performance looks identical, except that when gamemode turned off, i see some stuttering

Cool benchmark.Could you do witcher 2 native vs proton dxvk?

Proton will do better then native. The native port is notorious for being a winelib port that pre-dated D9VK/DXVK so its using the opengl WINED3D backend which is much slower.

      Exactly!
Edit: And yes I was thinking about such a video in a while now. Also as a Low-End Project on my Notebook where I first played W2 in my whole life (on Linux) never played it on Windows to be honest :D

Why is your CPU at 2.2 without gamemode? do you run AMD in powersave governor or something? Default should be Schedutil and it should up the clocks easily. Ondemand is another possibility but this will trigger the clocks up way less. I think your governor is busted somehow. Intel uses powersave governor as default. AMD should be schedutil.

I dont know, I have not changed anything. Its the default of that CPU (or maybe openSUSE)

Would be cool if you weren't GPU bound. The CPU clock is way higher!

Actually this is normal that CPUs have a higher core clock as GPUs.
Usually you can determine if a game is CPU or GPU bound if you take a look at the actual utilization, as you can see in this benchmark too.
With out gamemode the CPU clock is lower and also the GPU usage is often not at 100% either, this means that the CPU can not deliver enough data to the GPU to put it under full load.
Or in other words, the GPU is done rendering before the CPU could provide it with new information to render.
On the run with gamemode activated you can see that the CPU is running at ~1 GHz more speed and the GPU is rarely dropping below 99% load since the CPU now offers enough data to the GPU in the right amount of time.
This way it is safe to say that Borderlands 3 is more CPU bound rather than GPU bound.

@@RoboNTux There is a ~40% CPU clock speed jump on your system, thats a solid performance gain from a setting.
I tried it out and my CPU clocks went up a bit, but I'm GPU bound aswell. The 99%-100% is the graphics card handling task outside the game. Yea, maybe gamemode helps mitigate this but its not impressive. A 1% performance gain isn't even half a frame in this instance. The performance gain is coming from the CPU. Interesting option, I'll leave it on.
