In this episode I mess around with the Sim Settlements mod which adds into the game a simcity like building system for settlements.

Thanks for the review! FYI, the farms produce even MORE than vanilla once they reach max level - your settlers are a bunch of wandering refugees, they have to learn to farm first!
Also, if you watch the Quick Start video - there's a trick for getting your settlers to use vanilla items and still have a home!

You should make a update to add a new plot: power. The hire the lvl the more power being produced
Its funny to see that he used this mod in that settlement, because that's exactly the place that I want to use it for too.
I don't know. I think my settlers are always happy with my 3x3 concrete housing units that I set up. So utilitarian, so uniform and who does not like sleeping all together in one big room? This might be interesting to see what the little minions come up with though.
well you can certainly still build those things, for me I've been finding this mod perfect for those bases I never use. pop a few zones down and bam now there is a living town in the wasteland that wasn't there before and with little effort on my part ... plus they pay me money lol
I agree, I was being facetious :-D This will be way more interesting than my lazy buildings built only to meet basic needs as numbers.

You really ought to revisit this mod, Kinggath and his team have been cranking out updates and expansions with a fully voiced cast, every other week for the last couple of years. There is a TON of content! Fully formed 'sim cities' that you don't have to build, quests, the ability to kill Preston when you first meet him, and a lot more. It makes Fallout 4 a totally different game in some ways.
This mod is simply the best mod ever! Can you impliment a banking system please or is there one already? Thanks from the rest of the FO4 community :D
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I like the building part of FO4, although I'm not very good at it, because I don't have an architect's or an engineer's mind, so mostly what I build is functional but messy. Usually I try to have an overall plan, centred on defensibility, because the Wasteland is so hostile, so I like town walls, and big buildings with two or three stories and only one or two doors that look like they are weatherproof and like monsters can't just wander into or fly into, with guard posts and turrets on top of. I know the game doesn't actually require that much precautions, but then the game has all these survivors living under frequent rad-storms in shacks that don't even keep out rain, who would all be ghouls or dead, so I don't care what the game will allow, I want to try to give settlers the protection they would actually need. Using these self-building plots is easy, but it buys into, firstly individualism, with everyone having separate, one room houses (with no doors and completely open to the elements), rather than living together for mutual protection, and then it imposes a restriction in terms of layout, because of the standard floor area of the plots, and then it requires a large amount of space to house everyone, which many settlements don't have, like Hangman's Alley and Jamaica Plain (which is on a huge area, but cluttered with unscrapable buildings, so the areas you can actually build on are quite small).
luckily, even witht he mod installed, it makes itself completely optional. It's more of a time saver if you don't want to customize every single settlement.
exactly, for me I still have my 3 bases I use and love to build at but for all the other bases I could care less about I find myself now building with zones in these areas.

Bro sometimes you make it seem like playing fallout is boring and lame unless you use all these mods. I like mods too but the game is awesome without them. I turned the Starlight Drive In into a huge MM military base without any mods. It's the Castle of the north for me. Imagination goes a long ways in this game. Love your vids bro.
This looks great. If we get an extension that allows it to build clean vault settlements, that'd be great, because I hate the destroyed buildings in the workshop.
5 year comment. I don't do much settlement building and this would really help me

I got a bug where my defense jumps to 999 and i have nothing in the settlement. Idk how to stop that.
I don't know if you know this, but as the farms get upgraded, you'll get more food
that's good to know, like I said in the vid I've had trouble so far getting things to upgrade. so hopefully once I get that settlement a bit more sorted I should see that happen. thanks for the info
No problem, from what I can tell all the buildings can be upgraded and if they give you something, you get more as you level the buildings up. Some meant to have stories coming to them too.
Can they pick the weapons of a fallen raider so they can put it on inventory so you don't need to pick it up by yourself
I love building things (more than the actual game this time), even if the system here is halfassed at best, but this looks like a lot of fun. Maybe you can manually add food to the farm plots? I think I will play with this. I kind of hope I can manually adjust the buildings a bit, but still, I think a mix of this and normal building will be nice.

It requires another mod, and a unique ini edit, but it is fun to play with! XD
I found out, that while you can plant food in the agricultural plots, they will not farm them. It makes using them a problem, since they produce 80 less surplus food than normal settlers.

I think that Bethesda should’ve made it so that sometimes, settlers will ask you if they can build something, like farms, houses or shops, and you will have to place down an area of a different size and type.
This, This is how it should have bin in F4.
I agree, it really feels like rebuilding the commonwealth now as the people are having a part in it rather then me just building crappy buildings all over
