    It is about staying young forever. Never grow old. The fantasy of youth. Nightwish lyrics are done very poetic. The empty crib of Peter Pan implies that the boy has grown up and is still living the dream of youthful enthusiasm forever. Next I would suggest the opener from this show, "Dark Chest of Wonders" or a heavier one, "Romanticide" both from the same show. Loved it guys. My man with the red Hoodie had it right "goosebumps". We love to refer to these reactions from Floor's amazing vocal acrobatics as a "Floorgasm". A type of skin orgasm which is triggered by unexpected emotional vocal and musical arrangements. The scientific term is "Frisson".
    Frisson is of short duration, lasting only a few seconds Typical stimuli include loud passages of music and passages-such as appoggiaturas and sudden modulation-that violate some level of musical expectation. During a frisson, a sensation of chills or tingling is felt on the skin of the lower back, shoulders, neck, and/or arms. The sensation of chills is sometimes experienced as a series of 'waves' moving up the back in rapid succession and commonly described as "shivers up the spine". Hair follicles may also undergo piloerection (goosebumps).
    Rhythmic, dynamic, harmonic, and/or melodic violations of a person’s explicit or implicit expectations are associated with musical frisson as a prerequisite. Loud, very high or low frequency, or quickly varying sounds (unexpected harmonies, moments of modulations, melodic appoggiaturas) has been shown to arouse the autonomic nervous system.
    Floor is an expert at achieving this response in fans of Nightwish. See you soon boys! Peace. 🤘🤘🤘✌

    Welcome to Nightwish, every song is different, Tuomas the keyboardist/founder/composer writes 90-95% of all music and lyrics. Floor Jansen the lead singer was still not a full member during this show, she is now, and she can sing anything, any genre, trained in opera and many other forms of singing, and she is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard. I hope you guys continue your Nightwish journey, this band is just unbelievable. I discovered them and Floor last year on this concert, and now after a year. I can't hardly listen to other bands, no other band compares. Anyway great reaction, and I suggest since you want to feel the magic of this magical concert, you should open with the opening song at Wacken 2013, Dark Chest of Wonders. One of the greatest openings I ever saw, keep in mind, at this point Floor had only been with these guys 10 months and was still considered a stand in vocalist. She owns the stage and this crowd of 82,000, most whom had never heard her with their band Nightwish before this show.

    Tuomas (keyboard) is the writer of the lyrics and composed the music inspired by the 1982 movie "the snowman".
    Thinking how it would feel to fly with the snowman through the most wondrous landscapes he wrote the song.
    His words are:" the meaning of our very existence is created through stories, tales and imagination.
    They are at the very core of humanity.

    This is LIVE (recorded directly from the mic) and you can even hear her gasping for breath in verse 2 after she was windmilling a bit too intense at the second time...that's why her movements were so sparsely during Ghost Love Score as she knew she had to sustain her breath for the finale after already performing for 10 min.
    After all how much stamina that woman still had at the end of that show, you can see at their closing song of the show "Last Ride of the Day" where she let it all out and left you with the impression she could have sung for another hour at that level (an alternative cut from the footage that was filmed and left away, would be gold).

    • @Mystress1980
      @Mystress1980 Před 3 lety +3

      In all fairness, singing in open air could have just as easily been the reason for her breathing fluctuation. The slightest shift in wind can literally suck the air out of a singer without warning and even cut a note short for even the most seasoned pro. The science of it is pretty cool, and gave me an even bigger appreciation for singers who manage to sound good at these outdoor festivals.

  • @everdreamcosplay
    @everdreamcosplay Před 3 lety +44

    The general theme of the song is about embracing the wonder of childhood, those imaginative stories we love and remember. "The core of all life is an unlimited chest of tales". Stories and storytelling are a fundamental part of being human, mixed with the idea of Neverland, never losing childhood's wonder and innocence (which is a theme Tuomas often returns to). To me, the empty crib of Peter Pan is because he has left the mundane world behind for his adventure to Neverland. Alice followed the madness down the rabbit hole. We search for a world we create, filled with magic, "within a snowflake on our palm". And poets and artists take us there.
    Edited to add: Tuomas is a big reader, and novels and other works of literature often inspire and feature in his lyrics.

    They use a backing track with a whole orchestra and choir. Would be a bit hard to take them all with them on tour. So the flute etc are not coming from the keys. Symphonic metal, baby! The combination of the orchestra and the band's instruments make it sound huge and dramatic. Add Floor's voice and a choir to that and man.... How can anyone not fall in love with this band.

