Christopher Walken Can’t Escape The "More Cowbell' Sketch | CONAN on TBS
/ teamcoco - Komedie
"I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell " Christopher Walken masterpiece.
When I'm done with you, you'll be wearing gold diapers
@@unkjason Haaa Haaa another masterpiece by Walken. Will Farrell's beer belly was a close second. I did like the show with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and John Belushi in the late 70's. Thank you for your excellent comment.
...and he said that was improvised on the spot. I assume you and most people under the age of ~80 understand that the very idea is funny because the cowbell in rock songs was such a cliche, along with the idea that there is a dedicated player with the ginger fro, 70's glasses and the bear belly. It's a cliche we love that was past due a teasing. Everything about the sketch, but that dope JF almost breaking, was pure gold.
This interview needs more Cowbell!
Amen! Shawn R., Mo-Mutt Music/Sacred & Secular
CW’s performance is what makes this sketch one of the best ever. He just nailed it as a producer from the 80s who believes in his abilities to create hits.
@@megaknight6958nerd
CW the channel?
I was an intern on SNL when they made that sketch. No one guessed its future fame.
I think Conan is 100% on the money about what the secret sauce of the sketch is haha
I read on Wikipedia that Will Ferrell submitted the sketch several times, the first time when Norm McDonald hosted. I love Norm, but don't think it would've been the same
Chrstopher Walken is an icon. One of the best, and most talented actors in my opiniion. He is a living legend !
comedy is random. Fallon broke character a lot but his inability to control his laughter was key to that bit.
You were on SNL? That’s awesome! What year was that?
Thank you for your contribution to Pop culture Unpaid Intern #3.
“I’m telling ya, fellas. You’re going to want to hear that cowbell!”
Conan hit the nail on the head. Anyone else on that sketch wouldn't have made it last this long. Some of you are younger, so you don't realize how many times Walken hosted, but he had reoccurring characters, and he always elevated any sketch. His voice, and mannerisms are what made it. Anyone remember _The Continental_ ?
What about the snl skit he did where was the civil war colonel....anal angus i laughed so hard i was crying that was such a classic Christopher Walken!
I was thinking " The Continental" before I was done reading your comment.😂 I don’t think it was the way he said cowbell. It was just his presence. He was already an SnL legend. Add to that, a hit song, the comedic genius of Will, the fact they were all cracking up, and the general absurdity of the sketch, and it’s hard to miss. Another Walken hit was "Colonel Ingus", that was some brilliant writing.😂
@@moleqle I love his Googly Eyed Gardener sketch. Not really funny on it's own, but with Chris Walken it's just dang funny!
Loved the Continental 😂
Nobody could have done The Continental like Christopher Walken. Nobody. How do you like my painting? I got it, at Target.
I think if you have a role THAT short, and it makes SO MANY people happy for this long, that is one hell of an accomplishment. It in no way takes away from his many amazing roles, it just adds to them in a way that people can very quickly reference and let him know hey - you made me so happy, and all these years later that moment still makes me happy.
Very well said! 👏
You can tell Christopher is genuinely over it, then when Conan tells him , “Nah, it’s not over”, it looks like he also genuinely acknowledges that it’s out of his hands, nothing he can do, enjoy it lol. 🙏👍
March 25th 2021 I am still laughing with More Cowbell sketch, I am from Querétaro, México.
😂😂😂
Absolutely its the way he said" I got a fever and the prescription is more Cow Bell"
Christopher Walken its because your career and persona is so Adored is absolutley why More Cow Bell remains Iconic thank your for years of Amazing acting that always moves us......You are that extra flavor we always looking for you are the more Cow Bell in every scene
I agree with all that, but you left out the "only" before "prescription is more cowbell."
Will Ferrell and Walken made that sketch immortal.
It's better than the real song...cuz of the more cowbell added
Will who ? I came here for the immortal CW.
I feel bad for Chris... clearly he's over it! I always thought Cowbell was great... but his real masterpiece was the Fatboy Slim video.
No, his true masterpiece was the mobster in True Romance. His evil persona was spine tingling.
Umm actually he is the greatest watch smuggler of all time
One of few interviews during this period for which Conan actually prepares his hair... showing real "hair respect" for Walken😂
Was that really him in the Fatboy Slim video? I once woke up at 3 am and that was on and I couldn’t believe it and went back to sleep and woke up later in the day thinking it was a dream.
Anything with Christopher Walken is a masterpiece! Even Country Bears haha
His glasses and the leather jacket ! And of course his performance...
Somewhere, Mandy Patinkin is going "Man, I know how you feel." 😆
If you’re talking about the Princess bride, it seems like he’d have to be more prepared for the fact that a movie role could become iconic then that three minute sketch role could.
The look on Walkens' face when Conan says "No, it hasn't, it's going to keep on running its course" is terrific. You can just see that he knows it's going to keep on going.
I want to run in to Christopher at a restaurant just so that I can say "Ya know, Christopher.... my salad could use some more.......... ............. pepper."
