The opening line for me is the kicker.... "These mist covered mountains are a home now for me" That is the thought of a dying soldier who realises he is going to spend the rest of their short lives on the battlefield.. The soldier although mortally wounded is thanking his brothers in arms for not deserting him and reassuring them that they will be home soon. Heart wrenching.
This man makes the guitar CRY !!!!
This song has made me teary eyed ever since it first came out, and still does.
As a vet this song means the world to me as it do to many others. It's commonly used at vets funerals. Tx reacting.
Fools to make War, With our Brothers in Arms. Ours in not to reason why, But to do and Die.
I am a 56year old man and I always get very emotional listening to this song, not so much the lyrics but definitely the tune. 🏴🇬🇧❤👍🔥
The Band, Dire Straits & of course, Mark Knofler himself are British. This song was written as a tribute to the British Soldiers involved in the Falkland Islands Conflict between Britain & Argentina in 1982.
Mark Knopfler's guitar playing always gets me. So happy that I got to see him live 19 years ago
Saw dire sraits 92 Gateshead Stadium UK brilliant.
Telegraph Road (Alchemy live) last song at this concert. Keyboard player, drummer and of course Mark Knofler on guitar are outstanding on this version
I agree completely. Telegraph Road is extremely good, especially that live version.
👍
💯🤘
💯
one of my favorites also
For me, no-one creates emotion with the guitar like Mark. You should try "Telegraph Road" from the Alchemy Live gig - amazing!
The only thing in this song that really touches me deeply every time is the wonderful voice of the Gibson Les Paul. Simply masterfully played by Mark Knopfler.
Live version from the Nelson Mandella birhday party concert. Is simply stunning.
Very nice reaction. This is really a masterpiece. The whole album is great. I recommend songs "Money for nothing" or "Romeo and Juliet" to you.
This song never ceases to give me chills ever since it was released. Not only for its sheer brilliance but one of my cousins was a survivor of one of the British ships that was sunk in the Falklands war. Although the song captures the feeling of another aspect of the war it still touches me deeply!
A song written about the Falklands war and a British soldier called Lieutenant Lawrence who was shot and lost 42% of his brain on Mount Tumbledown by an Argentinian sniper as the Argentinians retreated, however its also about the futility of all wars and we are all brothers in arms doing things we dont really want to do but feel we have to as a good citizen to our country but has little rhyme or reason...😢
Romeo and juliet by them is a great song
If that is about bloke I saw in the documentary recently wish him well and a happy christmas
The song is about Malvinas, right?
@@teushenoconi4976would be if you fought harder 🇬🇧
@@necessaryevil3428 Did you mean if you steal territories?
Tracks like Sultans of Swing and Telegraph Road translate brilliantly to live performances, but Brothers in Arms and Private Investigations are so precisely arranged with so many different nuances, that the studio version is far and away the best way to hear them.
Especially "Private Investigations". The sound engineering is *insane*. Almost a musical sculpture.
I'd go part way with that. With the proviso that the 'studio version' is the one off the Brothers in Arms album, which is identical with this video but has two minutes extra on the end that (for some reason) they cut out of the video.
Sultans of Swing and Tunnel of Love are, in my opinion, better in the live performances. In the case of Brothers in Arms, I agree the studio version is more precisely arranged. The live versions bring their own atmosphere to the song. So I'd rate them 'equal, but different'.
(I actually have six different versions of this song on my MP3 player, and I can listen to all six in a row - they're sufficiently different that they don't get monotonous).
I agree with that comment 100%.
This is what it says under the word 'Masterpiece' in the dictionary. Lol. It's seriously on another level. Once again Knopfler and band created a classic that will stand the test of time. Remarkable. Lovely reaction 😊
I have heard this song hundreds of times and each time I have to prepare myself emotionally to listen to it but it is so good that I must go through tough emotions each listen ... great music and a healthy cleansing.
It always inspires me to count my blessings and remember how lucky I am to live in peace
Beautiful typical from Mark , best moment for me listening to this on old record player with huge brown speakers
In a decade full of iconic music, this is one of the best! ✌️ Peace✌️
Agreed!
One of the true classics. The album is one of the first CDs I ever bought. Still love it.
