisiúnta as Conamara in iarthar na hÉireann é “Amhrán Mhuínse” nó “Amhrán Mhuighinse”. Cantar an t-amhrán ó pheirspictíocht mná atá ag fáil bháis, ar mian léi go dtabharfaí a corp ar ais go Maínis, oileán iargúlta Chonamara nó “Mweenish”. Taimín Bán an t-ainm atá ar a fear. Ní fios cén aois é an t-amhrán, ach ceaptar gur ón naoú haois déag é. Is dócha go bhfuil an tséis i bhfad níos sine, agus baineadh úsáid as le haghaidh éagsúlacht amhrán traidisiúnta i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla.

I have never been to Ireland, but this took me back to my boyhood church in Appalachia.

This is absolutely beautiful. I' m American with Irish ancestry. My maternal grandparents were born and raised in Ireland and made their way to America in their teens. I am feeling the pull to learn the Irish language. In my research, I've learned that it is making a comeback in Ireland and is also gaining popularity in other parts of the world as well. What a beautiful language. Thank you for creating this amazing channel and for sharing these priceless and precious captures of history and tradition.
