    It's a middleweight sport bike so it will satisfy the majority of riders. The operative word is "fun" so that should summarize if anyone should buy this bike and not have to worry about getting bored with it. I've been riding a CBR900RR and R1 for the past 16 years. I'm planning on downgrading to either the Suzuki SV650 or Yamaha FZ-07. Nobody needs to go 187 mph or from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds. If you consider the extra attention from law enforcement plus the higher insurance plus the extremely uncomfortable seating position plus the really high seat height, it's not worth it. I haven't been having anymore fun than you. With the money I'll be saving, I can easily afford the upgrades like an aftermarket exhaust, fender eliminator kit, bar end mirrors, and windscreen. Well thought out review.

      I'm better than 60 mpg in mine so far, and it should go up as it is only two weeks old. But I'm riding most of the time at 35 mph, cruising between lanes, slow and steady.
      After 1000 miles of use, I should get better, and if I take it out on the weekends, I'm sure I'd cause it to do worse. It replaced a 2011 CBR250R, that was a scooter in wolf's clothing. Yes, the 250 got better fuel economy, but it was slow and had trouble keeping up to the speed limit on steep hills. Though its saving grace was the soft as a pillow suspension. Not great for track, but great on potholed roads, or riding on the reflector-lane-markers. The MT-07 doesn't like the lane markers, and vibrates the whole bike. The tool kit bag bounces all around, even when strapped in.
      The 250 would get almost 80 mpg Going up to a ~700 will cost me around $5 per 100 miles. Worth it.

    Russian Rider, great review. I sincerely appreciate your opinion on this particular mortacycle especially from someone of your back ground. I will be new to riding and I will be getting the newer Yamaha FZ-O7 to start out. I'm ways beyond my twilight years, but what is important to me is comfortable up right ridding stance, a little aggressiveness, a little bit of power, last but not least an old school look. Naked bikes will be area of choosing just a preference, but it I think fits this old stallion well. Ride safe and God bless.

I also have high performance Yamaha vintage 2-strokes, RZ & RD models, but a '95 Ninja 250 I bought to teach my Nephew to learn on was one of the most fun bikes I've ever taken into the National Forest Roads up Mt. St. Helens. Straight line hero BS is boring. Twisty roads are not!

    I remember watching your reviews when I was still waiting for the right time and the right deal. Now I have had mine almost a year, also white, and I am at 13.5K miles. Re rear brakes, several things you can check (bleed cylinder, it might have air from original installation), or do (metal lined brake lines), to improve response. Personally I was always accidently locking mine up, and the parts are the same, so I'd check the pedal height (I raised mine) and bleed the brakes (if it's had air all this time you might want to change the fluid too). It shouldn't be mushy.

    Hi Russian Rider and thank you for your video & comments. I bought a MT-07 Tracer about 6 weeks ago, have done about 1600 kms since and installed a TEC bike parts full exhaust and I just love my new bike. I've come down in engine size (before Triumph Tiger 955i) and have absolutely no regrets. More than powerful enough, better wind protection, sounds wonderful with the new exhaust, great on petrol. Just a brilliant all round bike - I'm extremely happy with mine.

      The akra sounds even beefier and a hell of a lot more aggressive, esp with the baffles removed. There is a video where a guy has this bike with an akra exhaust and he shortened the baffles rather than removing them because of how loud it got you should check it out.

    Im an old goat who just started riding again. There are many motorcycle video reviews out there/here on CZcams. Many stand out as the best. Revzilla is tops. But among the "owner reviews" yours is exceptional. Your honesty is a rare commodity in this day and age and should be respected. Your restrained use of the bike "because you have a family" is evidence of highly responsible parenting by your very own parents. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Im now subcribed. This was my first Bike and I still have it. This bike was my daily commuter to work 130 mile round trip to getting into track days. I now have a GSXR1000 (overkill) that is more of my daily and track day bike. The FZ can be a total track machine (short Tracks) with some modification. Suspension become a obvious problem when you start to find the limits or if your over 200 lbs but it will still do the Job. I just took it too the track a few days ago because the GSXR was getting suspension work. Love the FZ , its such a fun bike for old or new riders.

Hooligan says MT09

    MT-07 was a first bike that I rode after getting my A license here in Croatia. I wasn't the owner of the bike, my friend is. He has multiple bikes so he loaned me the MT-07 while I was waiting for my R3 to arrive. It was a great experience, I loved the acceleration, speed and comfortable seating. Though, compared with my R3 things that annoyed me were no wind protection and quite a bit of vibration in handlebars. Lots of times my hands would get numb after longer ride, problem that I don't have now on R3. Other than that, it was a great looking, great sounding and fun riding bike.

    In my experience with MT07, the most issues are with screen (tested wit Yamaha Sport Screen).
    Most of the screens just redirect airflow to your shoulders and helmet, if you have integral
    helmet (tested with Schuberth S2 Sport) then this air reflects under the neck lining and creates
    unpleasant wind noise. (applies to all nakeds). At the end I am more happy without any screen.
    Contradictory modular helmets (tested with Schuberth C3 Pro, Nolan N104 Evo) come with more
    neck lining as you don't need to push your head through it thus much less annoying kind of noise.
    Regarding exhaust, yes stock one sounds like scooter and people in cars don't hear you as much,
    however I prefer silence, if I need car drivers to hear me stock exhaust still can revbomb nicely.

I'm not going to say it is totally annoyance free, shiftings could be smoother and suspensions, specially front end, don't keep up with the good quality of the bike, but in overall is a pretty solid and fun bike, has a good mileage, decent brakes (I encourage anyone is considering to buy one to order it with ABS) and the price tag is pretty good. Enjoy.

