I believe Karl Richter was summoned to the heavenly Musical scene. Imagine if there is heaven and all those great musicians and Composers are there. Most of them were believers. Can you imagine what great works they have composed in the meantime and what Sound Systems they have up there in the heavenly City of New Jerusalm, the City of God, which will come down to earth finally. Revelation chapters 21 and 22 in the Bible.
Mozart must have loved (and studied) this concerto: the beginning of the slow movement (3:51) reminds me of the beginning of the slow movement of the Symphony in G minor K. 550; I hear "traces" of the Magic flute and the last movement recalls the finale of Jupiter-Symphony !!
Perfect.Compliment.
Handel's organ concertos sound very Beethovenian haha it's strange to say it, because Handel lived long before. The last movement is very powerful. Karl Richter was amazing.
There are elements of this music that I feel Phillip Glass may have used for his interpretation and orchestration of the soundtrack for Koyaanisqatsi, 1982. That being said, Handel's use of mechanicals and call and response in this piece is amazing. The motif I hear is that of a pastoral introduction, moving inward, to reveal the layers of the court and palace, slowly evolving into a broader, grandiose vision of European culture and society of the time. The second movement reveals more emotional ties, to what, is not quite clear, but for me, as a listener in 1989-1990, it evoked Autumn, and a sense of "moving on to the next thing" in a life that had just started it's 2nd stage, young adulthood.
@@davyroger3773 Nothing of Händel will fit into romantic, because he didn't lived in romantic, he lived in time of Barock. His music is anyways great to listen.
Totally agree. I listened to all his organ concertos and there are many movements of dark expression, grandeur and thematic development characteristic of romanticism. It also reminds me a lot of Beethoven.
When was this filmed? I haven't heard much classical music myself, but this is a beautiful concerto that I first heard as the theme to a schools nature series from the 1970s and 80s.
What's all the tearing hurry? Handel Festival Chamber Orchestra on Naxos CD are better because they go slower so you have time to hear a note before the next 6 are on top of you
You can do it quick and still much more adept for Handel, like Tachezi and Harnoncourt do it (it's also on youtube). Richter was great in his time, but it is difficult to listen to this today, I think, since the organ is just much too prominent and forceful.
Not bad but shows its age. Especially the strings in the slow movement sound very dated. I first heard this concerto with Herbert Tachezi and Harnoncourt, and Harnoncourt gets such a beauty out of his strings that this recording is no match.
Marvelous performance, except a little thing I heard, the A2 note on the 2nd keyboard of the organ is out of tune, it's easy to listen in so many parts of the piece, especially in 12' 30''. It's very unpleasable because it has ruined the most of the performance. Unfortunately Richter couldn't hide this problem, that reveals itself evidently.
The world's greatest organist of all time and interpreter of Handel. Unequalled.
Bravo. Magnifique.
Beautiful performance by the late Karl Richter .... One of the finest organists of his generation ... pity that he left us all too soon ...

Master, I love your concertos col organo obbligato
Fabuleux !
Karl Richter I respect and admire you, and aspire to be as great as thee
Stunning and stupendous
Lindo!!!
Especially 1:44 and onward, is such a sweet meeting between metal and wood.
Bravïsimo Haendel y el organista Richter.
Super.
The finale to this piece is so victorious.
Very beautiful thank You

Händel was sometimes ahead of his time. Many movements from his Organ Concertos remind me of Beethoven and Romantic composers.

- Der unvergessene Karl Richter -
played in full before the service when I was married
The intensity of some of Handels pieces sounds like he skipped the classical era and went straight to Romantic sometimes.
Yeah, I definitely hear some Beethoven in certain passages, especially with this type of dynamically driven interpretation.
Händel lived in the Century of Barock, same as the great Bach. But other than that you're absolutly right.
Haven't listened to much romantic era stuff, does 7:00 fit that description?