  • @TheZachh
    @TheZachh Před 3 lety +29

    The guy on keys is Tuomas Holopainen. He's the bands founder and writes all the music. He's considered the Metal Mozart. As for the keyboards, he is using KORG Kronos, Karma and N364 keyboards. Every tour he has a themed prop built around the keyboards. In this case, the tubes are simply a facade that represents this tours theme which was imagination. From the album "Imaginaerum"

    Off course all band members perform live, but it needs to be said that a part of their massive sound is coming from a backing track on which the orchestral parts and choir are audible. The orchestra and choir on itself are real, but you simply cannot tour and share the stage with all these extra musicians.
    But again, all band members play and sing live and very, very well indeed.

    The 'pipes' are just a set. Tuomas is never a man to just have a stock keyboard stand - it has a steampunk vibe that goes with his look. When you hear flute, it probably is flute as they use backing tracks recorded for them by high-end orchestras and choirs. It is a great way of bringing the ambitious studio recordings into the live arena that allows these great musicians to ramp it up to 11/10.

The more you listen to this bands music and learn about its history the more in tune you will become to some of the symbolism Tuomas uses. Tuomas loves childhood memories and fantasy..... A lot of the lyrics and his songs and the songs itself come from his vivid imagination of childhood and then he weaves in fantasies also....... This song is not about a nightmare however there are a couple darker songs that night wish has and they are some of the best songs that he has ever written...... Strap it in boys because it only gets better from here!!!!! Greetings from New Jersey!!!!!

    This whole concert is great. When you're ready to hear her growl, check out Yours Is An Empty Hope, Wembley.

    The "Tubes" is a false front where Tuomas hides the wine he drinks during the concert. It's "Nightwish" wine BTW and is almost impossible to find a bottle of it, but it's bottle in California.

    It is a Symphony Orchestra you are hearing. The pipes are a prop to mask all the keyboards.

    Guys, the "flute" (probably a piccolo) you hear is not coming from the keyboard. Tuomas, keyboardist, composes orchestral/choir backings for Nightwish songs. These are performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded for playback during the concerts. While Tuomas does play synthesizers, when you hear flutes, oboes, cellos, french horns, etc., they are very real orchestral instruments.

    The Nightwish Army is loving you guys. You are right to ask questions. I have been following this band for 4+ months and I am just now beginning to understand the words and meanings of the songs, and many times I am wrong, kind of. The music and the melodies and the vocals are what hooked me. The lyrics are now taking over!

    The guy on the keys is the creator of most of these songs :) . Funny that you mentioned "Phantom of the Opera" because they did that song with their first singer Tarja, you should check it out

    The empty crib of Peter Pan is to with the fact the lost boys from Peter Pan are children who are unclaimed or lost. The empty crib is the bed left behind at the home of his parents. It's rather poetic and quite sad.

    That bass is a Warwick Buzzard (look at it’s shape). Originally designed by John Entwistle of The Who. Marco, the bass player here, is an exclusive artist with Warwick.

    Nightwish and Epica are the 2 Symphonic Metal bands that you can count on to bring it every time also fun fact at Epica's Retrospective concert Floor Jansen sang with Simone on Sancta Terra and an operatic song Stabat Mater Dolorosa

    Hey guys!
    I'm only 0:52 in, and I'll say this much: If you think GLS is "like a movie," you ain't seen anything yet. Both Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show On Earth can also be considered "Nightwish movies," lol, even though they have made documentaries and the Imaginarium movie.
    By the way, a couple of things:
    1) Floor's performance of Storytime is entirely her own -- she added the last bit of vocals in this performance on her own, which aren't in the original track.
    2) The drummer, Jukka (pronounced "yoo•ka") Nevalainen, stepped down in 2014, making his departure permanent in 2015, because of a three-year running battle with insomnia. Personally, out of all the drummers I've ever watched, he is my favorite, because he shows emotion, and he is damn good at what he does. Rarely do you get to see a drummer get into the music as much as a vocalist or other instrumentalist.

    Greets from Scotland, great reaction, nothing less than expected for your early experience of Nightwish, you have a new subscriber. Now you have the Nightwish army on board, if you like you could add another army called the Wolfpack, these are avid fans of a Japanese band called LOVEBITES, their musicianship can only be described as "too good to be true" they have two brilliant lead guitarists Midori & Miyako who are the most dynamic duo playing today and no one harmonizes as well as they do and at these speeds, Miho a powerful bass player who anchors the band effortlessly, the tiny thunder machine Haruna on drums and the soaring voice of ex R&B/Soul singer Asami, They're resurrecting retro style 80's heavy/power metal while adding their own melodic signature and positive, uplifting & self emitting lyrics, great power ballads too, they also sing in English(slight Japanese accent), trust me you will not be disappointed, preferably watch them LIVE they're unreal, best I've seen in 30 years. Try this as an introduction ..but be warned ..strap yourself in🤘 LOVEBITES / Holy War [Live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020] > video link czcams.com/video/bgAxpEpEcno/video.html
