    For me it is refreshing to note that the sound recorder the professionals use doesn't have a 'pro' in it's name and is waaaay more expensive than anybody else but a real pro can afford. It was also a relevation to discover that the 'definitely out of my aspiring pro range' device - the 888 - was the backup device. So loving it. What a reality check. Thanks a ton for this most educational contribution!

    It’s really cool how he uses the MixPre-3 II for added ambience. Just goes to show how far the preamps have comes for prosumer recorders-they’re good enough that they can be used by true professionals for ambience, SFX, and as a backup recorder.

    Wow this setup is amazing. I love the little speakers for producers to save on more receivers. I used the a10 belt caddy on an amazon prime reality show. It was amazing as I could tune into 22 transmitters and check batteries, signal, and adjust artists too. I love watching these videos to see what professional high end productions use and what works best. I use EBL batteries but I'll definitely be looking at the varta batteries. Great stuff URSA for doing all these videos of inside the sound crew.

    Thank you for the video. Fascinated by his preference for cabled booms. I'd love to know how common that is on big budget movies these days.

    • @URSAStraps
      @URSAStraps  Před 2 lety +4

      Hey Stephen, going on a cable boom used to be the norm. But nowadays wireless digital transmitters sound almost as good as a cable but with the benefit of so much freedom. This freedom of movement also helps improve the audio vs fighting against a cable and spending time running the thing out & hiding it all the time. So in answer to your question - its very rare these days to go on a cable boom. But it is THE BEST sound. And Stephane only wants to record the best sound :)

    • @stephenmolloy4244
      @stephenmolloy4244 Před 2 lety +1

      @@URSAStraps Thank you for your reply. Interesting! The majority of jobs I've been on have been with cables but that has been more for budgetary reasons. I was told once upon a time that plug-on transmitters don't give you the same dynamic range as a cable and that the higher end brands (Wisycom, Lectros) would be needed to record dialogue for drama. I'm not sure if things have changed since then. But it's just cool to see the different approaches mixers have.

    • @TeddyRumble
      @TeddyRumble Před 25 dny

      @@URSAStrapsyet...if you have a bag with a really good recorder, mics, etc, you are totally independent and can use a boom mic,wireless, personal data recorders, etc.
