The payoff to the deer dying is when Vegeta gets hit with the Spirit Bomb and saying "What smells like deer"
41:52 In Goku's defence, the original reason in the Japanese dub and in the manga is that he wanted to see Vegeta get stronger and fight him again. He even acknowledged that there was a low chance that Vegeta would become good and that his desire to spare him was selfish.
Additionally, Toriyama himself has said Goku is not a hero type character. He ends up in the role of hero but, only because he desires to fight strong opponents and those guys typically end up being evil.
I remember in the Kai version they made that reason he spared him too
@@michaeldaniels642 It's still wildly out of character for how he's written, he only gives them mercy if he thinks they're neutralized as a threat in the future, outside of that he's very open to outright killing dangerous villains or ones that were involved in the deaths of those close to him especially when he's not the one actually doing it. He quite literally kills for less than what Vegeta was responsible for, and if you take the original Dragon Ball events into account he committed literal genocide with less provocation.
In fairness out of universe Toriyama's hands were tied by the raving fanbase the genocidal prince he had created to be the worst person he could think of had accrued to the point he basically had to keep Vegeta around, hence why Frieza is in many ways just Vegeta but even worse.

I love how complementary the commentary is between Kaiser, Lani and Taka to one another, but also how heart to heart the conversations are on wording, badly aging jokes, and hindsight.
I'm consistently amazed at Kaiser's editing skills and comedic timing. There's plenty of iconic jokes in DBZA, but Kaiser's ability to sell it really "made" the series for me.

Honestly, being more loved than Dragon Ball Evolution is _not_ a high bar to clear.
It's moreso the fact that Dragon Ball Evolution was a professional production with a budget while DBZ Abridged is a fanmade parody posted to CZcams for free which makes the contrast especially hilarious. The fact that a group of friends on the internet fucking around were able to make a more widely beloved product than a serious movie adaptation production is pretty embarrassing.
That bar buried in the ground, right?

My friend with dwarfism has always told me he doesn't mind the "M" word, but he actually hates the term "Little person", he finds it demeaning. I still just say he has dwarfism as to be respectful, just an anecdote.
I've never actually known someone with dwarfism, so I never realized it was an accepted term to use till today.
Being a dwarf is also just cooler than being a “little person”
Being a dwarf would cause many health issues, plus people looking down on you (no pun intended, really).
But if i would be dwarf still being me, focused on fantasy so freaking much...
I would be very proud of being legitimately able to be called a dwarf, because fantasy dwarves are amazing and my favourite humanoid fantasy species
Give it time. Eventually Dwarf will be considered offensive. Cuz for context, I'm pretty sure "handicap" is now deemed offensive by "the people who decide these things". No clue what it is now, but handicap and disabled "give off the impression of being lesser." Like, oh, I'm not abled? Like, seriously, anything CAN be deemed insensitive if people just decide it is.
@@handgun559 it really does come down to people will find a way to tease with anything. In my parents days, the R word was the proper way to talk about mentally handicapped people, but people tease each other, and then kids tease each other, and we move mountains to move on to the next word.
Personally, i think both we should chill out about a word if people use it as a description and not to mock, but also realise the change will inevitably happen and theres nothing wrong with moving on.

Gohan's tail growing back isn't too much of a plothole, considering Goku lost and regrew his tail multiple times in Dragon Ball.
It was cut off by Yamcha and Puar at Pilaf's castle, it grew back during his fight in the tournament.
Then it was pulled off by Grampa Gohan during Baba's tournament and grew back during Goku's solo travels up until the King Piccolo arc.
And finally, it was permanently removed by Kami during the timeskip.
Yea it was just never really explained in DBZ though, so people like Taka who never watched OG Dragon Ball had no idea.
Being called "professional" is probably the biggest compliment Dragonball Evolution has ever received.
I know, Nappa is a classic. But for me, your Cell voice, is just the peak. You and Littlekuriboh got the best DBZ englisch villian voice (grew up with the German dub)

