Hey gang!
I had a good feeling I'd be animating something from Vic's dropout show when the trailer first dropped. I couldn't have expected this though. Like why would you, it's terrifying.

The cut always. The props. The uncle. Just inspired work.
Aaaaaaaa thanks Vic!!!! You make every ep of VIP ✨outstanding✨
This comment is correct
Thank you so much for VIP Vic! Hope you enjoyed your inspirational interview with Tommy Shriggley lol
We love you chaos gremlin
I really appreciate what you did with VIP, portraying an interesting and nuanced character of your own instead of a bland and sanitized talk show host. That's what really sets the show apart for me.
People will never understand the sheer brilliance of turning 100 thousand dollars into 16k. Only Tommy could pull of such a feat
*feet
@@placeholderdoe unless that's a bit I don't understand that's a different word. Feat is an accomplishment, feet are for walking
Isn't that better?
He turned a hundred thousand dollars of someone else's money into sixteen thousand dollars of his own money. He's still up 16 grand!
@@SeveralGhosthe turned feat into feet, isnt that better?
C’mon everybody gimme a lil clap
👏
@@DeepBlueInk the last thing you hear before he offs you and your whole platoon
@TryinaD I mean, you should be fine so long as you dont drink all the coke is what I heard
👏
👏
He could have turned it into 250 thousand dollars but he needed to know beforehand.
This is one of my favorite permutation jokes, it killed me.
...this is brilliant.
I don't get it. Can someone explain it to me?
It's a reference to a joke they make later in the actual episode this is from (about being able to run different distances in different times)
@@happiestman978czcams.com/users/shortslVuaiqexkgA
My favorite part is how Tommy works out on the swings.
He heard he had to do sets and he was like oh, as in swing
You did an amazing job translating Zac's lumpy, Akira-esque head and body into something coherent you could animate.
I'm so glad he added the finger movements. That's one of the details that takes Tommy from great costume to eldritch horror.
Bro yes! He looks like the Colonel from Akira! I just realized that lol
@@tiewithnocollar3035 His uncle kind of does, now that you mention it. But I meant that Tommy looks like Tetsuo when his body starts to expand and deform.
@@AdmiralWinfrey yeah they both have the tiny face large head design
Akira-esque is absolutely the best way to describe his face.
This might even warrant a BIG clap.
Sorry, I only have many small claps
@@blakewhite3131 turn your 100,000 small claps to 16,000 bigger claps. That's the power of positivity 👏
No no no. You don’t get it do you. Only small claps. ONLY. small. CLAPS.
I love the immediate cut to "Isn't that better?" after talking about how he turned his $100,000 into $16,000. It just works so well!
No, he turned $100 thousand into $16,000!
he didn't just explode into anger after he learned there wasn't any coke, he premeditated the assault and picked them off one by one while they were vulnerable in the middle of the night
In the dead
of the night
I thought he said
In a one on one fight in the middle of the night
Like that's fair right? Isn't that better?
isn't that better? isn't that better? don't you feel better? don't you feel a lot better, now? don't you feel good? don't you feel better? i feel better-- do you feel better?
But the things is, every time I come back to watch this clip, I *do* feel a lot better.
As you should, as you should.@@egh423
We are rapidly approaching the intersection of DBI and Brian David Gilbert, and I don't know if I'm ready for such a masterpiece.
Also, yes, "EVISCERATED" deserves to be printed at that size.
Oh, if DBI ever went back and animated Brian David Gilbert's Be Your Own Boss video, that would be amazing!
Bdg and dbi are like my favorite
Omg the quadruples boy band song
Damn, some Unravelled animated could be incredible
IM SHAKING WITH EXCITEMENT
Having never watched this show on Dropout, I have absolutely no context for this.
This conversation was absolutely WILD to just be dropped into.
With context, the conversation IS wild! It is singlehandedly one of the most hilarious things I have ever watched. HIGHLY recommend!
The premise is that one or two cast members are put in makeup and costume without knowing what they're going to look like, are given a few minutes to come up with a character when it's revealed to them, then have to improvise an interview with Vic. It's insane and I love it.
It's posted to their youtube and it's so SO worth watching
I didn't know the military background part, I've only ever seen the little clap bits. Jfc I need to get Dropout again
I feel like in the DeepBlueInkiverse, all Dads/Grandpas/Uncles are required by law to have that hairy orange slice of a mustache.