Great reaction. The live version from the Nelson Mandela Tribute Concert is recognised by fans as the best and certainly the most iconic version of this song.
Thank you so much for your comment and the mention of the Nelson Mandela Tribute Concert 😊
That's the best I've heard among many greats.@@InnaSoloMusic
@@InnaSoloMusicI read that their performance of this at the Nelson Mandela concert was so popular in South Africa that the “powers that be” asked who should get the royalties. When they replied “Amnesty International” the band was prohibited from performing in that country. South Africa’s problem with racial discrimination has improved somewhat since. Luv ya.😊
One of the best that reminds me of my late DAD!! He LOVED this song.....
fukk now i cry......
I have lost many friends and i will always love this song im crying
Dire Straits was my best friend's favorite non Metal band; he was Navajo, and he drank his very last room temp can of Budweiser years ago, and this song especially keeps him with us, so thank you.
Mark Knopfler released a live version from Berlin in 2007 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falklands war. I believe all the proceeds went to Veteran's causes. It's worth a listen along with Mandela's 70th birthday version with Eric Clapton on rythym guitar.
Don't forget the band of the Royal Marines doing this song, especially poignant as the RM were fighting in the Falklands war...
Imagine having Eric on rhythm guitar
The final guitar solos in the live versions of this song are epic. You should try them.
'Romeo And Juliet' from the Alchemy Live performance is epic.
Mark Knopfler is a music god!! All his songs are tear jerkers without even trying!
The best version is the performance at Wembley for Nelson Mandela's celebration. Wonderful.
I could not agree with you more.
There is a live version that is outstanding. Longer instrumental solos and the best organ solo I’ve ever heard. Also Telegraph Road live is another outstanding performance!
Probably the best song in music history
The lyrics are simply stunning along with stunning guitar and vocals
The guitar on its own tells the story
That last "conversation" between the guitar full of sorrow and the warmth of the keyboard is absolutely beautiful.
One of the most powerful and emotional guitar licks of all-time! Kills me every time I listen to it!
Saying goodbye to fellow soldier who is dying for nothing. Proxy this and that.
Chills and tears.
Telegraph Road...live at the Alchemy concert. A true masterpiece.
I seen this song Live on U Tube it was longer. He has one of a kind voice.
Great choice.
I don’t think you’ve done it yet, tell me if I’m wrong, but one of their songs you must check out is Walk of Life. It’s fantastic and catchy.
Beautiful
Agreed,!!
Thank you for a great reaction!! This is a masterpiece and it sounds like the guitar is crying 😪
Such tasteful and understated guitar work ❤
I love your heartfelt reactions. This is such a great song, guitar and vocals as one.
Please have a look at Dire Straits - Telegraph Road (Alchemy Live) Thank you young lady.
I agree completely. Telegraph Road is a must.
Beautiful, just beautiful
glad you understood this beautiful sad song, great reaction
For an epic and beautiful performance of them live, check out "Dire Straits - Private Investigations LIVE (On the Night, 1993) HD". It's one of my favourite performances. Dire Straits are almost always better live than in the studio, but this Brothers In Arms video is one of those exceptions, at least as your first listen!
Excellent! I never noticed that Knopfler's gun becomes a guitar. Brilliant.
Song is so sad and you are so sweet and kind
Definitely this and the live versions of the epic song ❤
perfect combination between song and video. ❤
Walk of life next. You will love it
One of their best.
È sublime..tra i primi dieci brani di tutti i tempi...poesia in musica
React to the LIVE VERSION (ON THE NIGHT) in which he elevates the interpretation to heaven
Beautiful song
and how can you not cry at such beauty ???
I am 46 years old. I have been listening to this album since the day it came out because of my mom and this song just moves me in ways that nothing else can. Oh and she's the "man too strong" in my life.
I’m the same age as Mark (74) back in the day I saw them live in London, Manchester and Glasgow. They are my favourite band of all time. ❤❤❤❤❤. Try “Telegraph Road” or “Tunnel of Love “
Telegraph Road from Alchemy Live.
Tunnel of love, télégraphe road etc. Y'a du lourd encore chez dire Strait
One of the best (war) songs ever written and performed.
