Is it possible to use this laptop totally open in 360 degrees (tablet mode) and put it with the screen down on the desk and the keyboard up, connect it to a big display / monitor so it does work as a keyboard? Will it work?

I'm looking into getting this laptop for music production and light video rendering with softwares such as Adobe After Effects, on the HP website it currently says that there is an i7 model with 12 ram, I was wondering if you could confirm if that is an actual configuration on this laptop. I have that same laptop now, 8gig ram, i5-6200u , and every game I throw at it,it plays them flawlessly, GTA 5 on mine now ,NFS rivals and more games and it plays them very well,no Lag's.

Hi I've just purchased this laptop with the i7, I have a couple of questions, because of the HD screen the text size is tiny In say iTunes etc, but when I upscale them to say 125 or 150% the text gets blurry, I've also tried changing the resolution but they are all blurry apart from the Hd setting, also how do you get to the graphic setting to cool the screen tone down? i bought this hoping to use it to create digital art with pressure sensitive stylus for digital drawing and painting. the stylus i bought on amazon(meko high sensitive stylus) does not work very well(using sketchable app) Ive searched answers and it seems this machine has a different type of touch screen and i need a "Capacitive Stylus" Do you know how i can do easy good digital art with this laptop or do i need to return it and get something else? thanks!
1) When the laptop is converted to the tablet mode ( means completely folded ) then does any onscreen keyboard appear for use ?
2) If it enters tablet mode does all the applications function the same way as in the normal laptop mode? i use pretty much of excel and other 3rd party softwares so have a doubt the tablet mode might reject the app from working.

1) Yes - the on screen keyboard pops up, but it can also be accessed in the bottom right corner by the time/date.2) Yes, just about. You can go into settings and configure if you want certain things to function differently in Tablet Mode.

When you say it’s digital pen capable, which pen are you referring to because I recently purchased the HP Active Pen and it did not work as it isn’t compatible. I found only the Adonit Jot Pro would work. This is basically just a stylus and not digitized which is what I would prefer my pen to be in order to use this envy for what I really purchased it for

I have this laptop. It's not working anymore. It's completely dead. I took it to a service center but they told me to change the motherboard. The power supply is ok but motherboard is dead. Can you tell me where can I find the motherboard (secondhand is preferable)?

Question for anyone who has had this computer for more than a year. Have any of you had issues with the cooling fan and/or hard drive? I am on my second HP Envy x360 and have had issues with both right out of the box. At first I thought maybe it was just an issue with the drivers, so I updated all the drivers. However, that did not work. The first one I had to have the cooling fan replace three times and then the hard drive crashed (most likely because it was overheating). They replaced the hard drive and a few weeks later was still having the same issues so they ended up replacing the computer. However, now I am having the same issues with the new one.
My hd got really slow, so I bought a Samsung SSD 870, now it is zippy. I cloned the hdd to it. No crashes or cooling fan problems.
Does the little sticker say Intel core i5 inside? On it I'm trying to figure out the year and charger for my lap top it looks similar to this one but I'm sure it's this one.... But yeah also if you know of any way to get the the charger I bought a charger for it but it wasn't the right one.
Hi! Great review! I've been thinking about buying this laptop ever since I saw it in person in November at Best Buy. I've seen it 4 times in person and I still can't decide. I've never owned a laptop before and I've never been really hands on any laptops out of a store. I currently have a 2009 HP desktop and I really want a laptop. So my question is... How do you like the hinges on the laptop, especially when it's completely shut closed (screen flat on the keys position)? There's a noticeable gap between the screen and keyboard near the hinges area. It kinda bothers me, so I was wondering what your thoughts are. Do you think that opened gap could quite possibly be a problem for the screen and cause it to crack? That's what I've been thinking a lot about. I hope to hear your response. Thanks in advance. :)

The only way i in my honest opinion to significantly damage (i.e. crack) the display is when you drop the laptop in tablet mode face down on a hard surface. The hinge is incredibly solid and well-built. It makes no creaking sounds whatsoever and rotates very smoothly