I see it more as DBI is a grand master of simplification and iconography. A lot of times his animations have me repicking up Understanding Comics to read a chapter or two.
The added detail of his uncle being there cheering him on xD
"Good job nephew, I literally could not be more proud of you, your actions and the results of your actions."
Such an inspiration. I could never imagine wanting to go back to the military after that moment. That was as dark as it gets.
Vic: "dream job?"
Tommy: "the military"
absolutely incredible
Right! Having to drink Coke Zero? Anyone would have snapped under those conditions
Dahrk*
As dhąëřk as it gets
Something that never fails to astound me is the sheer skill in the audio editing of this
Like the first animation i ever watched of yours was the Merobiba one, and imagine my utter surprise when i watched the original and found you had taken clips from all over thay section and made them absolutely flow together
Well its something similar to how i felt just now. And I've watched the original!
Props to you man, thats incredible skill!
(Or as Jacob Wysocki once said, "Dang, Daddy, thats some crazy stuff")
Dang, daddy thanks for the lovely comment!!!!
Just try to imagine the amount of times he had to listen to Jacob scream to get the face right for the animation.... the running it back hundreds of times while editing..... and getting the sound mixing right..... it's madness.
I think like 0:19 , 0:22 and 0:25 are from completely dofferent sections of the episode, and its not even noticeable???? Wild
@@DeepBlueInkyou deserve all the compliments and more!
When Zac poured the protein powder on Vic I simply lost it
The way his body works is absolutely unprecedented
the range of concerned and distraught emotions on Vic's face is amazing XD
extremely accurate to the episode💀
I didn't think the joke that would make me laugh hardest would be Vic saying "your entire platoon..." before it cuts to her notes saying *EVISCERATED* in big bold letters
YES VIP animations!! Zac Oyama is such a master of comedy, to have THIS be the episode that breaks Vic when the Ex-Step-Grandmother episode is one of the funniest things I've seen in my entire life? Give him a little clap, y'all.
Wait, that was ZAC? I legit didn't recognize his voice. That's awesome.
Vic and Zac are on an improv team together and this is the last episode they filmed so it was teed up.
@@mxspokes that makes perfect sense, they work extremely well together. This series is so good.
I cannot stop thinking about the ex-step-grandmother one!!
ALSO, Zac's work with this character is a FLAWLESS parody of bad, toxic-positivity "wellness" influencers and/or motivational speakers:
- Dark past event they've come back from is WAY worse than you'd think and haven't taken any actual accountability
- Only philosophy is "be positive"
- Finds a harsh phrase like "get your head outta your ass" and thinks it's "tough love" instead of just being a jerk
- Terrible at business and minutes from bankruptcy so please buy my product
- Only succeeded/escaped very bad things of their own creation due to privilege and connections
- Promotes "mental health" but all their past misfortune is actually just bad behavior and knows nothing about actual mental health struggles beyond 'feeling bad about myself (because of the bad things I've done I don't want to acknowledge)''"
- Looks physically impressive, primarily as a result of steroids, cosmetic surgery, or both (ironically does not recognize or accept their likely body dysmorphia)
The fact that it's all improvised is so very impressive.
I love how huge Tommy is compared to the chair and that it was Sam who drank all the coke!
I didn’t even notice it was Sam! That’s great.
He'd been there the whole time
He always has been
I appreciate that your style is generally to give people small faces in the middle of their head which meant having to make Tommy's face NOTICABLY smaller
zach truly has an ability to break people's composure that's unmatched, like i think he's make nearly every person on the dropout cast that he's been in a thing with lose their shit laughing. the only exception might be katie marovich, but i think if he had been on the episode of breaking news where everyone tries to get her to laugh then she would've lost.
Very Important Animation
“I invested it, I turned $100,000 into *$16,000* “ fucking broke me.
I'm so glad you animated this one because the amount of times him singing come on everybody can I get a little clap pops up in my head
I love those times Zac has someone on the ropes and they can't stop laughing. Then, for whatever reason, he just keeps going in, seeing how long he can make it go.
"Not if you have an uncle" 😂
I'm really impressed how the VIP makeup team transformed Zac from his usual lilac colour into Joe Biden Apricot.
