Nice video. I would recommend a 6 foot polespear over the shorter ones. Another gift idea is to take a niece or nephew out fishing, even if just for bluegill.
Thanks buddy! I figure it is hard to think of things to get for us outdoors folks during the holidays. But seasoned foragers always appreciate replacement gear (hooks, line, sinkers, crab snares, wool socks, rain pants, rain jackets , etc.) and new foragers likely need to build their foraging kits depending on what they are planning to get into/go out for.
What a totally killer channel. This video was a good idea. I might make a list of all these books. I’d really like to learn everything there is to learn about coastal foraging. I subscribed to your email list. Keep cranking the vids I’ll be binging on them soon.

I might have missed it but another good thing to pack in the backpack is a small first aid kit! Disinfecting ointment and bandages maybe even a tourniquet but that may be a little excessive. I’ve had a few tumbles in the woods or on the coast and could have used a good bandage
I still remember reading the story behind the cover of "All the Rain Promises and More" as a kid. He was at a performance and ended up doing some impromptu mushroom hunting around the concert venue iirc. I need to get myself a new copy - don't know what happened to the one my parents had.

some very good ideas on gifts-especially the Opinel knives. I usually have one in a pocket , but in the forest, a Finnish Ahti Metsa is the EDC. I've used it on elk, deer, bear and fowl, but the Opinel excels at cutting vegetables for the pot. I'm really looking forward to the mushroom videos, but it's a little too late for that-we're already snowed up.

Thanks for reaching out and for the positive feedback! Are you currently living in Germany? There is a very strong bushcraft and foraging community in northern Europe and I am sure there are some great forums online that you could find that might allow you to connect with some folks in your area. You could also start small and reserve a campsite at a local campground for the springtime somewhere with some hiking trails. You can assemble some new or used camping gear depending on your budget in the meantime and that can include a three season sleeping bag, an inflatable sleeping pad, a tent, hiking boots, wool socks, Mora fixed blade belt knife, day pack, water bottle, ferro rod and a simple cooking setup. A headlamp (and a lantern for the table for cooking) is not a bad idea as well. I would recommend car-camping or a bicycle-in camp for the first night and practicing some cooking on a propane or butane stove (also good gear to have). A cook set needs to include a spoon, fork, bowl, pot/Billy can, and pan. A small cutting board can also be useful. Learning the basics of cooking an outdoors breakfast, lunch and dinner brings significant confidence and comfort in the woods. Hope this helps get your wheels turning! -Cheers from CA

Awesome! The best months for mushrooms on the coast on a wet year tend to be November and December though we get nice flushes from late October to early February on some exceptionally wet years. The further north that you go, the longer the season lasts and some mushrooms will also fruit in the late spring and summer in the Sierra's as the ground gets wet with melting snow.

They are one of the best knives for the price imho. The carbon steel ones work great as a striker for flint and steel too.
