- In this video I use the Mora robust to prepare kindling an feather sticks to light a fire, I also use my super cheap Mora 510. first use of my new Chinese kettle and my thoughts on it so far.
Scott (welshwoodsman Outdoors) and I have a chat about our relatively recently found admiration for Mora knives and other things knife related.
Mora is a great starter and finisher knife. Starter when your budget minded and finisher after you've spent big money on lots of other knives you think you need, and years later remember that the first Mora is still around and still does the job. Cheers

This is still one of my favourite videos, and whenever it pops up I have a good look and a good laugh. I can just imagine the mischief you two could get up to!
Since getting my Trail Master I'm getting more interested in that Master Hunter. It seems to me to be the ideal smaller knife for around the camp, and can do all those littler jobs. I would never be so finicky about the very fine feathersticking like you Rob, so I probably wouldn't ever go for a Scandi grind knife. [Definitely don't have the skill!]
In my opinion, if one has a Trail Master, an SRK, and a Master Hunter that about does it for choice, That covers just about every choice I would ever need to make. Backed up with a Silky that's about it.
But, bloody hell, I have that collector bug and would always want more than necessary. I'm probably where you guys were back in the day!

I still think that the master hunter is too big to be a companion to the Trailmaster, a folder or small fixed blade is a better choice.
@@RobEvansWoodsman OK, I'll think about that. Although, the 3-3,5" blades of the R2Scout and Pendleton seem a bit stubby to me.
I would in any case have a Victorinox Ranger Grip on hand! ;-)
What about the skinny Mora 510 , you'd be able to feather wood and shave like a superstar with that .

Just ordered a couple of _Hultafors_ from Ebay for two pals.
They're newbies to all this malarkey, so I thought: _Start them off on something cheap and if either or both decide it's not for them as a hobby, then it isn't money wasted._
If they decided camping out with the minimum and crafting shelters, building fires, snaring etc is something worth getting involved in, then they'll remember those cheap knives for the rest of their days, maybe round a campfire, like you boys did on this vid, which I really enjoyed, so thanks for uploading, Rob!

Great video Rob. Moras are a strong knife. I use my Companion HD for prying, stabbing and battoning. Other knives have broken but my Mora just keeps going. The handle really suits my hands too. No blisters or hotspots after hours of carving. I love my Moras.
I just bought a Condor HD Kukri. That thing is a monster! It should arrive next week sometime.😊

I love the little Mora 510, I bought 2 of the Ray Mears versions when he did 2 for £20, bargain. One of my favourite knives. Like you, I now mainly use Moras, as they are intended, while the more expensive knives stay in the drawer.
I wish I'd bought two of them at that time.
Are they a little thicker than the standard 510?
@@RobEvansWoodsman Hi Rob, the blade is around 2.5mm thick, much the same as a standard clipper/companion.

I’m my young whipper snapper days we had Mora knives. When I got a bit older, I was thinking I need a way better knife than the Mora. Like a Fellkniven or whatever. I was wrong. A Mora robust is all you need. Or Maybe if you’re building a log cabin get a Hultafors GK
If a Mora ain't good enough for the job, you need either an axe, a saw, or a gun.

I was interested in your remark (14.22) about the workman you saw carrying two knives in a Swedish airport. A few years ago, we were over in Sweden installing a large piece of equipment in a steelworks (the oldest in the world). It was noticeable that nearly every worker around that plant had a knife or knives on his belt: mostly Moras/Frosts. It seemed completely natural and unremarkable for them to do so. Try that in the UK and you'd have an armed response unit/SWAT team arriving in double quick time!
I think I would prefer a wire handle/bail on that stainless kettle to sit more comfortably on the pot hanger. Could you not drill the holes out inside the spout to make it faster at pouring?

I don't think the word cheap can be used to define Morakniv knives!Affordable is more suitable word.Cheap means substandard construction and materials.Morakniv on the other hand uses good quality materials and perform well!

Which mora do you recommend for first mora knife, companion HD or robust?!
Either would be fine, I prefer the robust but I think the companion HD is more popular. Robust has a smaller handle.
Not being a Swede but living in rural central Sweden I inadvertently took the knife wearing in public to new heights when I wore my Fallkniven F1 in it's plastic sheath to a job interview (and no I'm not a tradesman, I'm a driver). No one blinked an eye at it, if they even noticed it, and I got the job. When I started the next day and I was given a uniform, shoes and an orange Hulafors Kraftkniv to complete the relaxed knife image of awesome Sweden.
Wonderful country, shame they frown on burning dead twigs!!! You can light a fire but cant cut dead wood.
@@RobEvansWoodsman Never heard that...nor have I ever not done that. To dead stuff is where I go for my frequent bush fires. The beauty is: there's never a sole around to view your practices (2.3 people per sq kilometer for our county).
Last year on our canoe trip in Dasland, Scott and I filmed the trip for our CZcams channels, he put a link on Facebook and the canoe supplier saw it and wasnt happy because we went into the woods to find dead wood to burn. He said that its illegal to cut or take dead standing timber. They got in a bit of an argument on Facebook, they are meant to leave fire wood at each camp but didn't so we were forced to get our own.
You pay for this wood, if they cant be bothered to leave it then expect people to look for their own. We're responsible and get only dead wood that's away from camp, many of the summer visitors don't give a shit.

The £15 Mora won’t have a proper tang, highly tapered. The Black Mora has a full tang as far as I know.
But Mora are brilliant and great prices
Love their plastic sheafs with clip and drainage hole, prefer them over kydex sheafs
I think it's a 3/4 tang in the black .
Think you might be right Rob it’s the £80 + one that has the full length tang.
