WOW so cool. YAY!!!! For three turns my coach tells me that i rush them . Ur supposed to feel a kind of momentum or push and that kinda helps me to turn the other way- I still suck at them in general tho especially on certain sides. I also do it a lil differently from you but I thought I’d share that knowledge 😃. Great progress especially for 26 months! I skated with a 70 year old the other day and I, 19 years old could not keep up and eventually tripped on my toe pick and fell out of exhaustion LOL. Anyone can do it.
Things I’d rather do than a back crossover: 1. Waltz jump 2. Salchow jump 3. Split on the ice 4. Pet a shark
I am 40 and been skating since 5 years old, people always think that I am much younger than my actual age.

Hi. I'm wondering if you're only working on the same one or two elements in a session? Have you tried connecting the skills you have already learned? Learning one element in isolation is fine at first, but it is more fun and effective to practice different steps and transitions:)
Hello Jen! I'm so happy I came across your channel. Im a newbie beginner skater who started in my mid twenties and the way you show your progress has been very helpful and relaxing to watch as well. Do you also share on instagram? Would love to follow you on there as well. Hope to see much more of your progress! X
hi i am around 40 and learning to skate for the first time. thanks for the inspiration, keep going and enjoy yourself
Oh, I forgot to add something that has helped me in the past with back cross overs is imagine yourself sitting on a chair. For me it gets me to bend the knees without repeating in my head “bend knees..bend knees…bend knees” over and over. 😊
Thank you for the tip! I'll think about it when I skate later today... I'm always yelling at myself in my head to bend my knees, haha!
You inspire me so much. Due to a series of injuries and unfortunate events I have to learn to skate all over again from moment one. This will be my fourth time starting over. I have felt so defeated but seeing someone else have a slower journey gives me hope. Thank you for your updates.
Thanks for watching! Slow progress is frustrating to me too, but then I tell myself I don't really have any end goals of competing or performing, so... 😅
Progress is never a straight line to the top so keep believing in yourself no matter what others say. . If you believe it will be achieved. Also I suggest you count hours spent practicing vs. months coz it's more fair /realistic⛸️
You totally inspired me to take lessons; I’m been a year and I’m still trying to get my forward crossovers. Congrats on getting your backwards crossovers!
Taking lessons really pushed me to work on my Forward Crossovers more consistently... I'm still working on them two years into it, but they aren't as scary as they use to be 😅
Motivated by your 3turns thanks for sharing jen
Thanks for watching! It does feel like I've been working on them forever, haha
Hello, Jen! I used yoga bricks to train shoot the duck off-ice. It's not that difficult to sit down, but to get back up is a real deal. I hope you enjoy every time when you're on ice. I was hospitalized in March, and it went a little bit wrong. Now I'm trying to come back but can only skate forward slowly at the moment. I try to remind myself about patience but it's actually so difficult to be patient.
Oh no! 😟 I totally understand about not being patient enough when it comes to skating... Slowly but surely you'll regain your progress! I seem to have the opposite problem with Shoot the Duck... I can't balance when I sit down (at least when I try it off ice) 😭 I'll try it with yoga blocks though since I've just been holding onto a chair when I practice it
Love seeing your content! Are you taking lessons at the rink? I'm an adult beginner too and enjoy seeing this type of video!
Thanks for watching! I also love watching other adults pick up skating too! I'm currently not taking lessons, but I plan to restart group lessons later this month!
@@jenonice yeay to going back to the ice! I can't wait for my group lessons (my city offer them for free in winter) but currently in private lesson working on my turns, spins and waltz jumps
Thanks for sharing! Keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching!
Love that you’re documenting your journey! Skating isn’t easy and after a few years it’s so easy to forget how far you come from the early days. You’re doing great!
Thanks! 😊
Go girl! 🎉
Thanks! 😊
Yu are working sohard n your backward cross overs - may I give you a few tipps? Because your rotation is wrong. Your bottom is looking the way you go - but your upper body should turn towards the middle of the circle. Your arm, which is in skating direction is higher that the other arm, but both arms are facing the circle. Your face should look in the direction you are going - in the same direction like you bottom - so that your body is rotatet nearly 180°. Otherwise your hard work won't become successful.
