Welcome back guys! In today’s video I finally fix the last problem that was locking me out of 2nd gear at high RPM’s. Turns out my shifter cables were pretty stretched at 190K so I replaced them with 80K mile cables and I can now quick shift into second gear. Other things that may cause this are a bad CMC or Slave cylinder

Recently went all Hybrid Racing with trans rebuild. Detetion springs, cables, slave/master, short shifter etc. Difference is amazing.
Ive seriously got to do this, I miss second like 70% of the time😅
Yeah they cables are crucial
Sounds like a skill issue
I made an attempt today, failed and put the old ones back on, situation is worse, mechanic said I needed a clutch, clutch is trash etc. not saying the mechanic is wrong, but I kept telling them it was in the shift mechanism. Now that I’ve been screwing around with the cables and now 2nd likes to completely ghost half the time I know I’m right, but not a mechanic. The new clips is where I ran into issues, they’re like one or two thousandths too thick oddly
Gotta do this cause after missing 2nd makes you not wanna continue the pull😭
Exactly
Dude. Thank you so much for explaining the cable routing. I couldn't remember how they went and the install guide was absolutely useless in this regard. I tried so many different ways and none of them were working. Was ready to set the thing on fire and kick it in a lake. Lol.
Thanks for the video will look into changing out my cables having the same issues
No shit u even helped me fix my non si tank you
Just installed some today, good tip is install the shifter side first>then the brackets> then the transmission side or you're going to be fighting the tension of the cables when putting them on. The cable that go under the shifter is marked with a yellow dot and the other cable goes on the side. It took me 3 hours fighting the cables to figure this out.
I was doing this as well and everything is back in besides the brackets underneath the car. did you put the brackets on before or after routing the cables
@@JustThePizzaGuy i routed the cables inside connected it to the shifter removed the bolts took the shifter off. That release tension when routing the cables put the plate on then brackets on then the side on the trans, re installed the shifter after everything was in place.
@@slow6six620 how about that new bracket that came with the cables and the heat shield sleeves?
Cool, i got no headliner on mine right now either, lol anyways, i'mhaving the same issue so i'll try to change my cables as well!
Gear selector spring are also a night and day difference🔥🔥
Good to hear 👍🏻
Thanks boss. I’m selling my shell for $350 tomorrow after I made 2k outta it. ^~^ Let me
get the harness and cables off tomorrow and it’s gone!
🚀🚀🏎🏎🔥🔥🔥
ive gota do that right now, i just looked for prices and oh god >.>
Forreal $300 for 2 fucking cables is ridiculous
Mine made 3rd gear feel abit harder to get in after putting bushes in
First 5 seconds gave me ptsd, these transmissions are wack
Super wack bro I’m locked out of 2,4,6 rn🤦🏽♂️
@@killah-t-1453 lol u snapped the cable
Damn I know what I’m getting next 😈
Yessir you could upgrade to hybrid cables while you’re at it
I have to do this because second is annoying to get, 4th feels funny and reverse is made like 80% of the time. Obviously that cable is stretched.
I'm having the same issues with mine, I just bought cables see how it goes.
Same thing here 😢
I got a question when you changed the cables did the shift selector stop having play to you because at the moment my selector has a lot of play and not sure if I should change the cables and the selector or just the cables
If any one can help me out I’d appreciate it
What do you mean when you say shift selector
@@crackshotmcgee9588at 38 seconds in the video it shows the selector and it has play. On my selector it also has play aswell but I’m wondering if I need to replace the selector or just the cables or both
@Fb6scmn13 ah the gear selector. I'd buy the hybrid racing heavy duty transmission detent spring. It's only 20 bucks and may help you on the other end(inside the Trans, helps put more tension in the gear selector fork) but yes newer cables will clean up some of the slop on the gear selector but there will still be some. $300 for new cables.
@@crackshotmcgee9588 gotcha appreciate it bro do you recommend ktuned cables ?
I changed the shifter cable last week and I still have it hard shifting in 2nd and reverse. What’s the proper solution. Checking in from st lucia. Guys here aren’t too knowledgeable about my car
I have the same issue on my non si but I haven’t changed the cables. Did you find out the problem?
@@albertdavila6742 i basically got the entire cable changed… it works fine now
Yo wassup man idk if youll see this or if anyone will but both my sis get lockouts, 14&15 both 9th gen, just like yours i get lockouts on high rpms when shifting to second and aometimes third, this is for the 15, the 14 si is a lot worse but it literally only happens on high rpms, smooth ride up till we almsot red line then it locks, is this the same shi as the video basically?
I have the same issue. I rebuild a few transmission and from experience the problem is usually the synchro. Could be something else but in my case i know it is the synchro. Already got bushings, detent springs and selector springs. Haven't checked if cables are stretched but i just hit 40k miles on the dash.
Def need this will stretched cables make it grind going in reverse it doesn't always grind but will most of the time...shit stresses me out lol I sometimes try to go in other gears first to Maybe line them up but that don't always work either
Those are your synchros. Replacing cables will help it go in a bit more direct but the grinding will still happen every so often.
@@CivicSiFTW here lately I've been going into 3rd from neutral then 4th then reverse and it doesn't grind at all I even tried going straight to reverse and ittl start to want to grind so I'll do the 3rd 4rth reverse and ittl go right into reverse no grinds. What you think?
I have some ktuned cables I just have to install cuz even tho I hate it grinding in reverse i really hate getting Lockd out of second at high rpms when I try to pull from a stop.
Try 1st gear as you say roll forward quick and than go into reverse
reverse is a straight cut gear in these cars and it will grind going into it if you're moving
Just don't almost slice your fingers off when the flat head fails epically 😂😢 my poor fingers
Bro make some license plate frames ill cop
I’ve wanted to for a while I think I’m gonna pull the trigger
So why not show how to put it back together
Be nice if someone made a sequential shifter too
I know someone does but it’s not cheap
@@staticspeedproductions8087 well they make a full on dog box, but I’m wanting just the shifter, that way it’d be more familiar to me. I learned to shift on a motorcycle and just cannot get comfortable with an H-pattern, I can do it, but I don’t like it.
Smashing on empty gas? Bruuuh
Fuel sending unit gets trashed by running E85. This was on a full tank
more than half the issue is the CMC and slave
Yes but mine are already upgraded. My main issue were the stretched cables and my pedal keeps breakinf
