I'm a Blockheads fan turned Sapiens fan. In all seriousness though, Dave, it has been an honour seeing this project evolve. I love your ideas and it's been awe-inspiring getting insight into their implementation. Thank you for bringing me, and thousands of others, hours of entertainment and excitement. Thank you Dave, when I was very young (5-8 years old?) I used to play The Blockheads all the time, and my Twin would play it alongside me. The game was immensely fun and I have so many great memories with it. Though I was young enough to not understand the bulk of it.
Now I'm almost 16 (I know, still young) and I can't wait for Sapiens! The shock I got when I realized you also made The Blockheads was massive 😅

Same story for me i am 16, me and my twin brother played this game for countless hors together. Searching for spare change to add more world credit to our online world. We met fantastic people on Blockheads and I still love playing it to this day, even though I maybe play with one other person at a time. ♥️ I hope maybe some day, Blockheads will re release.
you should do game programming or development. it's the most interesting hobby that could be my entire life.

@@chihsvfx3913 i recommend godot engine, it's updated frequently, has an ample lot of tutorials, can run on your slow computer and it's entirely free. though the latter is unity, it's the more popular option but is kinda hard for beginners as it depends on some software you didn't know for making games.

I've watched about 50 game trailers today and this is the game that really spoke to me.
I hope there is the option to meet with your tribe by the campfire and sing songs or dance. So that they're not just worker units but a family of individuals.
Fantastic soundtrack as well.
I found these dev logs to be very well-made and extremely inspiring, especially the more technical behind-the-scenes parts were really interesting. I'm hoping they will continue after the game is published, and maybe we'll even get to see a new project some time in the future?

The whole game is really just such a staggeringly impressive accomplishment, all the more so for being the work of a single developer. Incredible.

Dave, as a Blockheads fan, Im glad that you are still developing games, and that these games especially look good. Even though the Blockheads are no longer around, your contributons have affected me so much. I remembered when I would create a house in a hill in Blockheads, and create a little fortress, I remembered when I would go see other worlds and see incredible creations. You are doing good work, and I'm proud of how far you have come.

This compared to when you first started making the game is insane progress
It's honestly been 2 years since I've caught up on your progress, but I've had Sapiens as my number one on wish list for over 3 years and there it shall be, not forgotten, but awaited patiently!!!! Looking amazing, extremely excited for the day it comes!!!! :D
Congratulations on early access man! It’s been a such a long journey and you’ve worked so hard… I’ve only been watching for the past year or so and you’ve made so much progress in such a “short” period of time. You deserve all the best!

hi Dave, loved all the progression through the years, can't wait till the game is out!
one small but kinda critical note is that the trailer feels a bit rushed in a sense; the text goes by quickly and a lot of things are happening at once with lots of different pans
I'd personally suggest a more cinematic approach, like;
[Intro] - the classic Sapiens intro music over a rotating planet for 10s, before slowly zooming in on a village on the planet which has a few starter houses
"Grow" - 10s shot of some villagers collecting food or something
"Build" - 15s-20s shot of villagers cutting down trees and moving resources to build a house, maybe in a fancy timelapse :D
"Explore" - Some cinematic shots of the beautiful landscape with your villagers overlooking a mountain range or something, maybe showing another village
etc.
(sorry for the criticism, ik this will be on the Steam page and you deserve to capture the audience. think of the KSP2 game trailer :D love ya Dave)
Cinematic trailers have their place, and definitely look better on CZcams. Ideally I'd create both types of trailer, but my time is limited so the focus here was on Steam. On the store page I think you want to get to the point quickly, and not waste the time of those who are browsing by filling it up with slow cinematic shots. I actually fought the instinct to create a trailer more like what you describe, and purposely left out a lot in order to keep it punchy and short.
I have to say this is one of my favorite channels on youtube and whatever you do, please don't stop making these kind of videos, I love seeing your progress and I'm looking forward to playing sapiens

Very cool! But I would maybe do a version where you don't have UI popping up and covering the gameplay at key moments. You zoom into the planet and are about to see the people for the first time and BLAM, Big grey box. This happens a few times.