Thank you for the tips! I will be more mindful about my upper body positioning when I practice this week! I've been so focused on what my feet are doing! 😅
Nice work, fine three turns❤
Thanks! 😊
Wow lots of progress
Thanks! 😊
Hello, Jen, great to see you on ice once again! Progress may be slow but it's still progress. At least I have to remind myself of that every time I feel impatient. I did my first shaky 3-turn about 18 months ago, and 9 months ago I learned the last one (backward outside). And last summer I felt happy that I could do all kinds of 3-turns, but then the fall came and I suddenly realized that my 3-turns were in fact rather poor. So here I am still nursing my 18 months old forward outside 3-turns, and still stumbling, and still twitchy, and my most recent fall was from a 3-turn.
Ahhh... ok, it's not just me then! 😅 Thanks for sharing! I'll be a little bit more patient with myself. It really feels like it's taking forever, but it's just always a work in progress...
You are killing it ! I just started ice skating (27) and it’s so much fun! Love seeing people pick up a hobby I’m working on backwards crossovers they are my biggest enemy 😭
Thanks! I've been struggling with Backward Crossovers for months now too. I live in hope that they'll eventually feel natural, haha!
You can do it, it can be tough getting back into the swing of things but the best thing is that you're trying. Also wishing you luck in regards to your career.
this is amazing! KEEP IT UP :)
Thanks for watching!
So glad to see you again, Jen. You rock!
Thanks for watching!
Wow good job! I didn't learn that turn yet. I will try it tomorrow! I also just started age 40! 😀😃❄️⛸ it's never too late🎉
Yay! I love seeing other people my age on the ice!
Amazing! I just started learning bacisc on my own t2 yo, but my mum just started learning skiing at 44yo, its so lovely to see. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for watching! I love seeing other adults learn to skate too! 😊
Hello, Jen, nice to see you back on ice! You should have had your birthday recently, so my congratulations! Nice to see you trying 3-turns on both sides. I wonder how do you usually spend your ice time. Do you have some kind of ice routine?
Thanks! 😊 I usually warm up for 15 minutes on the ice with Forward Stroking, Forward and Backward Chasses on a circle and Two-Foot Turns. Once I'm warmed up, I'll practice Forward Crossovers, 3-Turns and Backward Crossovers. Do you have an ice routine too?
i am no where near being an adult but oh my god this video has been a huge inspiration
Thanks for watching!
I saw all your videos right now. I barely know how to roller skate and went ice skating only two times (we don't have many places for ice skating in Brazil since its not part of our culture), so i'm now getting some inspiration and seeing some iceskating videos. Usually people like me just want to jump to intermediate/advanced stuff, but you're focused and patient and i can learn from that too. If you loose some fear of doing spins and jumpings (like waltz jump) you will master for sure! Wish you all the best ! Keep inspiring people !
Thanks for watching! I'm trying to be less scared of everything this year, so I can improve faster😅
Those backward crossovers aren't the right technique: the outside leg does not literally cross over the inside boot, it stays on the ice and slides downward in front of the other foot. You also don't seem to have the same confidence gliding backwards with your legs crossed as you do gliding forwards, you seem to be in a rush to uncross them. I don't know if you were taught this technique as part of a progression to correct backward crossovers but I think you're not going to go much farther with it so, if you can, maybe you can arrange a drop-in lesson with a coach and get some help learning the correct technique so you can practice it on your own. Keep it up, you can master this! Backward crossovers are a very unnatural and uncomfortable motion at first, but when you get past that they become one of the smoothest and best feeling elements on the ice.
Thank you for the tips! I was only taught the beginner version of the Backward Crossovers which is what I’ve been practicing. I will watch some CZcams tutorials and see what I can do about progressing them!
Sehr schön :) .... fange jetzt erst wieder an, bin 59, das letzte Mal vor 20 Jahren auf Kuven gestanden. Was soll's? Ich möchte einfach nur Spaß ;) Alles Liebe für Dich ... Liebe Grüße Marita aus Deutschland...
Keep on, Jen! Love your lunge posture. 👍
Thanks!😊
To have wow effect you have to add 20 years at least to your age. For me it seems u r not enough strong for figure skating. If u will get more fit, your figure skating progress much faster
Not much progress at all
You seemed to be very intentional and in control of your movement! Good luck with future training!