    • @RussianRider
      @RussianRider  Před 8 lety +2

      Reliability is top notch, comfort on long trips will be ok, better than a sports bike but the bike has quite a bit of wind blast since it doesn't have a windscreen. Get yourself the longer version of my windscreen (I have the shorty) and that will help quite a bit. The SV650 will be similar in this regard.

      I currently own the R3. Personal advice, the fz 07 is much more comfortable, a little more power on the engine and I would spend the extra 1500-2k to make it worthwhile. The FZ 07 is a bike you'll keep for longer than the R3 and you'll lose that 1500-2k anyway if you get the R3 and decided to change your mind. R3 is a great sports bike but the FZ 07 you really can't go wrong

    • @RussianRider
      @RussianRider  Před 8 lety +2

      The FZ-07 feels (and is) much faster than the R3, honestly its a huge difference. With good riders, the R3 quarter mile is about 14.55 which is similar to many cars. The FZ-07 is 12.2 which is more like a high end sports car with 500HP.

      @bruzanHD Před 7 lety +1

      WakeUpToWhat? Any bike is gonna stop in a fraction of the distance of a car. Plus you never slam brakes on a bike. As long as you don't lock up you should stop really quick only using front

    • @Cds2000Channel
      @Cds2000Channel Před 6 lety +7

      Actually no, bikes tend to have longer stopping distance than your average car. Two tires instead of four.

    • @eilliwwasniahc
      @eilliwwasniahc Před 6 lety +2

      If you are truly braking hard your rear wheel is off the ground. If you are merely braking pretty hard, your rear wheel is really light and and a strong rear brake will lock up the tire and induce a slide, or it will induce wheel hop. It is much better to have a rear brake that is weak but predictable, than to have a strong one that takes a lot of your attention in modulating pressure.

      I started on a Honda 250 scrambler a thousand years ago and upgraded to a triumph 650 when it came time for a new bike. I was going to junior college and found that that was the only transportation I needed for years.
      If you start out on a bike, you will learn to appreciate the need to be hyper aware of everything around you ( traffic, road conditions, weather, the kids playing on the sidewalk), and that will carry on throughout the rest of your driving career.
      This bike should be perfect for your initiation into the world of riding. I'm glad I learned on my old 250,because I learned the need for a more powerful bike for street riding when a friend and I were riding down to San Diego. He on his Triumph 650 and I on my little Honda. We were cruising at my max 60mph (like I said a thousand years ago. 250's and 300's do a hundred now) at 1:00am in the morning when this guy came up behind us, asleep at the wheel, and rear ended my buddy. The 650 pulled ahead whereas ..... well you can figure it out.
      good luck with which ever kind of vehicle you settle on. I just know I'm glad I learned on a bike over 50 yrs ago.

      I've been a passenger on one of these things, it's very comfy to sit on, my mate had no problems riding with me on it. 2 things to consider though: it has no bar for the passenger to hold behind them, you have to wrap around the rider. And also the bike is pretty wheely happy, add a person on the back and you'll have to be additionally careful.

    Hey Russian, thanks for the 2-year update. I, too, have the 2015 Pearl White. I bought it used exactly a year ago with 2374 miles on it. I live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at higher elevations (6200') and the bike still has plenty of power with the lack of air pressure up here. I like your points of what keeps you from getting bored of the FZ-07 - I feel the same way. Over the summer I have done a few mods, including clutch and brake levers. I highly suggest you get a pair and adjust them properly. You won't regret it. I was hesitant to switch out the stock parts because I'm not a fan of straying too far from the Yamaha design (after all, they are the experts and know best about the bike). I agree with everything you said, but for short riders it is a bit too tall. I rode twelve years on my tip toes and just got tired of it. The other problem is Yamaha failing (or refusing) to sell the FJ model which allows you to have bags and windscreen. As a second choice I bought the R3 along with a touring screen, sport saddle bags, tail bag, tank bag, saddlemen gel seat, and many other mods. What I have now is a bike as quick (0-60) as a Porsche Boxster (both 5.6 seconds), so acceleration is not an issue, and comfort is not an issue. Traveling long distances is very easy for me. Mine is a black bike, and it is quite good looking, and with the 150/60 rear tyre, it is also a good handling bike. Now if Yamaha should decide to dump their old FZ6R and replace it with a faired FZ07, then I might trade up. A naked (hooligan bike in England) is not what people like me need, and hopefully Yamaha will realize that.

    I had one, I put $4k into mine. The aerodynamics, brakes and shocks bummed me out, and I had some close calls because of them. I ride like a lunatic so it was probably more me pushing the bike beyond it's limits. I just sold it and bought the new R1. No regrets other than I wish I put the $4k into the R1. It is hard to get those mods back, but I got $6K. It is not even the $ as much as the time invested that kills me. If you are a beginner, it is a great bike, wicked fun, however after 5000 miles, you may want more. I had trouble passing some cars that try to race you on the FZ. The R1 is like being fired out of a gun, I am now almost twice as fast as any normal car.

      +Speeding Tickets Wow thats a good bit of $ you put in. I'd probably just updated sooner as it seems you do push the bike really hard. I put in $1000 or so and got $6500 for it when I sold it.

      +Russian Rider How many miles? I had 6500 on mine. That is a lot for a bike. This season is so nasty. I can't ride for 15 minutes without my helmet being blanketed with fly meat. Stay vertical man!