Conan is absolutely correct, “More Cowbell” is not over and it’s never going to be over. CW created an albatross and it will always be following him around. Sometimes “success” bites you on the a$$. At least Conan and the rest of us have gotten a good laugh out of it. CW, not so much.
He should be glad, otherwise it would be “For two years, I carried this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass.”
Yes, cowbell is the vampire that made him immortal.
Right… I’m sure his burial plot will be loaded with cow bells after he passes away
Conan is arguably the best talk show host
Not arguably. He is.
@@jordanfallis3539 Absolutely
Him and Graham Norton.
He’s right below Carson
You apparently never heard of Craig Ferguson
On his tombstone... I just need more cowbell
Surely..."i had a fever...& i didnt get more cowbell"?
People put cowbells on his grave instead of flowers.
When rock legend Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, you give him more Cowbell!
1:09 No it's not. We put our pants on one leg at a time just like you, except you make gold skits in them.
I believe what made it famous was the seriousness of the way he put it. I mean, it's funny sketch, but not so much that it would keep going on for that long, there was something very cool in the way he said it and the line is just so easy to use for anyone who wants to say that anything is missing something...
He needs cameo's in movies or commercials with just that line " I got a fever and the only cure is MORE cowbell "
Walken's Cowbell is the one thing I always needed in my life
To be fair another iconic cameo line is Man on Fire. "He's about to paint his masterpiece". Chills. You knew at that moment the people that took Dakota Fanning's character were in deep trouble. Creasy went from slightly aging can't let it go bodyguard with issues to a one man wrecking crew human terminator. With one line delivered in that patented Walken cadence, it completely changed the tenor of the film. A master at work.
I've probably watched this sketch more then 50 times since it came out, and I still can't get enough cowbell...so I'll watch it another 50 times.
The sketch became so famous because it is so fricking hilarious. I watch it every day, several times, and STILL laugh my ass off. Chris... Accept that you have made sooooo many people laugh in a time there is not much to laugh about!!! Thank you!
2020 needs more cowbell
Walken is still sharp. I was happy to see this. He seems like he's still the same wonderful Walken that he's always been. He's preserving himself well.
What preservative would he now be using? Formaldehyde?
@@boke75 A daily prescription of cowbell.
Christopher Walken The Legend
One of the best sketches I’ve ever seen up there with the parrot and 4 Yorkshiremen, a pity it’s no longer available on you tube.
czcams.com/video/cVsQLlk-T0s/video.html
Here you go.
It is though, I just watched it before finding this vid.
@MrChadsimoneaux can you post the link.. ive been looking for the whole skit and just keep finding videos that loop 40 seconds of material
@@chrisbarrett4378 I can find bits and pieces of it, but finding the full skit from start to finish is proving impossible.
Gotta love Chris Walken!!
It follows you around because people have a great affection for you from love of your amazing performances.
Funniest sketch on SNL ever!
That might be the my favorite SNL Skit ever.
Everyone was great on that sketch, but I agree with Conan...Christopher sold it! It was completely unexpected and the sincere way he said it really brought it home. LOL It's funny every time I watch it. If Mr. Walken and I would cross paths someday I wouldn't bring it up out of respect, but I'd surely want to. ;)
Walken is a living legend
The Cowbell will follow him forever 😂
Poor Chris his grave will probably have a cowbell
I think Christopher Walken has decided it doesn't need more cowbell.
I mean it isn't advised to overdose on your prescription right
Will Ferrell and Blue Oyster Cult deserve much credit for that skit too.
That sketch is so funny. I don’t remember it when it came out but saw it later and just die every time I do. ICONIC. There are so many factors that make it work, especially if your an 80s teen. Just hilarious.
I'm watching Dune 2 and I'm playing cowbell over when the Emperor (Walken) says "BRING ME MORE! BRING ME MORE!"
Christopher Walken is such a great actor. Anything he does turns to gold
I think his dancing skills are what really set him apart. No one, and I mean no one, can hold a candle to the man when he's hoofing it. And he's funny. A man for all reasons.
Everyone in that skit burts out laughing at some point, but Christopher walken. A real actor. One the best out there
It's Bruce Dickenson!!!
THE Bruce Dickinson
this man was in "the deer hunter" and "cowbell" follows him around... hilarious and yes, cowbell is forever.
Chris, in 50 years on my death bed, my last words will be… I need more cowbell.
What do you want on your tombstone? "More Cow Bell!!!"
Massively awesome sketch! Timeless!
And here I am, wearing a T-shirt with a picture of a cowbell and a drumstick, that says “More Cowbell”
It just shows what an AMAZING actor he is. 😁💙
It was so excellently presented in the SNL skit by Christopher Walker, and was made even better by how he never broke character, despite the other cast members losing it, because Will Farrell was so committed to his character. Kudos also to the wardrobe department for Will Farrell’s ridiculous shirt in the skit!
March 25th 2021 I am still laughing with More Cowbell sketch, I am from Querétaro, México.
