WALKING THE STREETS OF REYKJAVIK, ICELAND! (4K)

- Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and about 60% of Iceland's entire population lives in the Greater Reykjavik area. It's a small city and very easy to get around by walking. One of the things that makes Reykjavik unique is that there is some very cool street art on the buildings and on the streets. We were there in summertime and spent a lot of time walking on Reykjavik's main street, Laugavegur. We also visited the unmistakable Hallgrímskirkja Church, which is one of Iceland's tallest structures, which is why you can get the best views of Reykjavik from the observation deck. We ate lunch at the most famous hot dog stand in all of Iceland, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, which was once picked as the best hot dog stand in all of Europe! We then walk past Austurvöllur, a main square, and passed by the Parliament Building and Reykjavik Cathedral. From there, we walked to Tjörnin Pond, where City Hall is located, but it also features perhaps the strangest statue in Europe: The Monument to the Unknown Bureaucrat. It was then time to visit the nearby Settlement Exhibition which was built around the ruins of a Viking Longhouse. Near the harbor, we visited the famous Sun Voyager steel sculpture and walked by the architectural landmark, Harpa Concert Hall. From there, we walked on a happening street named Bankastræti and then back in the other direction on Laugavegur.

Thank you so much-I really appreciate that! Yes, I've always enjoy providing history and facts of places I'm showcasing-I think it adds to one's understanding and enjoyment of the video.
What a wonderful city
And wonderful weather
You have a very good camera. Lighting and focus just right for a preview of one of our destinations later this year. I like your lack of narration so viewer hears/see sights and sound as they occur.
Thanks Doug! I've read a lot of comments on other walking tours that a lot of people prefer little to no narration, which I certainly understand.
What a beautiful place.
Even though I came to Iceland to see its natural beauty, Reykjavik really is a cool city to explore.
I swore when I was watching the hot dog scene, I could smell it. 😂
Looked so good. I think it's my neighbors cooking something but crazy.
Nice adventure ❤
It fascinates me how much Iceland has changed since my first tour there in 1985. Blue Lagoon was an adventure off a side road and treacherous steps to wade from the shower into the water as clothing was optional. Beyond the showers, there were no amenities - we barracks rats loved it. Fishing and a bit of whaling were the economy.
In 1994 tourism was blossoming. Was a bit saddened to see the development around the lagoon but economies must develop - very beautifully developed though.
Central Reykjavik looks like a very walkable friendly part of the city. I can sympathize with the blockhead sculpture signifying the anonymity of public service employees, since I worked for the US Federal Government for over 26 years. However, my job wasn’t boring, and for what I did was way more exciting than working for a private entity.
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Yes, Reykjavik is a very cool city to visit and very easy to get around. Thanks for subscribing!
Que lugar lindooooo!!!!
Loved this insight into Reykjavik, thanks. Looks like incredible weather on that day! Lucky you!
Thanks Marg! We actually had sunny weather most of our 10 days there, so we were fortunate.
@@AndysAwesomeAdventures Definitely!! I’m also going to be there for 10 days at the r d of September, so I hope I am even half as lucky as you!! Lol! Safe travels! Cheers, Marg

Andei muito por essas ruas ! Comprei umas lembranças bem próxima da igreja maior do centro da Islândia .
Essa igreja é muito linda !!! Esse som do órgão que fica bem alto é muito diferente e muito bonito.
Uma dificuldade foi achar estacionamento ...... mas depois descobrimos que poderíamos deixar no estacionamento da igreja e fazíamos apé nosso passeio pelo centro . Saudades demais !!;;
Aí onde tem essas aves ficamos horas olhando a quantidade de pessoas que são turistas e que tbm se encantavam com o canto delas
I'm your Fan.The Video is Great.

Nice walk 👍
Thank you-Reykjavik is a great city to walk through.
Cute place, looks like a lego/kindergarten city in a way. The colors are very child-like. But it's clean!
Meu Filho tirou uma foto onde tem um barco de metal , no dia ventava muito forte e eu não tive coragem kkkk , depois fomos ao
teatro ! Que linda em forma de favos de mel . . Não sei bem se esse seria o nome .! Muito moderno .
I'm going Saturday for 1 week YAY
What camera are you filming with? I like the stability of your video and the quality of image
Surprisingly, most of the footage is from my iPhone 12 Pro Max with a gimbal. I say surprisingly because my iPhone is hit or miss with videos and photos, so I rarely use it anymore. I use my GoPro 10 these days and a camcorder.
Cool video but I can’t help but notice that the people here don’t seem like they’re having too much fun? What is the night life like here? How was the food other than the hotdog place? Any good coffee spots?
There are a few bars in the city center, so there are some nightlife choices, but I didn't really do any partying when I was there. Food was good overall but I'm no foodie. I think we ate the buffet breakfast at the two Reykjavik hotels we stayed, at so not sure about coffee spots.
Am i wrong or do I see a busker at 1:35 ??
When was this video shot?
This past August.
@@AndysAwesomeAdventures Yeah, that’s what I thought since I’m here now and it’s snowing 🌨 but in your video the streets were clear!
Thanks for the clarification anyway.
I'm sure being there in the winter is a totally different, but still great, experience. Enjoy!
I really like ICELAND. I would like to make a visit there. Beautiful place it is. But I don't know how to pronounce anything. "The GYUESIOITUGESWUAVE volcano has erupted". "Please stay tuned for further details".
Is iceland safe at night??
Very safe-very low crime rate in Iceland.
new here