Hi great reaction and channel. I absolutely recommend Brothers In Arms Live Dire Straits " On The Night"1993. Every reactor I've seen stated this performance really had an impact on them. Also from the same concert I think you'll really love Calling Elvis and Private Investigations. All the best, Cheers from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸
The live version (On the Night 1993) is fabulous‼ 🎸
As a Dire Straits fan I highly recommend a reaction to the live version of Telegraph Road from the Alchemy Tour. Absolutely brilliant
Dire Straits, U2 & Led zeppelin❤🔥
England is my home. Many have fought to save it. A pretty gentle kind landscape.
There tunes and songs to fire 'a man up' to send him into battle and there are songs to die to. This song tells the story of a man how's fatally wounded on the battle field, that is about to die.
Fine reaction! 👍 Such a great song, this one, with such an important message! You ask which song should you react to, now?... Well, if this song is a sad one, what do you think of reacting to a joyful one? And I got 2 options for you - in both cases, I suggest the official music video - , "Twisted by the pool" and "Walk of life".
-We can see a classic scene with this song, on the TV show "Miami Vice" in the 1980's, (in last scene of the episode: 'Out Where the Buses Don't Run')
This song is sung from the point of view of a dying soldier saying goodbye to his brothers in arms.
A sad soft song with an incredible strong and powerful message. It's a work of pure genius from Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits, one of their very finest. 🙋♂
🔥🎼
My suggestion for next Dire Straits reaction: Your latest trick
Proper quality
So many different worlds, so many different suns, but we have just one world but we live in different ones!
The Live version on "On the night" is a treat.
All you'll ever need in life is Mark knopfler on the 58 👌🏼
Listen to this band in concert recording. You can't regret it. he is a guitar master. He becomes free at the concert...
Super powerful lyrics, but the music has already broken your heart before they even start!
Another great song in the theme of war is "roads to Moscow" by Al Stewart a very powerful song.
Hauntingly Beautiful... Thanks Inna for sharing your reaction. "HEAVY FUEL" (On The Night, 1993) and "MONEY FOR NOTHING" (Live Aid 1985 with Sting)
Thank you so much for the comment and the suggestions 😊
One of my favourite of theirs. Two best bands for me, Pink Floyd and Dire Straights....
Cute by the way.
Telegraph road would be my next pick. It tells the story of the Road in Detroit with the same name from its first creation through all the times that have followed. Both live and studio have their strengths.
This video is brought to you by Mankind: killing each other since Cain killed Abel. This video shows the failure of man trying to bring peace through the tragedies of war. The scene of seeing the rows of WWI blinded soldiers with their eyes bandaged from mustard gas really hits home. It shows that the effects of war don't stop on the battlefields. Only the dead have seen the end of war.
I can't listen often to this song. It hits too hard, too deep, bringing back some memories I'd like to keep buried.
One of the bands greatest song. So much emotion in the guitarplaying by Mark Knopfler. His style is still very unique. Listen to this version of him: Mark Knopfler - Why Worry (An Evening With Mark Knopfler, 2009)
Back in 80's there was a guy in the city of Turku (Finland) who was asking us to join him to fight for
Freedom of Estonia and we agreed but thankfully we didn't have to even though it would have been
our honor as jaegers.(check history)
Beautifully done, most of us came back but some of us never really came home.

Regarder le live de 1993 super 😊😊
One of the best anti-war songs ever written. This video captures the whole ethos and angst of dying away from your home and family. The videos won some well-deserved prestigious awards.
Yes I always believed it to be about the loss of the Welsh guardsmen in thr Falkland war ( you will return to your valley's and your farms )
Hi from California. Check out Emerson Lake and Palmer Trilogy ❤️✌🏼
Private Investigations is an excellent choice.
Live version brothers in arms... Nelson Mandela 70th birthday
Tunnel of Love next.
It is to bring attention to the irony of it all. Rushing, as you say, towards the weapons while simultaneously singing, "We are fools to make war on our brothers in arms." The men fighting the battles have no grievance with one another. They are killing each other over some remote leader's beef. Why in the world would we agree to that?
Telegraph Road. Either the studio or live Alchemy version.
Regarder le live de 1993 encore plus émouvant
We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms
Next song is Telegraph Road - both live and studio version!!