I got today hypnotized by the way he said "cowbell". Can't think of the word in another voice.
Walken should be proud. That sketch is hilarious!!! Conan is right. Walken MAKES that sketch! 🤣🤣🤣
On the KC-135 there is a dimmer knob on the copilot's side that lights up one little panel... It's usually not labeled and somebody wrote "cowbell" near it with lines and arrows also labeled "more" in the brighter setting and "less" to dim the light. Lol.
That guy in Singapore is the real MVP
More cowbell is Christopher Walken's weapon of choice...
I’m not wishing death upon CW but damn can you imagine how many people will show up with Cow Bells at his Celebration of Life! This man is a Legend thru and thru….
I feel that sketch is one of the greatest roles Walken has done in his life. Chris, we love anything you do.
The Continental sketches from older SNL episodes was sooo hilarious!
Dude, I bet the cowbell is literally gonna follow him to his grave.
and beyond
*Cut to will Ferrell placing a cowbell on his grave in the future* 😂
He won't die of a fever. He has a prescription for that.
@@GLEEK12345678910 Which ironically is the very cure that will kill him. lol
He won't be in a coffin; it will be two giant cowbells welded together
Poor Walken is begging for mercy and he just keeps on getting hammered by the cowbell 😂
Greatest Guest Host ever on SNL. Ladies and Gentlemen, Christopher Walken.
The genius of this sketch was the fact that they exploited the cow bell that’s clearly in the background of the actual song.
When Chris talks about it and doesnt get why its so hilarous just shows how he was able to keep a straight face during the entire sketch.
I need more cowbell! Blue Oyster Cult. Three heroes of mine, Conan, Walken, and the band.
Ha! I just watched that video. Prior to it I had listened to the real song and all I could think about was Christopher Walken and more cowbell. That’s a classic and so very funny. I even messaged the video to my nephew so he could enjoy it.
That sketch will never run its course.
I need more theremin 🎬👌
“chris, this salad needs more cowbell” LOLOLOL
Conan is 100% correct! I love the cowbell sketch. I’m not sure why it’s so dang funny BUT IT IS!
At his eulogy, SOMEBODY will surly say that "if he had more cowbell, he would still be with us" 😀
He died of a fever.
It follows your as it is timeless mate and your great actor so people can’t help it e all need more cow bell mate :)
Walken is one of the most underrated actors and comedic actors of all time. A great actor and HILARIOUS personality!!!
I love these guys from the eyebrows up.
If you asked me about Walken and SNL my first thought would be "The Continental" sketches or "Colonel Angus" because they are so good but the "More Cowbell" sketch really does stand out.
Did you know that cows find it hard to escape their cowbells too? They tend to follow you around
🤣
Lmao ...I love that SNL Sketch 🤣 I was waiting for Conan to do a remake as Will's character...hahaha.🕺🏼
The Cowbell sketch was one of the greatest of all times.
Tom Hanks had same surprise with David S Pumpkin 😂
As a drummer, I had fun using the bell when I could.
Just watched a Season 8 episode of CSI and Hodges just walked in and tells Grissom et al, 'More Cowbell'. The line will live on forever.
I think its the fact someone is getting so passionate about putting a cowbell in a rock band, and the other band members aren't really on the same page, except will ferrel.... it's just wierd and funny
This interview had just the right amount of cowbell!
one of the best actors ever
"Chris, you know this salad needs more cowbell." Great job you peeps in Singapore. 😁👏👏 🔔🔔🔔
Anytime I'm watching a tutorial CZcams video and they have music in the background I always post more cowbell!
More cowbell please! Also, I agree that it is an never ending course :D
Singapore!! My country!!
You own Singapore? Awesome and congrats. 🍾
There are a TON of funny SNL sketches, some just side-splitting. (Jinglehimer Junction) But iconic is just that. The cowbell sketch will be laughed at for a long time. All the pieces fit and the puzzle came together perfectly.
For as many times as I've watched it, I still laugh as though it's the first time.
I also wondered how much of a boost to BOC that must have been. That song had been around for some time and so had they.
"If you buy the premise, you buy the bit." - Johnny Carson
Will and Chris sold it, and it was one of those skits where everyone knew their lines, rehearsed, but still couldn't keep a straight face..
No.....It is the whole phrase.......I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!!!!!!! GENIUS!!!
Chris........JUST EMBRACE IT......You NAILED THAT line so well it became LEGEND!!!!!
I had no idea until this day there’s actually a cowbell in the real song. CZcams has a video of one of the band members talking about how the Snl skit was similar to how cowbell ended up in the song.
Absolute legend
Nobody delivers a line like Chris Walken. Or Nicholas Cage.
Time to rewatch the sketch, I guess
It worked in part because if you'd ever heard the song before you were subconsciously ignoring the cowbell every time until that moment, when you immediately realized it was obnoxiously present all along. An snl writer probably got high one night and noticed it.
Gotta watch the skit now
1:06 Because it featured the very fine work by one of the best actors. Tom Hanks has a similar story to tell about David Pumpkins…
