Why I feel nostalgia with this song? Longing and some indescribable strange and depressing feelings are felt...

    My Kumu hula taught us a song very similar to this one. It's called "oiwi e". It was written specifically for us native Hawaiians being that we and the Maoris are close in both language and culture. LOVED IT (;

( insert Marae/ Place) changes :-) Nga iwi E is for all to sing
    TRANSLITERATION:
(Our tribe) is calling to the people
who have just set foot on this marae
Bring with you the memories of all our dead
and so many tears spilling forth nation-wide.
Look at our people working across the land
    spread out far and wide
Shaking is the ground, quivering is the sea.
Oh, the love and the pain within me.
The ground shakes and quivers, yeah!

We performed this at my year 6 teachers funeral when I was a year 12. RIP Miss Feetham. She will always be my favourite teacher and biggest supporter.

Te Rangimarie e karanga e te iwi e
Kua eke mai nei ki runga te marae e
Mauria mai ra e nga mate o te motu e
Me nga tini roimata e maringi whanui e
Titiro e nga iwi e nga mahi o te motu e aue ake nei e

@bellanita Peace, a call to everybody,
to those who have come to our meeting place.
It is terrible the deaths on this land,
My tears flow for all of them,
Look, may our combined work stand forever
Even through earthquakes and tsunamis befall us
    Let love prevail

Anyone know or remember a version of this which started out "Oruamo... (oruamo) Karanga e te iwi e... kua eke mai nei (mua eke mai nei) te mamai i ahau e" (I think) and had a slightly different beat/arrangement? My primary school teacher taught it to us in the 80s and it was awesome but now I can't find it anywhere!
