    during my high school year our chemistry teacher brings us to field trips and one was on a mountain where there were shells all over the place and they were imbedded among the rocks and soil. we came to believe of noah's flood. i love this study about genesis.

    The Book of Genesis is the first of five books that comprise what is known as the Pentateuch (or Torah). Ever since the time of Julius Wellhausen in the nineteenth century, critical scholars have studied these books together, in order to gain insights into who wrote them, and when and why they were written. Wellhausen was among the first to identify multiple authors for Genesis and for the Pentateuch as a whole.
    Wellhausen’s original Documentary Hypothesis is no longer seen as adequately explaining the history of the Pentateuch, but improvements have been made to his hypothesis, and will continue to be made as long as there is any way found to improve the hypothesis, so that the Documentary Hypothesis remains the only robust explanation available. The consensus of scholars remains that Genesis was principally written by three anonymous sources, now known as the Yahwist, the Elohist and the Priestly Source.
    The Yahwist wrote his contribution in Judah, perhaps as early as 900 BCE. The source’s main interests were the southern kingdom, Judah, and the Aaronid priesthood. He always used ‘YHWH’ as the name for an anthropomorphic God with human characteristics. His God made promises and covenants with his chosen people.
    The Elohist wrote in the northern kingdom of Israel a little later than the Yahwist, but certainly before 722 BCE and mostly used ‘Elohim’ as the name for a more transcendent God who required obedience and was feared by his people. People could never look at the Elohist’s God, so he typically came in dreams or visions, but sometimes in the form of a cloud or a flame.
    The Priestly Source’s grammar still largely reflected Middle Biblical Hebrew, but at times Late Biblical Hebrew can be detected, helping to date the source’s writing to a period of evolution in the language, which is during or shortly after the Babylonian Exile. The Priestly source used the names Elohim and El Shaddai to describe a remote and unmerciful God, had a low level of literary style and an interest in numbers.
    An initial (JE) redactor is believed to have skilfully merged and redacted the J and E material. A final Redactor is believed to have merged and redacted the Priestly material into the earlier combined work. Of course, none of the early manuscripts is now extant.

    This explains how Moses got the information (from the Patriarchs). But at some point God had to directly reveal to Adam how the beginning occurred since there was no one prior to Adam to give Adam the information.

      I assume God would reveal it to him, seeing as God walked with him in the cool of the day

      There's no record that such thing happened between Adam and God. I believe God must have revealed it direct to Moses.

      I'm thinking the same thing. I'm no scholar really, but, logically and rationally, the creation story couldn't have been communicated any other way than through divine revelation of the past.

    I think you should study comparative mythology a little more...The Flood story doesn't come from the Bible but from Babylon (3000 BC)

    • @bibletalktv
      @bibletalktv  Před 5 lety +2

      Most ancient civilizations have “flood” stories that speak of local catastrophes. Their common appearance in history actually support the notion that they describe regionally what took place globally. You might want to verify your Babylonian history which appears around 1700 - 1800 BC and not 3000 BC.