Thanks!
Awesome. Hugs from Mexico
Nice!
sis, you are too slow because you are falling not enough。 First, train your strength off-ice, especially your core and legs. Second, wear protection pads for the elbow, knees, hip, and hands, then speed and lean your body to feel different edges. Usually, 20 Months should be complete 1A. Third, you are still better than me. Keep going!
Thank you for the suggestions! It's a new year, so it's a good time for me to get more out of my comfort zone!
I love this, I thought I was too old and i’m just 16, seeing this gives me hope in starting to figure skate❤
Good luck. I am 16 and started skating at 15. Its never to late to figure skate
@@oriannavlogs400 Thanks! I’m gonna try in january, good luck in improving!! I honestly love seeing people starting later in life because it gives me hope that I can do it too
You are so young still! I see teenagers improve so quickly at the rink!
Looking good! Keep going girl! I started skating myself, and I am 29. Seeing you progressing is such an inspiration. Hank you for sharing!
🎉hi! I started skating when I was 30.. did you just start??
Thanks for taking the time to watch! I like seeing other adult skaters out there on the ice!
Hi Jen, I watched all your progress from 1 month to now. Your progress encourages me a lot. I am 43, just started skate from last October. I past Leant to skate 1. I am looking for to buy my own skate. Did you wear your skates from beginning until now. What model is it? My goal is good all basic skills and can do some half jumps if I can but not double jump or triple jumps. I don’t want to change the skates just after a few months.
Yes, I got my own skates during my first month of classes (Learn to Skate 1). I bought the Jackson Freestyles. I love that you're learning to skate too and have specific goals! I'm just trying to see how far I can get, haha.
Good work!
Hey for the crossover don't pick up the foot try to keep it on the ice you want to also lean into the circle I see that you kinda are out of it.But amazing work though.
Thank you for the tip! I'll be more aware of that when I practice this week!
Amazing
I'm 45, and I've been learning figure skating for a couple of years too. I support you, well done! Greetings from Russia!
Thanks for watching!
I’m so sorry to hear that. You’ll be okay. Tip- off ice (stretching, off ice jumping and other training routines) pay off as well- even if you don’t get as much ice time, you’ll get through this rough patch. Just remember why you started.
Thank you! I'll definitely have more time now to try more off-ice training, haha!😅
Glad to see you again! I wasn’t sure but it looked for me that more than month passes since your previous video. Even thought about weighting you to ensure, are you doing well. Sad update, but I believe after all everything is for the good. Sometimes it’s good to take a pause and work on the existing skills. During the summer I had only one group lesson per week instead of 2-3, and then few weeks without lessons at all. but tried to practice by myself. And eventually I had good boost! My coach even asked me after “vacation” if I took private lessons 😅 because she was really impressed by my progress) And I hope you will find good new job and will be able to take as many classes, as you want. And maybe find new coach :) good luck!
Thank you, I really appreciate your kind thoughts! ☺I'm looking forward to next year and cleaning up skills I already know, but not yet proficient at!
Hello, Jen! I've already started to worry, glad to see you again. Hard times may happen, hope they don't last long. It's so nice to see a one-foot 3-turn! This is a great step forward! At one moment I decided I had mastered all kinds of 3-turns and could move on. But now I'm back to polishing my 3-turns because I need them to be better, much better to connect them to other steps and elements.
Thank you! My spirits are up, but now I'm distracted by job hunting too. 😅I feel like 3-turns are my current nemesis and I'm struggling with them as much as I did with Crossovers. One of the adult skaters I talked to in Freestyle 1 was still working on her 3-turns too, so I guess it's going to be like this for a while for us 😜
I'm also a 41-year old mom of two who started skating last year! Thanks for sharing your journey... its definitely harder at our age lol. Sorry to hear about your job situation and fingers crossed for you. Are there any outdoor rinks where you live? Here in Canada I am super lucky to have a free outdoor rink close to my home in winter and I can't wait for it to open.
Yes, it for sure takes us longer to learn skating, haha! There are nearby outdoor rinks this time of year, but they actually cost more to skate at than the indoor rink 🤷♀
never to old to rock :-] i am older, and still trying
I love that! I'm trying my best as well! ☺
