    The sad back story for Prakoso ("Madder Dog") is that his fighting skills and loyalty were instrumental in helping Uco's dad rise to power. He spent the wealth he earned on a flashy lifestyle in which he met the girl who would become his wife. Young and naive back then, she was attracted to the rich, stylish Prasoko, and they married and had a son. When she realized that Prasoko was professional killer, she became disgusted and left him, taking their son with her. Still unbreakably loyal to Uco's dad, he can't/won't quit being his killer/enforcer, but as penance, he lives as a homeless person and gives his money to his wife and son.
    Cecep Arif Rahman who plays "The Assassin" said in an interview that, besides acting and teaching silat, he is primary school English teacher.

    • @davidci
      @davidci Před 2 lety +47

      Another comment in a video I saw also brought up a good reason why Prakoso is there. He represents Rama in a way if things turned out bad. He was skilled at fighting, literally fighting to earn money for his family, but is now estranged from them because of what he does. Prakoso is stuck with working with Uco and his family, unable to get out, unable to stop fighting, until he had to fight against someone he cannot win against (The Assassin). That's why it was so important Rama successfully took out everyone at the end. It was his only way not to be a Prakoso.

  • @mooty

    What sets Gareth Evans apart from other action directors is his innovative use of the camera. Up until The Raid, there were only 2 commonly used techniques for fight scenes; either a wide angle static camera which shows off the choreography but loses the intensity, or shaky, handheld close-ups which has a more visceral effect but far too confusing (the Bourne effect). Gareth brings the camera right into the action, but focuses on specific punches and kicks, tracking them and staying with them. If someone gets their head smashed into a table, the camera will swing down with them so the viewer doesn't get lost. A brilliant director with an exciting future.

    • @MalcomMcLeod
      @MalcomMcLeod Před 2 lety +27

      Plus he has the cast that's talented enough to watch and follow the action so you don't have to use shaky cam to cover up the less skilled performers.

      I mean I don't think that's true.
      Hong Kong classics had a pretty diversified series of shots to them. Like uh John Wick overall has much more of a fetish in the wide angle than say Jackie's had.
      I do agree that the "Camera-fu" of recent days is a true breath of fresh air for action filmmaking in hollywood.

    • @primary2630
      @primary2630 Před 2 lety +4

      I think these films that have these awesome casts of amazing fighters and choreographers lends a lot compared to Hollywood fighting movies. As you said the wide-angle and close-up are used a lot but older films especially when I think of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong films had a really versatile array of camera shots. Not nearly as complex as Gareth's in these movies but it goes to show how film has evolved from wide set angles to a really dynamic camera.

    • @Thomazbr

    The kitchen fight is the single greatest thing ever put to film. I love the way it starts out purely technique based with them trading off parrying and dodging each other's blows, then eventually they're slamming each other's heads into the metal cabinets, but in the end technique prevailed in the most brutal fashion.

    An undeniable masterpiece of the action industry. The first time I saw the film, I found it a little overworked, but after the third I have no doubts about it. Action, characters, picture, aesthetics, sound, editing. This is very strong work. The fact that the main character kills all three opponents using their own weapons can be like a comment on the topic - whoever lives with a sword will die by the sword. Another interesting detail, as for me, the main character does not know until the end of the film that the bejo killed his brother with a shotgun shot in the head, and it is thanks to the actions of ramah that the bejo dies in exactly the same way. He took revenge without even knowing it) Gareth Evans is a very strong director.

    The very last line, "Cukup" was translated to "I'm done". But if you translate it literally, "Cukup" means "Enough". And yeah, the last line was "No... enough." hits even harder just to hear, after seeing all those violence.

I saw him have frightened expression which he had been hiding throughout the movie.. LOL
