"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done! - Zábava
the cops drive by and think everyone getting loaded with shots of whiskey😂
As an American I would love to stumble upon that gathering in rural Canada. good people just enjoying life!
This project turned into a fine neighborhood event!
Dennis is a natural at co-hosting! He's so great with you, Kevin! ❤
What a great idea to get the Nabor hood kids involved in making the syrup. Teach them young. Awesome idea also.
This is exactly what i imagined Canadians do in their spare time. 😄😄😄 Looks delicious.
Give that young man another shot of maple goodness.
Canadian block party 👍🇨🇦.... greetings from Virginia
Floating down through the maple syrup clouds thanks Kevin.
The most Canadian and awesome block party!! Such a wholesome activity for everyone!! Awesome job Kevin and the crew!!
Nice to see Dennis again. Love the mobile evap. Community bonds! I really like how you're involved in your neighborhood and loved the shelter vids too. Love to Don.
Wow Way to go guys on that wonderful invention you made. And what a fun day to have all the neighborhood included.
Dennis needs his own channel or co host more often, God bless
What a lovely way to bring the neighbourhood together.
Kevin I look forward to watching the annual maple syrup cooking and pancakes can't forget that!
Kevin's Maple Sap Flap Jack Wagon
Awesome video, Kevin. I remember nights similar to that when I was a child - MANY years ago, lol. This is what memories are made of.
I stumbled upon your channel today and I'm very impressed by how much you know, do and teach. Day 1 and already addicted.
Welcome aboard!
Maple Syrup eh. 🍁 it's good to get the kids involved and did well.
I might have syrup once a year if I’m lucky and as far as trees forget about it nothing here in Tucson but I’m glad to see you guys up there going hog wild with that stuff makes for an interesting video🌵😎
What a great way to help bring community together and good training too, if we need to HELP EACH OTHER IN HARD TIMES! This could become a widespread tradition if times got hard..seriously!
That was a fun video.
A neighborhood gathering is the best, whether it's a good kegger or evaporator block party. Kevin Builds...community.
My family listens to the video while I watch and they all love it because you include your family and it's so wholesome. I want pancakes now
Love the community spirit and involvement ❤
Your creativity knows no bounds.
I have worked in a sugar bush for 2 years in Perth, Ontario. The amount of work and time that’s spent on this is insane. I have an amazing amount of respect for you.
I get tired just watching him!
That's a block party in Ontario? Looks like fun. Nice neighbourhood.
This was a great video!! Good job, guys!!! ❤
That's cool and awesome design Kevin. Well done!
That little plancha at the end is a nice touch 🔥
I enjoy all of your videos and if I was to rate them, this one would top the list.
I really enjoyed this episode.
Your videos are always the best! 🥰 I live in Maine and my husband and I are boiling today for the second time this year . With the weird winter we've been having, we weren't sure we'd get any sap this year. I enjoy maple syrup in my coffee every day! 💜
11:17 omg rofl. This may warrant an inquiry to the Guinness World Book… Domestic Mobile Maple Evaporator and Syrup Service Contraption? Community rocks. Well done guys.
Looks pretty cool!
I guess I love watching water boil!!!
Kevin all the kids need to try putting a little peanut butter on their pancakes then add some syrup. Some say that sounds gross and others love it. I grew up eating them that way. So if someone says it sounds gross tell them to at least try them that way and I guarantee they’ll like them. Did anyone else grow up eating it on theirs?
“Rosemary’s baby” carriage 😉 good idea, great job, fun video
cool, the kids will remember this for the rest of their lives. thanks
Kevin - the modern day Charlie Farqueson - I hope comedy never dies! HA HA HA!!!
Good video! Kevin! The build on the Evaporator was wicked man! The wheels and the cooking griddle attachment well done!. Going to a neighbourhood was really cool! Getting the community involved, the kids really seemed to have a good time as well as some of the parents! You definitely can think out of the box man! The guy that was helping you seemed really cool, I believe I saw someone say his name is Dennis.
I take Ozempic and have not lost a pound, even though I’m eating etc the same. Wish I was there in Ontario instead of here in BC. I miss syrup on snow, So good! Love watching your projects being done Kevin.
Great new co-host. Hope we still get to see Don though. Another creative genius for Kevin to play with 🤗😉
Just hanging out drinking maple syrup
Fun times
I dig this. I pretty much want everything on trailer. Keep it mobile. I just got a bbq trailer from a friend. I fixed it up and have it for sale on market. You guys are serious about that maple syrup man. It’s a controlled substance out there😆🐸🍺🔪🔥
Now that's living life and best of all was fun for everyone. ♥
The sugar crystals are likely a nucleation site for the ice freezing. There’s definitely sugar mixed into the ice. I think not throwing it away is the way to go for sure lol
I like the guy drinking the maple syrup with the frothy head on it.
