I think there is just one formula, that is honesty. even if you see old hit movies from 70s and 80s, you can notice one thing common that is protagonist with all the efforts and through alll the odds defeat the antagonist. People will not accept something that is nagetive, anti national because inherinetely we like goodness not the opposite. I believe there was an agenda going on in the bollywood thatswhy it was not doing well. Also, many wanted to just make money by giving something half heartedly.

Karan always gives such good interviews. He's so well spoken, so articulate. In this interview, he had such weird questions from the interviewer, who had his own personal biases to address instead of focusing on the big picture. I mean, to say things like "I don't think you would launch a fresh new talent" is just a more polite way of accusing him of nepotism, which he anyway gets so much on the internet. And things like "can bollywood and spirituality ever merge", or "can we see bollywood stars in a simple kurta" just proves his belief that bollywood is just a frivolous industry about flashy clothes. These questions are so annoyingly irrelevant! He was trying to be too smart, even talking over Karan and the other interviewer. But Karan still gave him exactly the interview he needed, manouvering intelligently through this maze of weird questions with so much grace. Love you Karan! The interviewer, you can do better, man. Cheers!
yea... u can be a tough interviewer w/o feeling the need to "one up" your subject. You need to be genuinely interested in what your subject has to say...
the worst part was when they kept asking if he wanted his kids to inherit Dharma... They are clearly laying a nepotism trap thinking he will fall into it.. Who wants to watch a combative interview unless its a controversial political figure...

I could watch interviews with Karan for HOURS! He is so genuine, funny, heartfelt and thoughtful with his answers and insight.
The first time I saw Rocky & Rani here in the US, I didn't know what to expect after seeing so many sub-par Bollywood films the past few years. But I love his work and directoral style so I had high hopes.
All I can say is WOW... from my white, middle-aged American woman's eyes, watching this film on the big screen was AN EXPERIENCE! Storytelling at its best with all the range of emotions and perfect blend of old and new Hindi stars, music, dances... and I LOVED the audience's reactions and involvement! I left the theater in awe of what I just watched and immediately went home to download the soundtrack!
After watching this film now *four* times in the theater (which is DEFINITELY the way to see this film!), I've added it to my Top 10 list of favorite Bollywood films! Hollywood films are nowhere near this level of excitement or storytelling -- and I've never had the desire to PAY to watch a Hollywood film more than two times at the theater, so that says a lot!
Thank you Karan Johar for putting your heart and soul into this film and sharing it with the world. Watching this film made me feel hopeful about Bollywood cinema again and provided the perfect entertaining escape into Rocky & Rani's imperfecly perfect love story for three hours!
Two requests:
1. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT seven more years to release another film! The world needs YOU and your films much more frequently!
2. PLEASE consider releasing the extended cut on the streaming services so you can share those extra 20 minutes that you cut out due to length. We need more Rocky & Rani!
As karan mentioned himself that he can buy any media and review , he is proving all those things which he said earlier despite his film being an average one.
You cannot buy audience I have watched the movie 3 times. Loved it. We like good cinema & not everyone is bought.

The people who are alarmist will always be there. If SSR had led to a confirmed murder with some big shot involvement, things could have been different. But, we knew then that SSR brouhaha was nonsensical. Thankfully, people have realised their mistake and SSR controversy has hopefully died. There will still be some conspiracy theorist and hate-mongerers and some sections of media who will continue be trouble makers. But, Bollywood has sustained this long, they are not all that sage people but they must be doing some things right. Have some basic common sense yaar.

Interviewer though formulaic is a gr8 word and quoted sarees ,etc. It was 1 song! There was nothing formulaic about Rocky Rani movie. Karan has shown tremendous grace by responding calmly to this arrogant interviewer. Dancing for parties for money, etc nepotism insinuation etc - interviewer deserved to be shown the door. Karan should not even engage with that lowlife.
I respect Karans passion for bollywood, but I am sorry but Rocky and rani is a terribly overrated film ....and as far as pathan and jawan, NO COMMENTS...but this interview is surely awesome.
In over 25 years and the foundation he has because of his father he has still not evolved has a person nor has a filmmaker. But one thing he does utilizing his privilege & power in marketing and PR that’s where his power lies and the reason he is still relevant and his movies too!
Awww so much you know about Karan Johar. His dad was by all accounts a good man and a flop producer. Karan's kuch kuch hota hai ushered in Dharma productions. His dad died and Karan built the company to its present stature. Problem is when people like you see achievers you have to pull them down

The snake comes out because you often tried to throw out outsiders, you tried to influence Aditya Chopra to not cast Ranveer and Anushka in band baaja baaraat. You are in an extremely influential position and you’ve often used this to favour some and make it difficult for others. This didn’t sit right.

The disappointing part is that there is not a single word for films like "Rocketry: The Nambi Effect", "The Kashmir Files", and "The Kerala Story". Karan Johar in this interview is mainly talking about his latest film "Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani" and going bananas about Quintessential Bollywood Masala Films. Entertainment is fine and taking nothing away from the great films Karan and other film directors have made so far, he and all Bollywood A-listers have to realize that there is a large section of people who are tired of such content. They want real and logical content. For example, Content that brings out the hidden truths of India, Content related to science and technology, etc., if brought to mainstream cinema, like the 3 films I mentioned at the start is very much the need of the hour. You cannot show content that you want to show, you have to show content which the audience wants to watch. Bollywood has to learn the pulse of India and its citizens. Bottom line, Bollywood needs to get its act together in terms of audience and deep subject research in today's time.