Yes, I did pause to read Vic's notes. Also the timing of the cuts on this was beautiful. Chef's kiss.
The notes ending on a click bait was so worth it
the visual gag of it turning from 100k to 16k over the course of.... hour 0 and hour 2. this is incredible
I discovered Dropout from a youtube short of this bit, and after countless hours of catching up this is still the best!
You discovered Dropout that recently?! I envy how much NEW you have in front of you. (My personal faves are Breaking News and Game Changer)
It's annoying because I was vaguely aware of CollegeHumor but never watched anything lol. I'm starting to rectify this however and have binged all of VIP, Game Changer, Make Some Noise and Breaking News... I'm getting there!
Watch total forgiveness. Please finish it.
Have fun :)
The weird vocal fry on, "That was *AS DARK* as it gets..." like Tommy alllllllmost had a human emotion for just a second. 😂
Meanwhile Vic was legit in tears throughout. Incredible.
daurk
Sometimes, I think Dropout makes content thinking "How can we make something that DBI will feel spiritually obligated to animate?"
They made VIP, Make Some Noise, and now Smarty Pants. All of these shows seem perfect for you to harvest hilarious moments and turn them into great animations.
Through the power of positivity and little claps (and having an uncle that’s a general), I’m sure that Tommy Shriggly will one day re-achieve his dream job of being in the military!
Genuinely thought for sure the 100k storyline would be appended to with something like "and it just reminds me of how lucky I am, because that same day someone was kidnapped. And they didn't return them even after the family paid the ransom"
Vic's eye twitching in the opening is sending me
Yes, Tommy, I do feel better. Thank you.
you mustve had a spoonful of his protein powder
1:00 "...with THESE hands. 👐" He never said that, but your animation forged it in my brain & now I can't delete it. 💙
That would have been amazing.
Aside from the scene itself, mad props for capturing Vic's mad pan to camera on the intros. And it says something about both you and the show that what you added (like the 911 call held up to catch his confession) feels like it belongs in the actual interview as it was filmed.
God bless you actually making that body make sense 😂
Just noticed the matching little earring on the uncle!
What a detail, love it.
I still love that Zac actually made Vic break character multiple times in that episode. Lol
You truly captured Tommy perfectly in your style. I genuinely believe that this man hunted down his entire platoon, one by one in the dead of night, because they drank the last Coke and left him with Coke Zero.
I love that you made Sam the guy who drank the coke and turned Tommy into a murderer.
I love how you emphasize with the animation the 16.000 vs the 100.000 in the same tone and capacity than Tommy's voice. Absolute masterpiece
Very ready to give a little clap
The fact that Vic just stops talking as the credits roll makes the ending super dark.
The image of Tommy swinging with weights has blessed my eyeballs. And the cuts just heighten their quick back and forth, oh so good.
Amazing animation. One thing you miss out on from the original is that when Mr. Shriggly is asking Vic if she "feels better," insistently, it's seconds after dumping barely FDA approved protein supplement powder down her throat and all over her face
Twice, I might add. The second time they asked for it. 😂
god the way you use your style to show subtle body language and facial expressions is always so masterful and makes the audios read so much funnier. you get me everytime mr ink
Oh stop iiiiit 💚
I didn't even THINK about you animating Very Important People, but I am so excited you did!! This show is so good and it's great to see you animate it!
you must feel so much better now.
The way you animated the intro really conveys the energy of so many of the episodes!
The other best joke not added here was that he was enlisted in the Coast Guard, which is mostly for search and rescue, not heavy combat.
That gigantic face and those tiny hands are killing me.😂
If you can live with that then please continue.
Omg so excited to see you’re branching out into Very Important People animations! There’s so much potential here. I’d love to see you translate some of the other guests into your style.
Vic’s eye twitches and nervousness were so evocative. Loved the working out on the swingset too!
I feel so much better! I love his thicc ass neck, how you managed to simplify his grotesque nature into your style is beyond me, but it translates perfectly. I give this animation a little clap 👏
Seeing him without it being prosthetics is genuinely terrifying.
animated vic gives of their EXACT energy and I am living for it.
Thank you for animating some of the breaks. It's easily the best episode of VIP. Holy God this was immaculate.
Having watched that ep multiple times, I can safely say: your cuts are fantastic. It truly feels like this was the uncut flow of their convo. Even the credit audio feels like it came right after!