@@The_Blue_Otaku why vegeta's tail never grew back, or gohan's after the saiyan saga?
@@blaze4111 the literal answer is that toriyama got tired of drawing them because of how much they over complicate things by how much they began to get in the way and have 100% overstayed their narrative welcome and use.
This isn’t even a diss at toriyama being lazy or anything, agree or disagree with it, it makes sense tbh.
Given the direction the story was going, while there are a lot of cool hypothetical concepts for it, the literal direction the franchise actually took didn’t really leave much room for stuff like the apes anymore.
It was initially mainly used to be a Chekhov’s gun or bomb under the table to build suspense and be used as an obstacle and an ally for the heroes and villains to utilize
But the second becoming “big, mindless and strong” became meaningless was the day the series became more about just being strong and having power levels can counter most things
Ntm how we literally almost never see night again for very long after this arc, not only that but we now have characters that can make moons with their palms which kinda ruins the tension over something that’s supposed to be a surprise
So having the trump card just be “it’s strong” kinda wears off in a sea of other stronger guys.
The in-canon answer is...
There isn’t one-
It’s just one of those concepts that could probably work really well in other series but just doesn’t in dragonball anymore, like being a dual pistol wielder or something.
Sometimes it annoys me when he does this for much worse reasons, but in this case I can honestly respect.
He can either keep shoehorning in an aspect of a story he doesn’t like with diminishing returns that’s already overstayed its use.
...or just stop using it.
Tbh I wish he kept this mentality with other parts of the series, and even some of the times he DID utilize it, he wound up just dropping cool concepts before they even began, so you really can’t win either way lol
I think Taka’s moreso confused on how it just randomly reappears in the middle of the fight
It growing back is the normal part, it never being seen was what was odd.
With all the thrashing and fighting around, you’d think it’d have fallen out or something by now but it just only happens to show up conveniently right when the story needs Gohans to become an ape, ntm how Gohan never simply stopped to stare at the giant glowing orb in the sky while doing all this fighting and flying even for a bit.
I guess it bugs people because the vegeta fight is one of the more tighter written plot lines in the story so it’s a lot harder to buy something spawning like this.
I won’t even lie and pretend this is the only time toriyama’s used that gimmick of randomly adding in some random element to a story for tension that was conviently never mentioned or used beforehand despite how it would’ve been useful to in the past.
too many "fans" never even watched it. thats why they "never seem to remember".
So, in Tree of Might Turles brings up that if you press down on a certain point in a Saiyans back their tail grows back instantly. Lani brought up in the Christmas Tree of Might commentary that Vegeta at some point might have triggered that response kicked Gohan in to the rocks. Cause when you see Gohan before the rubble falls on him, he doesn't have his tail but when you see him again, poof. Tail ex machina.

Considering Yajirobe has a power level of 970 at this point he is actually really strong. He could probably be one of the strongest humans if he wasn't so lazy and actually applied himself.

Still have to wonder why nobody brought up the fact that, even if Nappa hadn’t killed Piccolo, they couldn’t have wished for immortality for another year anyway. They’d be stuck waiting for a year, and you know Freeza would have come to call if he didn’t go to Namek for their Dragon Balls first.
Bcs its a joke and i dont think its brought up in the original
@Info 1 it is brought up in the original, Vegeta connects Piccolo's presence on Earth with what was, at the time, rumours that the Namekians make wish granting orbs, even concluding that if he died they'd be inert, he just considered it no big loss if Piccolo died because they could always just go to Namek to use theirs
Taka doing the ghost Nappa song on point towards the end brought up feelings I didn’t know I had, loving these commentaries!
It's adorable how Taka fanboys over everyone's performance. Very wholesome content 😁
I love watching these, from all three of them. They have nothing but praise for each other. Bros being bros.
The Saiyan tail growing back actually does have precedence in the series. Back in Dragon Ball Goku's tail grew back at least once, maybe twice, during a high stress situation. The one I remember is during his fight with Roshi at his first tournament.
It wasn't against Roshi, it was against Giran, the Dino dude with the gum.
"It's... 1006. Kick his ass Nappa." is the best version of that joke ever made.
Vegeta look! Imma firing my BWAAAAH!!!!!” Fucking gets me!
The real reason season 4 never happened is because then Baba would have had to have actual lines.
Lani's galic gun *fire* is definitely the best sounding line in most of this early show
Something you said sounded kinda like the Dartz voice, and I had forgotten you played Dartz. "Wheeahpowndebungae we will rule de world maaaaigne" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't think I ever quite appreciated that Krillin both ready and actively in-motion to kill a man with a katana, but also stopped instantly on Goku's request.
Also imagine how differently Dragonball would have gone if Krillin had just gone ahead with it.
So, I like that Goku’s reason for letting Vegeta go in DBZA is different. It’s funnier than his legit canon reason of “being a better fight later”, but then Gohan brings up the canon reason when he snaps against Cell and refuses to kill him because “he’s not done ripping the wings off this butterfly”. It’s a small nitpick, and it doesn’t bother me a lot, but it always comes to mind when I rewatch episode 10. After all, Gohan’s other two points (“I should let him power up to 100% to teach him humility” and “I should throw him a goddamn Senzu bean and let YOU fight him”) actually happened in the DBZA canon.
Vegeta's satisfied smirk after killing Nappa will always be priceless to me.
That Guru music thing Taka mentioned... They should just do that as a fun project.
16:56 Love Vegeta's and Goku's hair animation as there hair is blowing in the wind.. That's hype AF
I know who was broadcasting! Dr. Gero accidentally set his nanoborg insect drone thingy to broadcast on a wide spectrum instead of just to his lair.
I still think of my favorite jokes from episode 9 is the bit where vegeta yells out 9 minutes 18 seconds, 9 minutes 18 seconds and that's the exact point in the video where nappa dies lol
In the same boat. In retrospect, I was among the fans that wondered if the show would drop in quality after Nappa's death, but I think they did a great job essentially making Goku replace Nappa as the moronic foil to Vegeta. These episodes absolutely cemented me as a viewer.
I like how lani channeled his inner Drummond for that galick gun.
"Arm doesn't bend that way! ARM DOESN'T BEND THAT WAY! *CRUNCH* OWWW NOW IT DOES!!!!"
I think this might be my favorite in-the-background line of the show. :D

The Princess Snake joke has a continuity error in it. The symbol on Goku’s back is supposed to be King Kai’s after he finished his training.
I'd like to point out that, while yajirobe was mostly useless in Z, he did climb to the top of karin tower with goku on his back. So he has done something before.

