  • Everything you need to know to view the cherry blossoms in Japan. Cherry blossoms, also known as sakura in Japan, hold a special significance in Japanese culture. They symbolize the ephemeral nature of life, as the blossoms only bloom for a brief period each year. Viewing cherry blossoms, known as hanami, has been a popular pastime in Japan for centuries.
    The beauty of the cherry blossoms is striking, with their delicate pink and white petals contrasting against the bright blue sky. The blossoms also have a sweet fragrance, adding to the sensory experience of viewing them. Many people enjoy picnicking under the cherry trees during hanami, creating a festive atmosphere.
    Additionally, cherry blossom viewing is also tied to traditional Japanese culture and customs. The blooming of the cherry blossoms is said to signal the arrival of spring and a new beginning. It also marks the end of the academic and fiscal year in Japan, and many people take the opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the past year.
    In modern times, hanami has become a popular tourist attraction, with many people from around the world visiting Japan to see the cherry blossoms. The timing of the blooming varies depending on location and weather conditions, but typically takes place in late March to early April. Many parks and temples hold special events and illumination during this time to enhance the viewing experience.

    Hey Chris! We land in Tokyo april 4. We initially wanted to spend our time in Tokyo first and then make our way to the Osaka region next to see the cherry blooms around 4/9. Do you think we’d miss seeing the blossoms in that region? Should we restructure our trip? Thanks!

    Did you see the Cherry Blossoms at Hirosaki Castle park in Hirosaki, Aomori? It's quite amazing. I also saw them by the Kakunodate river in Tohoku too which was like your first video. It's very enchanting too, but Hirosaki park is spectacular. We have a lot of nice spots in Oregon too. The Oregon Capitol has a beautiful cherry blossom walk like Washington DC and Clark College in Vancouver WA has a gorgeous park that blooms later that barely anyone knows about it.

    I was hoping Nagano might be mentioned as I can’t find a ton online about it. We are going April 12-25th and we’re trying to find spots that would make good day trips from Tokyo that might still have blossoms. Nagano was the closest place I could find but would love other recs!!

    FYI, a week of 3/26/23 in Japan is also their spring break. New fiscal/school year starts on week of 4/2/23, so expect the crowd everywhere in Japan during that time!

    Chris do you suggest going early for Plum
    blossoms if you are concerned about crowds? Trying to plan trip for next spring. What were the bloom dates for those in Tokyo and Kyoto?

    • @YellowProductions
      @YellowProductions  Před rokem

      I say just brave the crowds! And I'm not so sure what the plum blossom dates are as they aren't as widely published and tracked as the cherry blossoms ;)

    Hi Chris, I’m arriving in Tokyo on April 4th, staying 5 nights in the city and then visiting Kyoto & Osaka. Looking at the uptated graph on your site we might be a week / 10 days late. Should we still be able to see blossom?

    • @YellowProductions
      @YellowProductions  Před rokem

      You'll probably need to go more in to the mountains (some place colder)

    What’re the quarantine requirements for entering Taiwan from US if there’s any? I will be going to Osaka 2nd week of April. Hopefully, I will see cherry blossom in full bloom. Maybe I will go to Taiwan for a few days before heading to Thailand.

Any recommendations I could go to see them, easy day trip of will they still be around in Tokyo area. Thank you for everything.

      Hi Adam. You'll need to check closer to when you are traveling. But your best bit will be the high elevations like Nagano

      As we all know it’s bloomed early by 10 days. Therefore that means by early April most blossoms gone. I arrive in Tokyo on 2 April. So I will be heading up to Nagano on my second day with my JR pass. Just a day trip.

    Hi Chris, is credit card widely used in Japan? Which bank/ATM in Kyoto is good and able to handle foreign transactions and cards? Thanks!

    • @YellowProductions
      @YellowProductions  Před rokem +2

      Hi Jean... Credit Cards are fairly widely accept in stores and restaurants... but cash is still king in Japan. Like many train station ticket machines only take cash still. Best ATMs are to use the ones in 7-11 stores

      Hi Chris, do they require PIN number when using credit card in Japan? Pin is not required for purchases here in the US unless it’s for cash advances. I hope it’s the same in Japan. Thank you.
