    You are killing it ! I just started ice skating (27) and it’s so much fun! Love seeing people pick up a hobby I’m working on backwards crossovers they are my biggest enemy 😭

      Thanks! I've been struggling with Backward Crossovers for months now too. I live in hope that they'll eventually feel natural, haha!

    I'm 56 and I started ice skating since 9 month once a week ! You are doing well my advice ( for me it helps me a lot ) you should stop watching your feet or the ice it'll give you more confidence and a little more speed helps I think to get the exercice more natural. BRAVO.

    I have been watching your videos. Great Job! Just one small tip that everyone seems to give: bend your ankles. What I mean is: bend your knees to the point that you can feel the fronts of your shins against the tongue of your boots. As well, keep your back up by lining up your shoulders with your hips, and try to keep both your arms level. All of this will help to lower your center of gravity, thus, giving you more direct contact into the the ice...you will feel so much more secure. I tell my students to listen for the "crunch under your feet" or "a sound of a zipper being pulled down"...that is how you will know when you are IN the ice as opposed to being ON top of it. Another quick tip: try looking into the circle that you are skating on. This will help to line your entire body up and get you on your edges where you need to be. Keep up the great work!!!

      Thank you for the tips! I always think about bending my knees more, but not necessarily my ankles. I'll keep this in mind when I practice later this week!

      I had never understood bending at the ankle

    Thank you Jen! You are such an inspiration. I see you made so much progress and this gives me hope (I had my first adult skating class today at 35 - almost 36 years old). I appreciate your honesty and including falls in your videos, it's the reality of skating :)

      Thanks for watching! Progress is slow, but it seems to happen if you trust the process! I love that you're taking up skating as an adult too!!!

    Thanks for sharing your journey again. Well done. Here are some tips: 0:09 you fell after you stepped forward on your right foot onto an outside edge. Make sure you step onto an inside edge when crossing over and keep your mass over the skating foot (you fell because your weight was too far behind and to the right). Try to hold each position and glide before making another step. Really try to make a proper under push after your cross your foot over. I think practising your forward stroking (inside and outside edges) will help. Keep trying and you will get there. You will start your backwards cross overs soon :)

      Thank you for the tips! ☺ I recently tried keeping my weight over my skating foot, and it really did make a difference on how stable the crossover felt!

    You are doing well. I just notice the speed is lacking a bit, which actually makes it way harder to skate and do your one foot glides and crossovers. In case you feel uncomfortable, id recommend getting some pads and just go fot it. That worked a lot for me (now skating for a year as well)

    • @jenonice
      @jenonice  Před rokem +2

      Thanks! My instructors are always telling me to skate faster too! 😅 Most of my classmates wear protective padding and they are definitely more confident than I am on the ice! I'll look into it!

    "Youthful" lady...you deserve a tremendous amount of credit (and applause) for taking on such a demanding sport that requires a great deal of control and balance...but...WHERE'S YOUR HELMET???!!! I am 72 and have been skating for a year now and even though I am getting quite proficient at crossovers, simple spins, forward spirals, and slowly getting a handle on Shoot The Duck, I wouldn't even think about going out on the ice without my helmet.

      Thanks! That's so awesome you're skating as an older adult! I love it! I'll probably put on some protective gear at some point (especially since I have so much fear of falling, haha)

    You need SPEED to get those crossovers flowing. Keep it going.

    • @jenonice
      @jenonice  Před rokem +1