Ghost Nappa as a song has a special place in my heart; I met one of my best and closest friends because I had the ring tone and it went off by accident during an early morning school choir practice. He tracked me down after practice, and asked me if it was actually the Ghost Nappa ringtone. So in a roundabout way, DBZA and Taka introduced me to one of my best friends.
The tail thing was kinda a "as needed by the plot" kinda device back in Dragon Ball, coming back when Goku was in the merry go round gum, another time when he was swinging from a tree, and then disappearing when Kami mentioned that if Goku got rid of his tail, the moon could come back. Which overall is just weird, but it does explain some stuff, but it's Toriyama, it's probably all by the ass of his seat writing -_-

i just noticed, nappa was able to recognize piccolo's name, meanwhile vegeta has a lot of issues remembering names later on. i like to think nappa was the guy who remembered names for vegeta in this canon and would constantly remind him of them, like a smartphone
I don't think Vegeta struggles with names, he just believes using the names of non-Saiyans (with the exception of main Arc Villains like Freeza or Cell) is beneath him. So he purposefully uses basic or derogatory descriptors.
Seeing Taka have so much fun doing this, warms my heart. ^w^

Technically piccolo could have a child whenever he wanted. He could just vomit up an egg
Don’t think Gohan knew that yet
I don't think Piccolo can actually. His dad could for sure, but they have that whole dragon and warrior clan thing with Piccolo not being able to restore Shenron after fusing with Kami. I'm sure the egg thing would also apply
@@britipinojeff i think it was implied that doing so cuts a lot of your power, so it never made sense for him to?
he cant. only dragon clan namekians can do that. before splitting into Kami and Piccolo, the nameless namekian was a dragon clan. Piccolo took the birthing ability and kami got the dragon ball ability. but Piccolo Jr was reborn as a warrior type (like nail) to be stronger so he could kill goku, meaning he lost all dragon clan abilities.
@@saphcal that is very weird. Usually clan implies family, as in all dragon clan would be related or descended from eachother. Maybe caste would have been a better translation
This guy does a fantastic Nappa Impression.
Glad Nappa takes it in stride and isn't painfully crushed by the sorrow of the kid he helped raise murder him in sheer anger
I loved seeing vegetas hair flow at 16:50. It’s usually always static
The artificial moon technique is actually interesting in the manga. The technique requires a lot of energy, and Vegeta weighs the pros and cons when he decides to do it. In short, he'll be significantly weaker in his normal form, but the great ape form will allow him to crush Goku. And he's right! He had no way of knowing Yajirobe was sneaking around, much less that he'd both know to cut off the tail and be able to do so.
However, it's because of that decision to create the artificial moon that Vegeta is unable to wipe the floor with Gohan and Krillin--at least, not as effectively as he would have otherwise. Prior to that decision, Goku was the only real threat. And, of course, it further backfires when Gohan transforms.
That battle is so full of strategy, turnabouts, teamwork, and desperation that it's easy to see why it's probably the best fight in the series.
That beam struggle was influential in my formative years
So glad Taka pointed out the TTGL music, thought I was going crazy when Lani and kaiser didn't mention it XD
Having Lani and Masako do the Kamehameha scene mostly seriously was a game changer for this series. I love the nostalgia hit and how you guys kept doing that for the biggest moments of the series.
The ghost Nappa ghostbusters song is probably one of my favorite things to come out of the first 10 episodes.

I meant him being part of the team in the US but I glad he was able to get away Successfully from DBZA. Heck people in the chat didn’t know he work on it goes to show how much he’s made it as a Vtuber.
@@roxtechs he’s always been Canadian. He’s still like part of the team he just isn’t in the building often
I appreciate how Kaio-what got integrated into Death Battle too!!

"You must construct additional Pikkons!" is now a line I wish would appear if DBZA ever continued.
Pylons*

I love how all three of them sing along to head challah.
no joke I do that too. it's a good song
Something I realized recently. Even if the Saiyans won, and they managed to not kill Piccolo in the process ... they still couldn't use the Dragonballs. Because the heroes used them hours earlier to bring back Goku. So they would have had to either awkwardly wait around for a year or leave and then come back again 364 days later anyway.
Well, they might have stuck around to conquer the world, but they still would have to be careful to never let Piccolo or Kami get killed, or alert Freiza to what they were doing that whole time.

I can never understand why but seeing Goku bracing for the worst like that is always funny to me.
One of my favourite jokes you guys did, I think was actually during one of the TFS plays for Xenoverse. Nappa saying "but I'm perfect" as he gets disintegrated pops into my head every single time I see a character get hit by a big beam of energy.
In OG Dragon Ball, Goku grew his tail randomly too during the first Martial Arts Tourny. It didn't make sense then either granted, but it's least a consistent ass pull