Should I go with the HP ENVY x360 - m6-w103dx which has the 6th generation Intel Core i5-6200U or the HP ENVY x360 - m6-w101dx which has the 5th generation Intel Core i5-5200U? Thanks again. :)
+Christina Jones How big is the difference in price between those two models? If it's less than $100, I would say the 6th generation Intel is the way to go
Hello Muwen360! Thanks for the review as I was considering to buy this laptop and this video is the most near to the model I am going for i.e.m6-w105. Well do you happen to know if these models feature same quality or not? There are confusing amount of versions on the envy x360 and for me other versions are horrible except this one. I didn't know first about envy x360 being so varied and I was disappointed by other videos where I saw the poor plastic chasis which gets worn off. But now I know to differentiate them with the model and the hinge :-)
And well this m6-w100 is best on look and built. But I wanted to ask what the keys are made of? Plastic or metal? And I am worried about the touchpad which in some reviews of other models, like envy 14, I saw being so flimsy and poorly fit that you could see the gap and the touchpad fluttering. :-( And what about the built? Though you barely mentioned about it being aluminum brushed, but I think you should have given more emphasis to impression on look, feel and beviour on encountering the device live rather than performances and inside view. And if it was about performace and iniside specs I think videos are a waste of bandwidth and which could be done better in articles rather than videos.
+navin rai The keys are plastic coated with aluminum painting. The TouchPad is perfect so no worries. Thank you for your suggestions and I will definitely improve next time. The laptop feels premium and well built but just don't expect it to be MacBook Pro quality since I got it for $585 on Black Friday.

+Abhi Jayanty Deep travel. Placement is excellent and is very durable. It starts to run loudly during video-editing and gaming. It's a good laptop. I recommend you to try it out at a store to get some hands-on time

+Cass1465 There's flex but unless you intentionally hit the keyboard that hard, you won't see any. I think it'll be a good replacement. But to be completely sure, check it out at Best Buy

rarely gets hot, unless you leave it in a backpack. The computer is whisper quiet.
+daswerck91 it depends what you use your laptop for, if you use high end apps or even games like csgo then you will experience fan noise and heating but otherwise it should be prety quiet

Ferus Photos at best buy their wacom bamboo ink pen worked on their 3 models. Amd fx, i5, and i7. This laptop might be different. I will find out tomorrow if this stylus works with it.
Only passive (capacitive) Stylus ! That's actually the big drawback from that 2-in-1 laptop. However, there seems to be capacitive stylus with Bluetooth for pressure sensitivity and palm detection, but I've only seen those advertised for the Mac line of portables. In short, for using an active Stylus you'd have to look at the HP Specter x360 line. Otherwise, there are a lot of capacitive (passive) stylus that are compatible with the Envy x360 (most if not all of them are). Look for microfiber tips rather than rubber...
I haven't tried the followings (simply using an old and cheap rubber stylus), but since I'm shopping for one, here's my take :
- Lynktec TruGlide Stylus
- Adonit Jot Pro Fine Point Stylus
- MEKO High Precision Series (2nd Generation) 2 in 1 Disc Stylus Styli with Fiber Tip
- Adonit Jot Dash 3
- Ventev Stylus Pro
- etc...
Ferus Photos the jot pro works nicely with it. The newer models will work with a wacom bamboo ink stylus bit the older models like the 15-w2 won't. I haven't tried an active stylus yet. It looks like it has an active screen.

+Paul Catterton It takes about 10~15 seconds now. It was the Windows 10 Update and HP Update conflicted. I reset the PC then update the Windows first and later HP drivers.
i got a similar laptop and hat to take it back a week after and get it replaced because the screen auto rotation was faulty. i just got the replacement two days ago and have to take this back also due to a screen glitch. so great. im done with these computers

You'd have to buy a capacitive stylus, like the Wacom Bamboo Tip. It won't give you multiple levels of sensitivity but that is what you are stuck with with capacitive touch screen devices like this.
Is the laptop all metal construction? Or just the palm rest is brushed aluminium?

2. Weight. i see its about 200-300 grammes heavier than Macbook pro 15 yet has visibly more capabilities, would you consider this a heavy laptop?
3. Heating issues? wifi connection drop issues? BSOD crashes anything??
4. In future do you see the possibilty(and ease) to swap that 5400rpm drive to an SSD 2.5 inch? are there any special consideration while looking into an SSD replacement regarding OS install etc?

i have the exact same laptop but mine has 256gb ss and only 4gb ram, it's pretty heavy but in a carrying case it would be no problem to use it on the go!
Yuno FkinGasai Thanks. i bought this laptop three above model i mentioned in june 2016. have been using rather misusing it and it's quite a good laptop. recently did a complete factory reset and it's totally new! windows 10 after months of updates requires a clean install like ever other windows before.

I was informed by HP that this issue is more than likely caused by recent driver updates. You would have to uninstall your most recent audio drivers to determine as much though.

When I first got it the Wi-Fi chipped in and out, but you can use HP Assistant to identify the problem. I fixed it and the Wi-Fi is wonderful - faster and stays connected.