Lol she makes me smile 😊
G'day Emerson, make sure you get down to Australia one day..
You should have a contest next Spring for a couple of neighbourhood events.
now all it needs is a a bell like icecream van's have, and all the kids will come running with buckets of sap ;P
This it's so cool. 😆
i love the maple syrup block party what a great idea for the evaporator you'll need a heat shiel for the tires for sure or the steam punk idea isn't bad either switching it to old steel spokes style wagon wheels
Kevin is it boiling yet Lol. Amazing video. Keep them coming.
Great show thank you for sharing. Full stop 🛑. Have a great day.
Rock crusher update!
I like the way this is bringing the naigborhoud together. I wish we had this sort of thing hear in France
Maybe you should start something.
@@ModernSelfReliance The frenche are just not this way. There moto is evreone for them selfs sorry to say
Chicken and waffles Looks like a rustic metal baby carriage. 😮 omg I should have watched the video before I commented. Duh. Bring jars with you to share the bounty.
What a great idea, you made me get up and make pancakes...
I though when u built it you would take them off before you started. But glad to see you figured it out. I’m from the Muskoka area here in Ontario just found your channel
I like the pancake so much!
This was so neat!!!
The benefits of living in Canada. Making your own maple syrup! I was wondering how the tires would hold up. Question answered by Dennis.
howdy keep doing what you are doing because you are doing and living a real living life
You should look in to how people move their small airplanes around in and out of hangars, where they hook a bracket to the front steer tire, and then to whatever they are pulling with. That way, it turns the wheel the direction it needs to go, and you can disconnect to move it a little by hand for fine tuning
There may be a market for this...lol 😂😅 If it didn't take so long to boil the sap, it could be a feature for neighborhood parties! 😊 Great idea, now tweak it. 😅 Love what you're doing ❤
Awesome family time.
This is so Canadian, nice job guys!
I love it.
At the end I picture a Australian narrating. Oye and here we have thee elusive Canadians in there natural habitat eating a Canadian meal. By the side of a motorway aye such a site ya know mate.
FAMILY!!!!!! 😊😊😊😊
Thanks for the post, very informative , interesting, and fun to watch, making good memory’s for all in that hood
Just wondering did Dennis find out if to much makes one loser in number 2 ??
👍🏼🤟🏼🤙🏼🖖🏼
Rock crusher!!!!
Love the street pancakes. 😂
But curious where you "road" your pancakes 😅
The little boy is cute he reminds me of Spanky. From the Little Rascals.
weld a longer bit for the ball to come off the moving cart farther and you will get more clearance for moving
That maple syrup pan should have a hinged lid, so you don't get dirt, bugs, or rain inside, it takes hours to boil down
I guessing Kevin grew up with the Red Green show
and the fact you turned an old water heater into something useful (and didn't even need duct tape :P)
from the red green show:
"If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. "
I see the tyres burning from the temperature this thing is going to get
Just add baffles in the liquid tank.... reduces weight transfer. Will improve mobility
The kids are going to be bouncing off the walls
Great video kevin👍
@ 25:44 wow does that home in the background think they have enough outside lighting !!! like 10 really
You got your own version of 'Trailer Park Boys'.
I think “suburban” was the word you were looking for. 😁
Wouldn't it b possible to just build heat shields for the tires on the maple evap?
Great vid, looks totally fun makin syrup in the hood. Lol
Was hoping you would make some coffee with the maple water before the boil
Hey Kevin, there is an English guy that bought a woodlot and does videos about it. He just built a portable mini cabin. It flat packs and can be moved on a wheelbarrow. You might be interested. His CZcams name is. TA Outdoors.
I'm familiar with TA
After months of not getting notifications and wondering why Kevin wasn't posting videos looking him up. 3 days later I am finally caught up on videos. And what is really ridiculous CZcams didn't unsubsubscribe me and my notifications are still on CZcams just didn't notify me Kevin must have upset the CZcams gods! 😮
It's a common occurrence on CZcams..
That's a different kind of block party.
Make some maple taffy
I wonder if you have starlink and I also am wondering if we could stay in one of your cabins and or help you build stuff?
@Kevin have you ever thought about making something like mead from maple syrup?
LOL a bunch of Canucks doing shots of maple syrup, heck with pancakes you need to be grilling up some moose burgers and tap a keg of Molson's
The most Canadian thing I've ever seen
You should paint the outside with black fireplace paint. Stop it from rusting.
@ 30:01 electricity must be cheap to run all those lights, but did notice the Corvette yellow earlier so some one in the neighborhood has money / does Canada have even one car company of it's own?
I feel like it needs a Canadian flag because this has to be the most Canadian thing
