Loved the nostalgia trip of great iconic themes...but hearing the name Jill Dando gave me the chills. All these years later, her tragic loss, it’s still raw

That 1984 6 O'clock news intro has really good CGI for 1984!

I love the versions of the BBC News theme in the early and mid 2000s, up to 2007, it has more base than the current one does, and it's a bit slower than the current one as well.

Great to see all the intros of Nationwide. So many over its history.
Nationwide wasn't really the news. It was current affairs and, often, a bit of light relief.
The BBC Evening News started at 5.45pm and moved to 5.40pm. Long Nationwide promo followed, with regional programmes, then Nationwide itself. I remember its official start time was 6.22 for some time.
It was a bit of a mess, really.
Sixty Minutes tried to remedy that. But it was still the same basic structure.
News, regional news, current affairs programme.
The sets had similar designs and the same music was used.
It began with the Sixty Minutes presenter doing the headlines. After that, a bit of a promo for the main Sixty Minutes current affairs show at 6.20 ish. Then the news was read by the news reader (there was a Sixty Seconds-style set for him/her but a different studio). Most local programme titles were kept (Look North, Points West etc) but the South East was just "South East" and I think Scotland dropped "Reporting Scotland" for Sixty Minutes. It was just Sixty Minutes Scotland.
In those days, News was a different department to Current Affairs and the each had a little empire, which meant that even when they tried to make it a more coherent programme, it was still bitty.

I found the 'South East' titles for the regional South East part of '60 Minutes', the version introduced January 1984. There was another intro for 'South East' that ran October 1983 - December 1983 but I didn't find it as it wasn't really there at all. There was a title sequence for Scotland called '60 Minutes Scotland', but I have not found that yet

0:31 That camera movement is too smooth for 50s... (Propably a 90s "historical" recreation)
Intros for both news and "Nationwide" are included, but weren't both separate programmes?
I understand inclusion of "Sixty Minutes" as it merged evening news bulletin with content of Nationwide (that is regional variations and light-hearted current affairs)
Up to appearing of name "Evening News", generic BBC News titles were used (as shown in video), which after start of One o'clock, Six o'clock and Nine o'clock news are only during the weekend
One BBC News intro (from 1972 is missing). It was on TVARK. Did it appear on an episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus?

Looks far too sharp when compared with some of those immediately following it, plus far too complex to have been produced back in the early 50s.
Even the 1948 version shown here looks too sharp too be authentic.

The Nationwide intro labelled 1975-80 is from 1980. The theme tune was introduced in September 1978. In 1980 it was speeded up somewhat. The Good Word, the Johnny Scott theme introduced in 1972 continued until the 1977/8 season. There were at least four more variations of the titles Between 1975 band 1978. The were at least two versions of the titles before the one depicted at this point. I think the 1978/9 version appears a bit later, labelled 1980.

The Nationwide intro labelled 1970-197? Is from the 1973/4 season. The following one is the original colour version from the 1972/3 season. Another version followed for 1974/5 featuring text looping around four circles (it can be found elsewhere on CZcams). Only super8 film taken direct from a TV screen exists of the two sequences for the 1975/6 and 1976/7 seasons. Both used to end with a map of the British Isles turning around to reveal the mandala logo.

Fascinating stuff, but I believe you may have left one out. I seem to remember some time in the 1990s a logo with a lot of lightning bolts radiating from an aerial along with crashing synth music. Although I may have been hallucinating.

To be honest, the chipper themes and graphics annoy me. The 1981 News, 1984-93 Six O'clock News and everything following that until 1999 were fantastic and secured the gravitas, seriousness and professionalism that the BBC News needed. I am not watching this video from 1999 onwards because I think that the David Lowe themes are crass and infantile. Sorry. George Fenton is God.