Damn, DBI. You're so skilled. 😎👉
Incredible work as always. Cmon everybody gimme a lil clap indeed
I don't know which part I like better, the coke story or his short lived self-applause that everyone was ready to jump in on, but he just bailed out of after like 5 seconds
if you watch the actual episode he does it many more times and even that one was alot longer, dbi just didnt want to animate it for that long, or him dancing around the room while clapping with vic
@@JubioHDX And whether by accident or not, made it a lot funnier imo
@@MysterySteve im ngl i still find the original funnier than this cause of how hard you could tell vic was trying to not break yet still failing miserably so many times😂, and the protein powder section is fully gone with only part of the audio used among other things. This animation is still great though it just cant beat the OG imo. By far the best VIP episode yet
If they had called the show “Very Important Characters” then it would be VIC
I'VE BEEN SAYING THISSSS
Closed captioning on point again with
*little clap*
& Vic trying to be reassuring
I laughed really freaking hard when that one guy in studio got stuck doing a LITTLE CLAP by himself
I've yet to get around to VIP on my newly minted Dropout subscription so this is a lovely/incredibly insane little taster.
and HAI Sam!
what always gets me is the "I invested $100k and turned it into $16 THOUSAND dollars"
I would never have guessed how Tommy Shriggly would look in the Deep Blue Ink style.
I loved this episode because he was the only one to break her, not just once, but many times.
CMON ERRYBODY LITTLE CLAP
need to turn on notifs, can't believe i almost missed this! honestly SO impressed with how you could turn mr. shriggly's nearly non euclidean form into something coherent for animation.
This is always a highlight of my day when a new video comes out
So glad you included "I turned that into 16000 dollars"
I have rewatched this an unhealthy amount of times and it makes me laugh so hard every time. You truly outdid yourself here.
It really highlights what a comedian Zach is that he fully broke Vic in a way no one else could
Vic never breaking and then breaking twice back to back off of Tommy Shriggly
He's so proud about his portfolio! He truly deserves a little clap!
I love the introduction showing her so astoundingly nervous and on her last nerve. She doesn't know WHERE they find these people. Also little Shriggly being so enormous was such a good parallel to the hands true stature
I'm going to give this animation the littlest of claps
I love every thing about this sm 😭😂 Also ❤️❤️ the slow-mo intro where Vic looks all prim and fancy but is actually hanging on by a thread 😭 lmao
It’s the “soda slaughterer” and the dumbbells on the swing set for me 😂
It must have been torture trying to find only two minutes to use
Now we get to look forward to the new Drawfee + Gamechanger crossover animation 😁 its all been building to this!
That was quite possibly the best episode so far and possibly that ever will be. Nothing will ever beat how hard I laughed at Tommy Shriggly.
This episode was amazing. Just the best in the whole season. Zac is truly a comedy genius, who will someday be a 70 year old man named Zac.
I just really like the shade of blue/green you used for Vic. It’s just really aesthetically pleasing
Something about Tommy on a swing set, brings me joy.
Whenever I find an animated video this good on CZcams I'm always bummed when I go to the channel and see they only upload like twice a year, but there is so much here I'm so excited to check out.
I was waiting for you to animate this and dear god, is it just as beautiful as I imagined
Edit: and not only that, the freaking "turn over to the next page to find out" cliff hanger that article sites use - but for a newspaper is immaculate. Plus I appreciate the time it took to letter that entire article 😂
That Cookie Monster shade of blue just fits Vehicular so well
Props to you designing these for animation and not giving up from giggling too much. Because I probably would.
I'm so glad you animated the part about the investment, truly one of my favorite moments.
I would pay $16,000 for a holographic poster of Tommy on the swing, so when you look at it from one side it’s him just on the swing and when you look at it from another side it’s him on the swing with the weights
The graph at the end was perfect
Turning Vic’s breaks into fearful exhales is genius
The host's strained smile is perfect DBI
I love just the cuts to him in the park its just so marvelously simple.
He's at the swing set, so he's swinging.
But he was working out, so he is just swinging with weights.
I love it so much. Deserves a little clap.
Both of them breaking so much in this episode was just *chef's kiss*
You really should do more Very Important People animations! The guy with the puppet is hilarious. 😂
These guys were so funny neither of them could stop from laughing. Props to everyone!
