Personally if I was starting out again, I would look into buying a used camera and look to spend £3-500 with a lens. But right now I would say the GH5 is one the best cameras to buy right now for starting out, as buying it used is about £500-600 body only. Then I would look into buying something like the C70, Blackmagic pockets, and the sony a7s's and the a7's and once I Moved on from there I would look into buying something like the RED Komoto, sony FX6,FX9, and the Blackmagics URSA cameras. Then once I moved on from there I would look into buying the highest end cinema cameras from SONY, RED and ARRI. Without thinking about lenses or rigging the camera.
facts jan, GH5 is incredible for the price
Ima check the g5
Two things:
I know there will be cameras that might be better options in each of these categories-like I said, these cameras are only limited to my own experiences.
Also, the Sony a7sii and a7siii could be considered better mid-level options but the reason I didnt include them are because of price point, I figured most of y'all who are new to the game will be wanting to save a couple bucks even though those two camera bodies are probably better and more video centric than the a7iv and a7iii.
Enjoy y'all
I would say the first thing to think about is what your goal is? Are you shooting just games? Are you shooting doc? Are you a video or photo guy because the gear once you get to a real professional level if pretty tailored to the craft.
All the cameras you listed are good for starting out, with the exception of fs7 is the beginning of production level cameras.
The levels are Consumer, Prosumer, Production, "true" Cinema. The lines are a bit blurred these days but to reframe the cameras you listed.
A6100-500, Gh4-5 or what ever it is now is a Consumer camera.
A7s3, A73, A7R, C70, BMPCC4k-6k or whatever is a Prosumer Camera.
FS5-7, FX6-9, C300MK2-3, C500MK2, or whatever is a Production camera.
All Red cameras, All ARRI cameras - the Amira, Sony Venice 1-2 is a Cinema Camera.
The goal if you are doing photo or video is the same create the best looking footage to last the longest amount of time. That's why NFL films shot on film for so long, it was the best technical quality possible. its debatable that it still is but video has less issues so there is give and take.
Best cameras hands down that were left out of this video the ARRI Amira what most NFL teams use and NFL Films uses. Any top model Ie most expensive of its time RED Epic Dragon DSMC, Dragon X, Gemini, Monstro DSMC2, V raptor.
Just got the A7III thanks to this video. Super excited man. Great video
I just used my Canon EOS R at an amateur league and works good both photo and video. Downside is that it only has 4k cropped at 24/30fps and 1080p at 60fps but still pretty decent. I went with Canon because not only color science but RF Lens lineup and hope to upgrade the camera to R6, R5, R5C (which is still coming) or maybe R3 if I get bold. But that C70 looks amazing. Champions of Shots right there
EOS R is definitely not as good as the r5 or r6 but that is reflected in price! for mid level stuff and the audience of this video I figured id slip it in mid level just bc of the prices of stuff like the r5, sony a7siii, etc. thanks for your input nathan!!
Go with the g85 over the g7 you can use an external monitor with the g85. the g85 has ibis, and a headphone/mic jack.
newer sensor as well, reason I didn't put it on here was bc I figured Id wanna slip in a 4k option close to 500 bucks to keep it real cheap
Canon's R5 and R6 are a good in-between of midlevel and pro camera bodies
You’re right about that one!
Solid video and appreciate the shoutout!
recently upgraded from the a6400 to the FX-3 and cannot lie the cinematic low light capabilities *chefs kiss*
Absolutely. That camera is a great intro to cine too
Solid video and appreciate the shout out!
Of course man, you have a super in depth vid on the a7iv so I figured why not
Hi Pete. Do you use a gimbal for sports video with the c70 or is this all handheld?
a mix of both
Great Video Bro!!
Thank you Caleb!
I be using my ring doorbell to film
EDIT: But fr, I use the S5 right now, and with manual, that things BANGS. 60fps 4k with crop, full frame 30fps 4k, and 120p 1080 with no audio, and i think it can go 240 with manual focus only. Wish the 120 had audio tho 😂
I've never met anyone who has used it but panasonic makes solid video cameras so I trust your judgement dude! listen to the man if you want another good option^^^
hey Pete! I recently got my first camera (Sony A7III) after watching this video. This video was extremely helpful and helped me with my decision. Is there anyway you could do a video sharing your video settings for shooting sports?
yes I will probably look into that soon. I do auto white balance, 120fps 1080 XAVCS, or 4k 24fps
@@pete_chalk thanks a lot Pete! Thank you so much for replying, it means a lot!
I just ordered a Sony A7iii looking to mostly film lacrosse. Any suggestions on a good lens ? It came with a 28-70 mm lens
70-200
@@pete_chalk appreciate the fast reply love your content brotha !
What are the settings to have everyone in focus during sports?
Hey Pete, what would you suggest for budget level for canon?
Canon 80d
GOAT
How do you feel about the lumix gh6 for sports
Hey! Do you have any tips on c70 settings? I have one, but mainly do talking head stuff with it. I use my Fuji for sports, but would love to use the c70.
what are you shooting
@@pete_chalk when I do sports I go for my Fuji as it’s smaller, but want to start using my c70 more.
Sir which camera is good for vedios of football drill (for insta, football vedios) below 60k??
Could you make a video dedicated to the Sony A6400(300)
Possibly!
Can you go over your lenses and which ones you like for shooting sports?
I have a whole video on it if you wanna check it out. Best lenses for sports videography
@@pete_chalk thank you so much! These videos are so insanely helpful to complete noobs like me that just want to shoot stuff like this for fun. Thank you!!!
Are u using mostly AF or MF on the c70?
nope all manual unless on gimbal
Any good camera to film a soccer game with. 300 to 500 budget
Can someone recommend a good enough camera that I can use as input on my laptop with OBS to live stream cricket matches. I have examples if trials on my channel of what I'm trying to record.
I'm looking to achieve higher quality. I have tried the iPhone 13pro with an app and my Canon g7x m2 with a video card etc but the zoom is limiting
What do you do about memory cards for videos
Canon r5c or the canon c70
I want to film a High School Football game from the stands with a Tripod. What camera would you recommend? Thanks
sony a 6300
@@pete_chalk
Thanks Pete!
What nd filters do u recommend?
The Peter McKinnon ones are solid. I have one from Amazon prime that’s just the Amazon basics one
Is 4k absolutely necessary for professional work? Like do teams you work for require it?
For your negatives, yes.
Interesting the a7iii over the more video centric a7c. Mmmm
very versatile if you wanna take photos too, gives you the option
Crazy how cheap great cameras are these days.
Sorry but apsc sensor doesn’t just use a less of the sensor it’s a smaller sensor 😂
yeah its both
How can I be best photography?
Don’t sleep on the fujifilm XT4
I think you’re very wrong when you mentioned Sony lenses being heavy and expensive compared to canon. It’s the complete opposite. Both are expensive, but every new lens Sony has released in the past few years is lightest in its class. And they have the best af motors.
incorrect partially, sonys 16-35 and 24-70 are both heavier than their canon counterparts i do believe, which are the two lenses i use most. Also a majority of videographers/filmmakers use manual focus so AF motors aren't important to me
@@pete_chalk that is incorrect. Both the 24-70 II and 16-35 are almost exactly 200 grams lighter than their canon counterparts. And the difference for Nikon is even greater. They all make incredible lenses, but Sony is the best in terms of size/weight.

Don’t like 4k 60 crop in 2034
