  • The point of this video is to show the movement of Bracy and others in the blocks before and after the gun went off on his record 55m. It is a series of comparisons of the field before the gun and after the gun. The pregun frame is 0. The gun firing is frame 1. Frame 4 would be 100 ms after frame 1. Frame 7 is 200 ms after frame 1.
    Some background:
My camera shot at 30 frames per second. I handheld the camera for the footage. The process of rasterization of pixels(converting light into a square block of color) isn't a perfect representation of exactly where someone is when filming from across the track. The Olympic standard for a false start is less than 100 ms reaction time. That would be fewer than 3 frames in my video.
    Things to point out:
    1. I am showing the pre-gunshot frame as frame 0. On frame 1 the smoke is clearly visible which means the gun went off sometime between frame 0 and 1, which could be up to 33 ms, but probably closer to 15 ms.
    2. Bracy is clearly shifting forward at frame 3, which is 100 ms after frame 0, but only 66 ms after frame 1 where the smoke is visible. If you add the 15 ms to the 66, you come up short of the 100 ms Olympic standard.
    3. Bracy has the best start of the race, while the runner in lane 4 next to him has nearly the worst reaction in the race, making it seem even faster.
    4. I have shown a comparison of how far Bracy moves from frame 3 to 7 because it represents another 100 ms of time, in which hardly any high school athlete moves at all.
    5. Frame 1 to frame 7 is a full 200 ms after the smoke is visible and only one athlete has begun to move their back foot and lift their hands, Bracy.
I still believe that Bracy guessed the gun. It's hard to determine definitively if this would have been an Olympic false start. I would say it is a little fast of 100 ms. However I would point out that 100 ms is an arbitrary number someone picked out as elite reaction time. Read some stuff on how Devon Allen was robbed in the hurdles by 1 ms too fast.

I don't need to be called a liar for showing and explaining my video. You can make up your own mind, I am simply explaining technical things that might effect your interpretation of the video.
