Children do that when they start learning writing. Fun fact: the lamed is coincidentally has a similar shape and have the same pronunciation as the korean L (final block), also the nun (N) and the mem (the cursive korean M, shaped like an N/R, looks like cursive hebrew M)

You can try ms-word or office libre. Those text editors usually provide a variety of Hebrew fonts, including cursive. Let me know how it works for you.
The letters you see in this video, at least in the print version, are pretty old, though not used continuously throughout history for many reasons. I am not sure this answers your definition of 'ancient'. Some of the similar looking letters are a bit difficult to read without paying close attention to their shapes. But most are quite distinct.
