- I'm recording this video to join the #GardenArtChallenge organised by @DenaTollefson. Gardens are complex, yet they are fascinating because they offer so much for artists. I wanted to take a somewhat unconventional approach in my response to the challenge. Rather than drawing/painting a garden as is, I wanted to select an object that reminds us of gardens and paint the object using the still life approach. One reason why I selected this approach is that I find still life drawing easier than drawing more complex things, like landscapes.
Selection of reference photos are quite crucial because they offer opportunities or restrict artists. I chose an image that had high contrast and shadows.
I am using a limited colour palette and mainly use different values to paint the watering can. As you can see, the shadow adds a lot of quality to the painting.

Drawing is a fantastic hobby, and I will share my sketching experience with you in this channel. The channel will feature both long and short videos of my sketches and painting exercises. The channel focuses on those who do not have any formal training in art, yet interested in building confidence. As someone with no formal education in art, my paintings will have many mistakes which you may see in your own work. However, our work will get better as we continue to practice. It would be hard to do any gardening without water. I feel like this is a really good choice for this challenge and is such a good symbol for gardening. I like the color palette as well.
